Chapter 17: Chapter 17
Isabella Martini - POV
I began reading the paragraph that was below the diagram, and the further I read, I felt a smile form on my face.
There is no cure for silver, but the blood of the gifted could help a person come back. The gifted would possess powers such as healing and creating a shield. Even the true mate of that individual could bring them back, but the risk of slipping into a coma is higher if opted in this way.
I know it is not possible for me to go and look for gifted wolves right now. Because all I have heard is that gifted wolves are a myth. I thought I could opt for the second option, but then a sense of doubt plagued my mind. What if something goes wrong, and Arlo slips into a coma? How would I ever forgive myself?
"Trust the book, Bella. He will come back to us." Rose said, and this made a frown appear on my face.
"How sure are you about that, Rose? You know we are playing with his life in here."
"I know, but I have a feeling that it would work." she insisted, and for once, I trusted her instinct. I closed the book, got up from my place, and walked towards the reception. The old woman was reading a book of her own when she looked up at me.
"Did you find what you were looking for, Luna Bella?" she asked me.
"I don't know. But I know I will get there." I told her in a cryptic tone, and she nodded her head. "I will see you around," I told her and soon walked out of the library. As I made my way to the front door, that was when I realized that it was already dark outside.
How long was I in there? I wondered as I walked towards the hospital.
As I walked in through the double doors, I saw the nurses rushing in and out with medicines and strange machines. It was total chaos in here. "Wait!" I held the hand of one of the nurses, stopping her in place. "What is going on?" I asked her, and a pitiful look adorned her face.
"Alpha Arlo's body is convulsing, and his heartbeat is erratic as well, Luna Bella," she said before she ran away from me. I felt my eyes burn as the tears started flowing down my cheeks.
Please be okay, Arlo. I prayed as I ran down the hallway toward his room.
As I got closer to his room, I saw Sofia standing outside with Jacob by her side. The moment they realized I was there, both of them looked up. "Bella,"
"How is he?" I asked Jacob, interrupting whatever he had to say.
"They are trying their best. But it looks like his body is slowly losing the battle to fight against the silver." Jacob explained while I furiously shook my head.
"Aren't there any medicines or healers or something?" I asked him while he looked at me with his eyes filled with sorrow.
"I have contacted every pack we know, Bella. But none of them have a solution for silver-inflicted wounds. As far as a healer. You know they are just myths." he asserted. I felt this dull pain in my heart as it gradually spread across my body. It was only a fraction of the pain that Arlo must be going through.
A couple of minutes later, the doctor walked out of the room, and I could clearly see that he looked stressed. "Beta Yale, his condition is only getting worse." the doctor informed us as he briefly looked at me.
"How long do we have, doctor?" Jacob asked him as the doctor browsed through his report before he looked at me. I know what he was about to say next would rock my entire world.
"Three hours." with those words, he walked out of there, along with the rest of the nurses. I stood frozen in my spot while his words kept replaying in my mind. I have three hours to see if I can save Arlo. My legs started moving on their own accord as I walked inside the room again.
The shirt that Arlo was previously wearing, was now removed, and a lot of wires were attached to his chest. My eyes moved toward the heart monitor to realize that his heart rate was less compared to the normal numbers.
"Bella, I have something important, I will come back in an hour. Sofia will stay with you." I heard Jacob say, but I shook my head.
"I want to be alone with Arlo for a while," I said in a monotone.
"Okay." I heard Jacob say when the door closed behind me. I made my way over to the chair and took a seat as I took Arlo's hand in mine. There was no one around me right now, and I knew I would have to do it fast.
My eyes wandered around the room when I saw a small knife that was kept inside a fruit basket. I got up and quickly grabbed the knife, and I made my way back to Arlo.
How do I do this?
"Make a cut in your palm and open his mouth so that the blood drips inside," Rose said, and I nodded my head. I moved closer to him and quickly made a deep cut while hissing as the pain shot through my arm.
I opened his mouth and let my blood drip inside. Once I was satisfied, I moved away and took a seat on the chair, waiting to see if there would be any changes. Thirty minutes passed by, and there were absolutely no changes in him.
The silver streaks on his body only continued to increase.
Did I kill him?
"If we did, we would have felt the mate bond break, you idiot," Rose said. I got up from my place and placed my hand on his cheek.
You are strong, Arlo. Please come back to me.
"Look at his face." Rose urged after a while, and I looked closer when I saw the silver streaks slowly fade away. "I think it is working."
