Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Didi!
Eve finally finished tidying everything in her new room. She put all of her clothes inside the big wardrobe, complete with a rotating shoe rack, putting things back and forth to make sure everything was up to her taste, and lastly, hanging up all of the achievements that she treasured deeply.
Of course, that damned painting was nowhere to be seen. She put it inside her luggage and slid it inside the storage, ensuring that the bastard would never see it anymore.
"Alright, all done," Eve checked her watch and raised her brows. She was so absorbed in arranging her new room that she didn't realize she had spent four hours doing it.
It was already two when she checked her watch.
"Well, good thing I told Andrea that I'd be off work today," Eve murmured as she checked her phone, and there was no message coming from her secretary. So, that meant nothing big was happening in the office, and Pierre must've been waiting for her to give up and throw away all her dignity to beg for his pity.
"Hah, as if I'd do that," Eve scoffed. She also had no intention to contact him anymore, because she already blocked his number. Pierre would be the one desperate waiting for her response.
'But don't worry, Pierre. We will meet again, soon,' Eve grinned as she already had a plan. It wouldn't be fun if she just told Alex to shoot that bastard dead. Besides, she wasn't a fan of violence.
"I hate traitors the most, so better make his life miserable. He wants me to surrender? Then I will make him surrender," Eve muttered in a sinister tone. Her evil thoughts were interrupted when her stomach was rumbling. "O... kay, that plan can work later. I'll need my lunch first."
Eve walked out of her room. As she went through the long corridor, she realized she didn't know which one was Alex's room. She wanted to ask him if she could use the kitchen to cook something, but since she couldn't find him anywhere, she decided to just use the kitchen to prepare something for herself.
And just as she expected, even the kitchen matched her aesthetics.
The kitchen was squeaky clean, too clean that Eve suspected Alex had never stepped foot into the kitchen.
She headed towards the large, double-door fridge, and opened it.
She was surprised to see the fridge was stocked with fresh ingredients, from dairy, and various meat selections, down to vegetables and fruits.
"I can make something warm for lunch, maybe a soup?" Eve muttered as she took a few ingredients, and then put it on the countertop. As she was about to check the meat, a dog suddenly barked right next to her feet.
"Woof! Woof!"
"Ah!" Eve took a step back instinctively. She looked down and saw a Shiba Inu looking at her with his curled tail wagging excitedly. "Urf! Urf!"
Eve froze on the spot, not because she was scared of the friendly dog, but because she barely had any interaction with a dog before. She just stood there petrified while listening to the dog barking excitedly at her.
"Damn it, Didi, stop running!"
Eve lifted her gaze and saw Alex, who entered the kitchen from outside. He was wearing a jacket and jogging pants and looked exasperated while holding a dog leash, which she assumed was the Shiba Inu's.
Eve and Alex had eye contact for a few seconds as they were trying to gauge each other's intention, until the dog barked again, and broke the silence.
"You didn't tell me that you have a dog," Eve said first. "You told me back then that you don't like animals in general."
"I still don't, but Didi is special," Alex shrugged as he closed the door and clasped the leash on Didi's collar. "I had him as a puppy when we broke up. He has been part of my life ever since."
Looking at Eve who stood nervously, Alex tried to pull the dog away from her, but Didi didn't budge. He looked even more excited when Eve observed him, "Woof! Woof!"
"Oh? He seems to like you," Alex mentioned.
"I mean, your dog must be well trained. So he must've liked anyone, right?"
"Him? Haha!" Alex snorted sarcastically. "I'd say that Didi is even worse than a stray. He never liked anyone, and would often chase and bite the daily housekeepers. I had to hire a dog trainer to at least teach him not to bite."
"But he's still a handful. He still likes to chase and scare the housekeepers, likes to roll in the dirt, intentionally walks around the carpets and chairs, and likes to pee at random spots to mess with me. Sometimes, I wonder if he is a demon dog spawn that came straight out of hell," Alex was exasperated as he had a long list of complaints about his dog. Despite his complaint, he still kneeled and rubbed Didi's head affectionately. "But, I still like him. He's very loyal, and most importantly—" Alex lifted his head and smiled at Eve. "—He seems to like you. You're the first woman that he doesn't try to chase away. Maybe because you're the most beautiful one. Didi has good eyes, right?"
Eve's cheeks reddened for a moment. She hated how cheesy Alex could be, it reminded her of all the cheesy things he said back then, and how she foolishly fell for it because she was so hopelessly idiotic.
"I don't think a dog can be that smart. You're making things up," Eve refuted. "You should get this dog out of the kitchen, he's full of dirt—"
Squeak!
"Woof!"
Eve and Alex turned their head and saw Didi returning with his favorite squeaky toy and putting it right in front of Eve.
"See? He has good eyes. He knows a beautiful woman when he sees one," Alex chuckled. He pulled the dog away from her using the leash, "Let's go, Didi. This beautiful lady is busy cooking lunch for me."
"F-for you? I never said that!"
"I mean, why not? Do you want me to starve, shrivel, and die?" Alex grinned from ear to ear like a foolish, innocent boy.
"You—ugh! Fine. But I'm making a simple meatball and mushroom soup. You can't protest if you don't like it."
"I always ate anything that you cooked before, no? Even the failed ones still tasted good for me," Alex said. He pulled Didi out of the house and added, "Tell me once the food is ready!"
