Blessed to be the Villain

Chapter 10: A New Reality

A New Reality

Ethan sighed, releasing a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. The contract was sealed. Whatever grudges lay between them were now forcibly buried under divine authority.

At least for now, he was safe.

Relief washed over him—only for searing pain to rip through his chest a moment later.

His body trembled violently, his limbs losing all strength. Before he could suppress it, his knees buckled, and he collapsed onto the cold floor with a groan.

"Agh… Ahhh!"

A tortured scream tore from his throat, unrestrained.

Across from him, Lara,—froze.

Her golden eyes flickered with unreadable emotions as she watched Ethan writhe on the ground. She should have felt satisfaction.

After all, he deserved this.

He had wronged her. This was his punishment.

And yet…

Lara's hands clenched.

She didn't feel triumphant.

She wasn't someone who enjoyed watching others suffer—not truly. And yet, she steeled herself.

He deserved this.

But then, she noticed something strange.

Ethan was struggling—but not like a noble should.

Why isn't he using mana to reinforce his body?

Even when she burned him before, he hadn't activated any kind of protective enchantment or reinforcement. At first, she had assumed he was just an ordinary noble with weak control over magic—or maybe he was already too injured.

But…

He just used mana to form a contract.

Which meant he could use it.

So why wasn't he using it now?

Lara's's brows furrowed slightly. A quiet murmur escaped her lips, barely audible.

"…It's as if he doesn't know how. Or… he forgot."

She pushed the thought aside and walked toward the wooden drawer beside the bed. She didn't want to see him pass out again.

That's why I'm doing this, she told herself. That's the only reason.

She opened the drawer and found several glass bottles filled with green, white, and blue potions.

Ethan, barely conscious, muttered through the haze, "The green one… healing potion…"

Lara grabbed a small green vial and walked back to him. His breathing was ragged, his face pale. But when he reached out for the potion, his hands—shaking and weak—failed him. The glass nearly slipped from his grasp.

Lara clicked her tongue in irritation.

Useless.

Snatching the bottle back, she uncorked it.

Ethan assumed she was going to help him drink it.

But then—

Cold liquid splashed over his burned chest and shoulder.

Agony.

His body arched off the floor as a raw, strangled scream ripped from his throat.

"Aaaaghhh!"

Lara tilted her head, watching with a deceptively innocent smile.

"It'll work faster this way."

Ethan's teeth clenched so hard his jaw ached.

That wasn't a smile.

That was the devil's grin in disguise.

But—damn it all—she was right.

The pain was unbearable, but his wounds were already closing at an accelerated rate.

Meanwhile, Lara eyed the remaining bottles. "What are these two for?"

Still wincing, Ethan answered without thinking, "White one's for nutrition… blue one's for endurance…"

The moment the words left his mouth, he felt her stare.

She wasn't just looking at him. She was staring through him.

His stomach twisted. Why is she mad now?

Then it hit him.

She knew.

She understood exactly why those potions were prepared.

Lara's expression darkened.

Ethan wanted to curse the original Ethan—and his ancestors—to the high heavens.

He was being wrongfully accused and completely misunderstood, but he had no way to explain himself.

An uncomfortable silence stretched between them.

Ethan shifted awkwardly. His body still ached, but a new sensation crept in—hunger.

Timidly, he muttered, "A… can you hand me a white one, please?"

Lara's eyes narrowed.

Her golden irises gleamed coldly as she spoke.

"What do you think?"

The way she said it—sharp, clipped, merciless—made a shiver crawl down his spine.

Looking at her expression—one that screamed murder—Ethan quickly backpedaled.

"…I guess not."

With a weary sigh, he forced himself upright, using the bed for support.

The air felt suffocating.

The atmosphere between them was thick with unspoken tension.

He needed to change the subject.

"You… should wear some clothes."

Lara blinked.

For a moment, she looked genuinely confused. Then realization hit.

Her face burned crimson.

She wasn't wearing anything.

The thin bedsheets barely covered her, and only now did she notice the strange, lingering scent on them.

Her breath hitched.

As the realization sank in, her glare turned murderous.

Ethan, oblivious to his impending doom, reached for the white potion.

Lara's fingers twitched.

This bastard.

His very existence was aggravating.

She watched him tilt the glass bottle back, drinking as if nothing had happened.

He doesn't even look embarrassed.

Her expression darkened. It's his fault I'm in this situation.

Ethan, finally realizing she was still glaring at him, sighed and said, "You should take a shower."

Lara stiffened.

She clenched the bedsheet around her and stood abruptly, grabbing her clothes from the floor. Without another word, she stalked toward the attached bathroom.

As she reached the door, she stopped and turned back, her golden eyes gleaming with mocking amusement.

She smirked. "What, do you want to come in too?"

Ethan almost blurted out, "If you'd have me."

But at the last second, he slapped a hand over his mouth, physically stopping himself.

Lara's smirk widened.

With one last glare, she disappeared into the bathroom, shutting the door with a loud click.

Ethan exhaled deeply.

His emotions were an indescribable mess.

He ran a hand over his chest, feeling the rough scar tissue slowly peeling away as fresh skin grew beneath it.

If this were Earth, it would be called a miracle.

But here? It was simply magic.

…Could he ever go back?

The thought barely had time to settle when—

Trinn…

A soft notification sound echoed in his mind.

Ethan froze.

A glowing blue panel materialized in front of him. Words etched themselves into existence.
