Broly’s Multiversal Foodie Adventure

Chapter 9: Chapter 10: The Elegant Father-in-Law’s Teachings

"Sakura, this is a gift for the people who helped you. Give it back."

Tohsaka Tokiomi could only turn to his daughter and instruct her.

"Uh, okay."

Having just been accepted back by her father, young Sakura was very obedient and tried to return the blue gemstone to Broly.

However, Broly didn't take it. Instead, he frowned slightly, his eyes showing a hint of hostility as he looked at Tohsaka Tokiomi.

This man was preventing him from increasing the girl's happiness level, which meant he was blocking Broly's access to food. In Broly's mind, that was a capital offense.

But since this man was young Sakura's father, killing him would undoubtedly make her sad. Broly hesitated, unsure of what to do.

"This is a gift for you. I want to make you happier."

After some thought, Broly decided to channel his inner wild child from Vampa and spoke firmly to young Sakura.

Young Sakura: "Huh?!"

Tohsaka Tokiomi: "What?!"

Everyone witnessing this scene had exclamation marks practically floating above their heads.

"This is getting interesting."

Gilgamesh commented, clearly amused. He could tell that the boy was speaking the truth.

When a young boy tells a young girl that he wants to make her happier, it's often just childish talk. But now that it was confirmed to be genuine, it became quite intriguing.

Of course, part of the amusement came from Tohsaka Tokiomi's reaction. The usually rigid man's surprised expression provided a delightful contrast.

Gilgamesh found it interesting to see this side of his otherwise stoic servant and wondered what other expressions he might be capable of.

[He's just a child. What he means might not be what I think!]

Tohsaka Tokiomi told himself this internally, forcing a polite smile.

"You shouldn't say such things to a woman so casually, even if she's just a child.

As a man, you should be elegant and maintain a gentlemanly demeanor..."

Tohsaka Tokiomi began imparting his knowledge of elegance and gentlemanly behavior to the child.

"I only want to make my wife happier. I wouldn't say this to just anyone."

Broly listened attentively and then responded.

"Calling a woman your wife without her consent is also very impolite and ungentlemanly."

Tohsaka Tokiomi added.

"But she is my wife."

Broly's words were firm. In his mind, he was thinking about the food the girl had given him yesterday, including the bugs he had devoured in the basement.

"What do you mean?"

Tohsaka Tokiomi didn't understand the boy's attitude until young Sakura tugged at his sleeve and explained, in a roundabout way, that she had promised to be the little boy's wife after he saved her from the bug pit...

Tohsaka Tokiomi fell silent, then nearly lost his composure. He quickly dismissed it as childish play and insisted it didn't count.

"She gave me food, so she has to take responsibility for me!"

Broly's words echoed in his mind, and he blurted them out without hesitation.

The room fell silent.

Broly's statement was too novel, and everyone needed a moment to process it.

"If I gave you food, would I have to take responsibility for you too?"

After a while, Tohsaka Tokiomi asked.

"You can't take responsibility because you can't be my wife!"

Broly answered seriously, his earnest expression making Gilgamesh burst into laughter.

Absurd statements from adults are just that—absurd. But when they come from a child, they can be seen as the product of a vivid imagination.

Gilgamesh loved this kind of imagination.

"Isn't there something called gender reassignment surgery in this era?"

He had seen advertisements for such procedures while watching TV during his idle moments.

"Why don't you, Tokiomi, undergo that surgery, become a woman, and be this child's wife?"

Gilgamesh offered his mischievous suggestion.

"Of course, if you're not satisfied with modern surgical methods, I can grant you a gender-swapping potion from my treasury."

"King of Heroes, you jest."

Tohsaka Tokiomi's eye twitched as he replied to his Servant, reminding himself internally to remain elegant and maintain his gentlemanly demeanor.

"If you truly want Sakura to be your wife, you have a long way to go. At the very least, you must become an exceptional individual."

From their earlier exchange, Tohsaka Tokiomi had realized that the boy's understanding might be flawed.

However, he had no intention of correcting the boy's perception. Instead, he set a condition for his future son-in-law: excellence. And the definition of excellence? As strict as possible.

"Excellence means being above average, capable of achieving what ordinary people cannot..."

If this boy truly grew into an exceptional individual, then him pursuing his youngest daughter as a wife wouldn't be such a bad thing. In fact, Tohsaka Tokiomi might even accept it.

"Excellence?"

Broly frowned, remembering the word not just because of Tohsaka Tokiomi's words, but also because of the Harem System's prompt.

[Becoming an excellent individual does indeed help the host in pursuing wives.]

"How do I become an excellent person?"

Broly asked.

"That's something you'll have to figure out for yourself. But my advice is to always maintain elegance and a gentlemanly demeanor..."

Tohsaka Tokiomi continued to impart his philosophy of elegance, while the Harem System reminded Broly that excellence is subjective and varies from person to person, leaving it up to him to decide.

Broly, however, only wanted to ask: What's Hamlet? Can I eat it?

He had a habit of asking if new terms he encountered were edible.

Usually, he wouldn't receive a response.

[Hamlet is a tragic story and cannot be eaten.]

However, this time, the Crystal Palace responded.

Having gotten an answer, Broly lost interest.

His focus returned to how to make himself an outstanding person.

Although the Crystal Palace left it to him to judge, wasn't there someone right in front of him whom he could consult?

"What is elegance? What is grace?"

Tohsaka Tokiomi hadn't realized how terrifying Broly could be when he was in his curious mode. When Broly asked him this, he even felt a bit of a teacher's pride and shared his own interpretation of elegance and grace with the boy.

However, when Broly's follow-up questions came one after another, turning into an endless stream of "whys," even someone as elegant as Tohsaka Tokiomi found it hard to bear.

"Enough!"

The man shouted somewhat ungracefully, but after realizing his loss of composure, he quickly coughed and regained his previous elegance.

"What I mean is, there are some matters at home, and it's inconvenient to continue hosting the two of you."

Tohsaka Tokiomi found an excuse to politely usher the two out.

"If I have time in the future, I will invite you both to the Tohsaka residence again."

In other words, if there's no invitation, it's best not to come.

As the door closed, Fujimura Taiga felt a bit of sympathy for Tohsaka Tokiomi, who had just driven them away.

Broly's relentless questioning had reminded her of what happened last night in the public bathhouse.

At that time, she had been just like that man, trying to explain things to a curious child who kept asking "why."

The result was a complete defeat, followed by frustration and anger, leading her to end the conversation.

"Can you tell me..."

Broly, still eager for answers, turned to Fujimura Taiga.

"It's noon. Should we go eat?"

Fujimura Taiga quickly changed the subject before the question could be fully asked.

Hearing it was about eating, Broly immediately forgot about the unanswered questions about elegance.

"Yes!"

He obediently replied.

...

"Phew~"

After seeing Broly off, Tohsaka Tokiomi let out a long sigh.

"You've had a hard time."

Gilgamesh expressed sympathy for his unfortunate Master.

If it had been him being questioned like that, he would have definitely lost his temper.

He had originally found Tohsaka Tokiomi boring, but now he felt that the man had some redeeming qualities.

At the very least, as an adult man, his elegance and grace earned Gilgamesh's approval.

Hearing this, Tohsaka Tokiomi was momentarily stunned. He hadn't expected the tyrant-like King of Heroes to say such a thing, and he felt a bit ashamed.

"My grace and elegance still need work. I was just broken by a child's questions. I need more practice."

After Tohsaka Tokiomi sent his daughter back to her room and came out, Kirei Kotomine approached and asked, "Master Tohsaka, do I still need to investigate Miss Sakura's situation?"

"No need. Sakura hasn't been tampered with. She must have taken the opportunity to run away from the Matou household. Although running away from home is a bit mischievous, it did reveal some issues with the Matou family."

Tohsaka Tokiomi narrowed his eyes, walked over, picked up the old-fashioned telephone receiver, and dialed the Matou residence.

"Hello?"

A hoarse voice came from the other end.

"Sakura has returned home."

Tohsaka Tokiomi got straight to the point.

"As expected of the head of the Tohsaka family, to have so easily taken Sakura back from her kidnappers."

Matou Zouken flattered him.

"I didn't take her back. She found her way back on her own, and she told me about her experiences at the Matou residence."

Tohsaka Tokiomi's tone was cold, showing no emotional fluctuation.

"Is that so?"

Matou Zouken responded skeptically. He didn't quite believe Tohsaka Tokiomi's words.

The speed at which Sakura had been recovered made him think this was all a staged act by Tohsaka Tokiomi.

"Head of the Matou family, don't you have any explanation for me?"

Tohsaka Tokiomi asked.

"What do you want me to explain?"

"Explain why my daughter, whom I entrusted to you, was thrown into a pit of worms. Explain when the Matou family's magecraft shifted from water attributes to insects."

Tohsaka Tokiomi's voice grew stern, now clearly showing his intent to hold Matou Zouken accountable.

"The world is changing, and so is the Matou family. The magecraft passed down through the generations has led to the decline of our family's magus bloodline. To ensure our legacy continues, the Matou family must make some changes.

Whether it's altering our family's magecraft attributes or taking in a child with exceptional potential from the Tohsaka family, it's all to ensure the continuation of the Matou family's magecraft. That is my answer.

Does that satisfy you, Head of the Tohsaka family?"

The decline of the Matou family was an objective fact. Changing the family's magecraft attributes to ensure its survival was something Tohsaka Tokiomi could understand, as he would have done the same in their position.

"You shouldn't have kept this from me."

Tohsaka Tokiomi said.

"Head of the Tohsaka family, have you forgotten that our families are not only allies but also competitors in the Holy Grail War? Would you reveal all your cards to a competitor?"

Matou Zouken retorted.

"No."

After a moment of silence, Tohsaka Tokiomi replied.

"So, do you plan to send Sakura back to the Matou family, or do you have other plans?"

Matou Zouken pressed further. The decision now lay with Tohsaka Tokiomi. If the man chose not to return his daughter to the Matou family, Zouken would have to consider finding another child with magus potential to bring back and mold.

An outright confrontation wasn't necessary. Tohsaka Tokiomi's strength as a magus was formidable, and as a Master in the Fourth Holy Grail War, he had summoned an extraordinary Servant. If he were to attack the Matou residence with his Servant, the half-baked Servant summoned by Matou Kariya wouldn't be able to stop them.

"Tap, tap, tap..."

Sitting in his armchair, Tohsaka Tokiomi drummed his fingers on the table. If only the Holy Grail War hadn't started so soon, if it could have been delayed by four or five years, he would have sought an additional magecraft legacy for his younger daughter.

But there was no such possibility, and Tohsaka Tokiomi hadn't anticipated that his younger daughter, like his elder one, would possess exceptional magus potential.

By the time he learned of Sakura's talent, the Holy Grail War was already upon them, and Tohsaka Tokiomi no longer had the capacity to make arrangements for her.

Thus, when he learned that the Matou family needed an heir to continue their magecraft, he felt immensely relieved.

Even now, knowing that the Matou family's magecraft had shifted from water to insects, the Matou family remained the best option for entrusting his younger daughter.

"I will send Sakura back, but I ask that you be gentler when altering her magecraft attributes."

Tohsaka Tokiomi's response left Matou Zouken momentarily stunned.

After hanging up, the old man muttered to himself in an uncertain tone, "Could it be that Sakura's abduction really wasn't his doing?

Well, whether it was or not, it's good that the Tohsaka boy is willing to send his daughter back.

Hmm, I should call Kariya back, to ensure no one else takes our important experimental subject from the Matou residence."
