Blue lock: the true egoist

Chapter 96: A Team of Geniuses (2/2)

[3rd POV]

"Let's get to it. We'll win and clear this final match. I'm fired up now." Nagi let out. His blank face and lazy eyes didn't match his words.

And so, the fated 4vs4 began.

The ball began in Team White's possession.

As per their previous arrangements, Barou and Nagi charged forward, while Chigiri and Zantetsu were the ones moving up the ball.

Team Red wasn't as prepared, they didn't have any dedicated defensive tactics.

Only Jude knew how lethal Barou and Nagi were when they got close to the goal.

As such, he asked for Hiori and Otoya to be the first line of defense. Meanwhile, himself and Yukimiya would be on standby to clean up if anything went wrong.

"They're fast." Otoya praised. The duo successfully moved past him, but he was ready for that.

Simultaneously he used the fact that he was no longer in their field of vision to move around them and rush towards the angry muscular guy.

He didn't know why Jude asked for him to do as such, but he complied nevertheless. So far, following Jude has been the right decision.

For someone who loved living his life by following the flow, there was nothing better than a peaceful river leading straight to the top of the world.

All he had to do was follow Jude.

Unfortunately, Jude's path wasn't such a peaceful and calm road. But rather a thorny path filled with more risks and challenges than any other.

After all, the only way for him to reach his full potential would be by pushing his limits.

Each time going for a more insane goal.

And this time was no different. Otoya was a little late to realize that.

Just as Zantetsu sent the ball to Barou, Otoya was getting ready to support Yukimiya and sneakily steal the ball.

Barou charged forward without a care in the world.

"I learned in the last match... that even if I pass to you jerks... you never pass back to me!!!"

The king was outraged.

He threw away his team's carefully crafted plan and headed for the goal on his own.

"What a bad tempered king."

Yukimiya was quick to react and stood in front of him, blocking his path forward.

This would've been enough to stop anyone, or at least make them reconsider. But this only applied to sane people. Barou didn't fit into that category.

Otoya immediately sensed that something was wrong…

And he was right.

Barou was about to shoot. In that miniature field, his range was far more dominating.

He was the king of this field and he wanted that to be known.

"Isn't it common courtesy to send an assassin on the king whenever he gets too tyrannical." Jude mumbled as he watched the scene from further behind.

In a split second, Otoya reacted on instinct and threw his leg in front of Yukimiya and in the way of the shot.

Unfortunately, Otoya was a little too late in his reaction. Perhaps because he wasn't taking Jude's warning seriously. And so, only the tip of his foot made contact with the incoming shot.

He was unable to completely block the shot, but he was at least able to deviate it from its original course.

The shot was so powerful, that even Otoya's foot was unable to change its course. The ball went up in the air, but still flew towards the goal.

It was easy to predict that it was going to drop around the penalty box of Team Red.

"What does everyone have against my ankle?" Otoya cursed silently after feeling a slight pain coming back to him due to the sheer power in that shot.

Even deviating the shot of the king came with a cost. An unsuccessful assassination always resulted in the death of the assassin.

In this case it was the sharp pain he had to endure.

"You better not get hurt again, don't drag us down!" Yukimiya yelled out as he rushed for the loose ball, but even he was taken aback by the development of this game. Who would've thought that madman could shoot from there? And that even Otoya's foot wasn't able to completely stop the shot.

Hiori was the first to react and was already on his way.

Unfortunately for them, there was someone else who went for the ball and didn't need a fast reaction time to reach the ball first.

What Jude thought was a perfect plan, was about to turn into a chaotic brawl.

The wild cheetah, Chigiri, was already sprinting towards the ball.

In mere seconds he was able to close the distance, even reaching it first. If not for Hiori who was smart enough to move in a straight line towards the goal, rather than the ball, Chigiri would've scored. But now, Hiori stood in his way.

Not willing to let their push drown, Chigiri had to keep the attack flowing.

"Zantetsu!" He yelled out to his teammate as he sent a powerful curved pass.

Half a second later, he regretted his choice.

"Being able to see through people so well... It's a little scary." Otoya spoke to himself as he intercepted Chigiri's pass.

It was exactly as Jude instructed him before the beginning of the match.

The princess is extremely fast, if there's a loose ball anywhere near him, he's the most likely to reach it first.

So all he had to do was make sure his passing options were blocked.

"Quite easy."

"Don't get too cocky, mister ninja." A familiar lazy voice sounded.

He didn't even see him coming, and yet Nagi was already in his domain, he was in the air. Suddenly the feeling of danger coming from him increased by tenfold, his feet carefully placed under the ball which rebounded from Otoya's foot.

Nagi was able to seemingly effortlessly trap the ball.

He then used his creative trap to add to the momentum of the ball and push it to to Otoya's left, before twisting his body to shoot from yet another awkward angle.

Before he got the chance to follow through with his plan, Jude appeared before him.

"Scoring on us won't be that easy."

Jude was waiting for that moment, the right moment to stop Nagi.

If Nagi was stopped, Team White's strength would plummet.

"It's you, Jude." Even mid-air, Nagi had the freedom to speak.

Suddenly, Jude felt a chilling cold sensation running through his back.

…Something was wrong.

"Even though you introduced yourself, I forgot to do the same." The reaper spoke lazily before twisting his body once again, putting one hand down on the ground as he initiated a weirdly smooth breakdance move.

His head almost hit the floor, while his foot was already up in the air, hitting the ball in a bicycle kick and putting all his weight into a shot which went through in between Jude and Otoya.

Even the holographic keeper failed to follow the shot — or maybe it would be more accurate to call it a missile.

"I'm Nagi Seishiro, nice to meet you too"
