Chapter 559: Girls' parties (3)
Jaden was thinking, one hand on his chin and his eyes fixed somewhere in front of him. Like that, he resembled Nate even more.
Mary Dixon was amazed. She would find him cuter and cuter as she talked with him. Lara was so lucky to have such a son: he would hug her, ask for cuddles, and protect her from everyone, especially his dad. And he would become such a handsome lad while growing up!
Mary hadn't met the girl yet but, if the boy was like that, she couldn't imagine how pretty Scarlet was.
Jaden was facing a dilemma, at that very moment. He had lived his life thinking he could beat his dad and take away his mommy just like that, but Mary had pointed out how Nate would be old and it would be unfair to hurt him.
His certainties had taken a break, and Jaden was rebuilding his system of values right in front of her.
«Do you love your mommy?» she asked, feeling a little guilty for all the havoc she had brought into his life. It looked as if she had made his dreams crumble with a single sentence.
If she had known it before, she wouldn't have said what she had said - even if seeing the whole process was worth the guilt.
«Yes, I do,» Jaden said, simply.
«And your dad?»
«I love him too.»
«Oh,» Mary hummed. «Then, don't you feel bad at beating him, regardless of his age?»
«No, I don't feel bad.»
As they chatted, Lara's mind was crossed by a wild thought. They knew Scarlet was a born Alpha. They knew because the doctor had told them. But what about Jaden?
The doctor had said nothing, except that he couldn't be sure he wasn't. And children weren't supposed to show signs of their nature so early. Her cubs were precocious, true. But so much?
They were supposed to become Alphas or Betas in their teen years. They were five! Experience tales at empire
Jaden couldn't be so early, could he? Yet, his words about beating Nate, and the naturalness with which he would say it were signs she couldn't ignore. He wasn't showing weird powers, but he was acting like an Alpha.
Was he also a born Alpha? She didn't know enough to be sure, but her mother's instinct was confirming her thoughts. It was not much what Jaden said, but the tone. The easy way he would admit it as if there was nothing wrong.
Part of her was relieved that he was still acting cute and accepting her cuddles; it meant he wouldn't push her away as he grew up, even though she wasn't expecting a teenage boy to be too much lovely. However, the most rational part of her being was worried about his nature and his connection to his sister.
Her cubs were both Alphas, weren't they? Did it mean they would fight among themselves for supremacy? Would they start fighting for their territory as they grew up?
Wasn't it time to get them each a single room? Would that delay the problem?
And, most of all, would their territoriality overshadow the love they felt for each other? They would grow apart at some point, it was inevitable, but all she prayed for was that they continued being brother and sister without anything in between.
They were twins, after all. It must have meant something, even for a wolf.
She then remembered that all that territorial talk was dangerous. Mary was finding it cute and interesting, and she didn't seem to think there was anything wrong. However, Lara couldn't take the risk. Not after Luther found out everything thanks to Scarlet's slip of tongue.
«Jaden had taken much from Nate,» she said. «I'm so glad they get along. Isn't that right, Jaden?»
«Yes, mommy!»
Of course, he would agree. If his mommy told him to love his dad, it must have meant Nate wasn't a bad person. And even if he was, his mommy liked Nate! He had no choice but to accept and love him as well.
«You're so lucky,» Mary Dixon repeated. «Not just that you have such a lovely son, but you're also going to marry Nate Woods. With these two handsome men next to you, what else would you need?»
Lara shrugged. She knew she was lucky.
She had two adorable cubs, a loving mate, and a whole pack ready to support her. She had been long enough to know how lonely life could be. She had endured much without anyone's support, so she knew well enough how hard it was. She treasured what she had even more thanks to that.
«And, on top of that, you have a lovely daughter! Isn't she even cuter?» Mary inquired. «I wish I could meet her as well. Can't you bring both the twins next time?»
«I'm not sure,» Lara sighed. Lovely daughter? Sure, Scarlet was lovely. But Mary wasn't ready for her heartless remarks. «She's playing with her daddy, right now.»
«Oh, a daddy's girl and a mommy's boy.»
«That's right,» Jaden said. «Scarlet is dad's, and I am mommy's.»
He even raised his head until his chin pointed at the sky. It was clear they hadn't agreed on that division, that he had decided at that very moment.
His attitude made Mary realise that poor Nate Woods wasn't even their daughter's favourite. He was the second choice for both the twins, wasn't he? If it was any different, Jaden wouldn't be so noisy when saying that.
«I think I'm starting to understand why you want to beat your father,» Mary said when she stopped laughing. «Sharing her with your sister is already a hassle, isn't it? Having a third wheel must be even worse! You don't have it easy, Jaden.»
«I know. But my mommy is happier like this.»
«With three people asking for her attention?»
Jaden nodded. It was a price he had to pay to see his mommy smile and be happy. But it didn't mean he would let Nate have her forever.
