CEO's Runaway Mate and Her Cubs

Chapter 564: [Bonus chapter]Falling back in place (1)

Nate had been busy for days, barely seeing his family after business. He couldn't say it out loud, but dealing with the Claytons was turning out more complicated than expected.

He had bought shares of all the major suppliers and could decide to boycott their production at any moment. Yet, he had to be careful not to attract the Government's attention.

They would complain if he started buying companies like crazy and think he was trying to overturn the economy. While he just wanted revenge for his future wife.

And, most of all, he wanted her to be free from her parents' shadows. That couple would barge into their lives as often as they could if there was some use and, no matter how many times Nate had made it clear that it was pointless, they would always try to be associated with him and his company.

He had to get rid of them if he wanted to live a peaceful life. But he had to hide it from Lara because she would suffer if she thought he was angry because of her family.

She had discovered what he was doing, so the major difficulty was to make her believe it wasn't that much of a hassle while it used up a lot of his time.

He had to pretend he was doing business while he was actually checking share prices and buying at the best moment. He had even attended a few shareholder meetings, already.

It wasn't a secret that Nate Woods was buying fabric companies. But, luckily, it made sense for a clothes enterprise to have interested in them.

«I'm so tired,» he sighed, moving his eye away from the monitor.

Secretary Jack left a cup of coffee on his desk and stepped away to finish other business he had been ordered to deal with. The boss was so busy all the time, yet Secretary Jack had never been in charge of so many tasks.

Obviously, something was going on.

«You could bring the pups here, boss. It makes you work better, doesn't it?»

And it also gave Secretary Jack an excuse to take an extra break. He liked playing with the smaller versions of the boss. And they were so calm that it was a pleasure.

The boss had been so lucky with his kids, so Secretary Jack couldn't understand the reason why he would complain about their vitality. Wasn't it good for kids to be lively?

«Do you think so?» Nate asked.

He would feel guilty if he had his kids in the same room while he was plotting revenge. It was the kind of thing one doesn't want their children to learn. And he was hiding it, so... it would be awkward.

«It usually works,» Secretary Jack said. «Also, they usually watch cartoons and eat cookies from the sofa. They're not a bother, boss. You work better when one of the twins is nearby, I can vouch for it!»

«Hmm...» Nate hummed.

Well, Jaden would surely find out what he was doing. And then he would ask questions... That boy was too smart for everyone's good. They were lucky he was still too little to care about most things... And he would tell Lara about anything, so it was too much of a risk to have him around.

As for his other pup...

«You're right, Jack. Bring Scarlet here. She must be bored at kindergarten, either way.»

«On my way!» the secretary said before disappearing behind the door.

If there was anyone who could give Nate good ideas about revenge, it was Scarlet. And even if she told Lara what they were doing, she would simply assume they were playing.

With an evil smile on his lips, Nate returned to working with renovated motivation. When Scarlet barged in, he was analysing the data he had about Clayton Industries.

He was buying the building company's suppliers as well, but he was being more careful there because it made no sense for him to invest in a whole other sector.

«Hello, daddy!» he heard, and his face relaxed.

The little girl strolled to him and, against Secretary Jack's predictions, she wanted to sit on Nate's lap.

«Mom always complains you're home late,» she said first thing. «That you work too much.»

«Always?» Nate said.

Scarlet rolled her eyes as if she didn't like admitting she had overdone it a little. «Not always always. But you're so late that she's unhappy. Let me help you, daddy, so we can go home early today.»

He raised his brows, almost up to his hair, from the surprise. His little girl was being selfless for once. True, it was about Lara, but it still was better than being plainly selfish.

How could he let such a good chance slip? Scarlet had done the hard work of thinking of another being's happiness. He couldn't let it go to waste.

«You're right,» Nate said. «Let's finish this work and go home. Your mommy is right about me being late, but I had bad business days.» Experience more content on empire

«Why bad?» she asked, pointing at a graph on the screen. «Here everything is green.»

«Yeah, that's... That's from another company. They are our enem... Ehm, opponents. If we want to have a good profit, they need to go red.»

She was still a child. He had to be careful with his words. It wouldn't be good if she started seeing the world as a bunch of enemies and allies. Thinking that they needed to destroy someone to have profit wasn't good either, but he could correct that mistake in the future.

«Oh, cool!» Scarlet said. «How do we do that?»

«I thought of buying the suppliers. I'm on a good path with that. But, now?»

«Suppliers, daddy?»

«Those who sell products to us so that we can produce our clothes. Then we sell them and gain profit.»

Scarlet blinked a couple of times, probably confused.

«Now we don't need to buy anymore, daddy. You said you already bought it.»

Nate's lips curled up. Scarlet was his little business genius.

«You're right,» he said. «How could I forget about it?»
