Chapter 104: Mini Boss
When the pair approached the wolf Ezekiel was thinking about how they would actually handle this situation but then he saw Leya dash forward.
The demoness grabbed the wolf in a strong grip before jumping away.
The pack could hardly react as they witnessed one of their own get swiped by the large woman and after a sharp cry from it they began to flee.
When he followed the direction she had jumped he saw that she had her boot pressed against the Wolf's body to keep it pinned despite the beast not moving.
He could see blood flowing from it's maw into the ground while he approached and the back of it's neck was severely deformed.
"The beast is ready to kill, do not concern yourself with such things as pride or other nonsense. You must complete these tasks." Discover exclusive tales on m,v l'e|m-p| y r
He wanted to argue but he nodded because she was right.
With a frenzy wing spell cast he began to target the rib cage to kill the wolf as fast as possible by destroying the heart.
The wolf made a gurgling whine as it tried to move but it was likely paralyzed by her damage to it.
After a few casts of the spell with perfect precision he easily slew the beast by shredding the heart with the explosive needles.
He gained a small amount of experience since he only did a small portion of the work but when he thought about it this was certainly a good way for low level players to rise in the game.
Now that the easiest task was done he had to focus on finding a miniboss.
"You should just accept a core from the queen, they should respect her choice rather than try to force you out."
"I want to earn this one, I already killed a miniboss by mistake once when it had been weakened so I want to kill this one without taking advantage of what others did before me."
She sighed with annoyance but nodded.
"Fine. Even men have their pride, I will not disrespect your will."
He frowned at her response.
"You know in most cultures people say men have to much pride right? Actually there was a culture in my world's past that would consider the infernal society very... well they would have hated the idea of women choosing to marry and have children despite being in control."
She laughed at his response and said nothing.
They continued deeper into the forest to find the wolf miniboss she knew of and he a made sure to observe the area closely to learn about it.
He saw how she moved away from certain plants and how certain patches of ground were given a very wide berth so he followed her path while using his mana sight to examine these things.
The plants had mana concentrated in strange places like the stems and flowers while others had mana concentrated in the roots that spread out in a wide area beneath them.
With his sight he could actually identify plants that had a lot of mana in odd places that she did not avoid.
"So what do these plants do? Some of them you avoid completely while others are apparently safe?"
She looked at him before taking a stick and poking a flower that suddenly grew spines that stabbed the stick, each spine dripped purple liquid with a consistency like sap.
"Poison?"
"Yes, the rest are all dangerous in some way and the deeper we go into the woods the more danger you are in so I simply avoid these things and let you follow my path."
"Are any of them used for anything? Are we able to collect any of them?"
She had a look of deep thought over it while walking.
"Yeah I guess there are some? There are collection quests for some of them and I'm pretty sure they get sold to alchemists but people only do these quests if they are experienced with herbs like this."
'Huh so I could probably make some easy money on these if I learn how to collect the herbs correctly? Then again farming the dungeon for loot would probably be better since she drops so much gold quality gear.'
As he was thinking about it Leya finally pulled him over to see something.
When she pointed out what she saw he froze, he saw a pawprint that would easily dwarf the prints of the weird light wolf he fought.
This miniboss was probably twice as large or at least close to it.
She held up hand to her mouth and did a strange signal that involved covering it and he simply nodded.
'It's probably the signal for silence here... dang that's weird.'
She slowly approached what he realized was a clearing and he crouched down to be as silent as possible but silence was not a thing he was great at.
He was able to avoid any loud noises by his steps but he had to move painfully slowly to watch each footfall as she observed the clearing.
Inside of it he saw the wolf laying beside a lake, it was not a large lake but it would probably take an hour to swim across if he had to, the wolf however would probably be able to cross it in minutes as he got to examine the magnificent monster.
It was a giant black wolf with green and red tints in it's fur, that lay there so peacefully.
He assumed the beast would have a fire affinity and a life affinity since the black fur appeared perfectly normal unlike his own obsidian black skin.
The wolf had it's ears occasionally twitching as it listened for danger and Ezekiel took this as a good sign to check for danger with his mana sight as well.
What he saw was shocking and he gripped Leya's arm hard.
"The lake! Something coming!"
She quickly covered his mouth and looked at him with a stern expression as she shook her head in a negative response.
This shocked him and he nodded before pointing at the water and spreading his hands out in a wide way to ok indicate the thing approaching was large.
She looked confused as turned to watch but he could not simply stay there.
He pulled away and flew into the air before she could grab him and although he saw her staring at him with anger he didn't care.
He flew into the clearing and yelled at the wolf.
"RUN!"
He then cast the large spear of mana he had created into the water, which erupted into a geyser as a monstrously large serpent tried to strike the wolf.
He did not know if the wolf understood him but apparently his actions were enough to alert it to danger as the wolf managed to leap away from the fangs just in time.
The serpent stared at him and then the wolf before it rose further out of the water, it was as thick as a young redwood and it roared a challenge as it tried to bite him to swallow him whole.
He evaded it and began to cast many spells while frenzy wing was endlessly raining needles onto this beast, each beat sent the needles out as his wings moved like a snapping whip to keep him aloft and launch the projectiles.
The serpent roared in rage and began to spit out steam which he instantly avoided as he worried about it since he saw no mana.
The thing that surprised him most was the sight of a sudden black blur tackling the serpent.
The wolf was slashing snd biting at the serpent's belly with burning claws which enraged the serpent, it could not target the wolf however as his spells were aimed at its eyes making it hesitant to change targets so easily.
That was when Leya approached and her body was emitting a hazy fog while her form flickered with blue fire within, the closer she got to the water the more he saw an interesting sight.
The water was beginning to freeze over!
This mist she was exuding was freezing the lake which made the serpent unable to flee into the water so it had to exit to the land.
The rapidly spreading ice made a great surface for the wolf to fight as well and while the serpent was forced to flee to the land it was tearing into the body that exited the water.
He also aimed at every wound the wolf made to gain an easy opening for his shadow mana to begin consuming the beast.
The wolf eventually jumped onto the snake's back to bite down and try to do something but he just flew towards the front half to start bombarding its most vulnerable point, the head.
If he could cause severe damage to the head or eyes then he could cripple its ability to fight so this was his goal.
Once the serpent was fully exposed it roared into the sky and began to release steam, steam that shockingly made the wolf yelp and jump away from the serpent's body.
'This may have been a bad idea.'
