Chapter 8: Unohana Yachiru
“So, have you entered such realm, old man?”
“I did, although it was just a fluke.” Kimura Kazuya said humbly, but he couldn’t hide the smug on his face.
“Is there anyone else besides you who has achieved this realm?” He Muyang deliberately ignored the “amazing, right?” look on Kimura Kazuya’s face.
Kimura Kazuya, who obviously was not happy with He Muyang’s attitude, couldn’t help but glare at him and then said after a brief thought: “Yamamoto Genryūsai, being the strongest Shinigami and Gotei 13’s Captain-Commander, he obviously had achieved this realm. Not to mention his Zankensoki has reached the highest level! Another one that I can say for sure was the Head of the Kuchiki Clan, one of Soul Society’s Four Noble Families.”
“Only those two?” He Muyang was puzzled. He obviously knew Captain-Commander Yamamoto since he was the strongest Shinigami, but he didn’t know who the current Head of Kuchiki Clan was. He Muyang realized that reaching Kendō’s highest realm was not a simple feat, but if they were the only one who managed to do so, then this damned old man was clearly stronger than he thought!
“Well, actually, there’s one more, and she may be even more powerful than the rest. Kimura Kazuya said as if remembering something nostalgic, but followed by a hint of horror.
“Who is it?”
“Unohana Yachiru!” Kimura Kazuya said solemnly, “The most diabolical criminal to ever exist in Soul Society since 1000 years ago, who claim to had mastered all sort of swordsmanship, thus named herself Yachiru. Later she was recruited by Yamamoto Genryūsai as Gotei 13’s 1st Kenpachi.”
“Although I have never challenged her myself, I watched her fight, and I speculated that she should be evenly matched with me, but I don’t know whether that was her full power or not. If she is still alive now, the level of her Kendō must be higher right now, and I should be no match for her.”
“Unohana Yachiru? Is she somehow related with Unohana Retsu since they both had the surname Unohana?” He Muyang wondered. He said verbally: “1000 years ago? Even if she’s alive, she would be an old hag by now. Do you not know for sure whether she’s still alive or not?”
“I don’t know. Some people think she is dead, some say otherwise. After all, she is the infamous Captain of the 11th Division, who bears the name ’Kenpachi,’ the strongest Shinigami. It was said that there’s only one Kenpachi throughout generations, and the current 11th Division Captain is the 7th Kenpachi, so it stands to reason that she should be dead, but I just had a hard time believing someone as strong as her to be killed. Besides, Seireitei has not officially announced her death, so some people think she is not dead yet and simply changed her identity.”
“7th Kenpachi? Who is it? Wait a minute, which timeline is this?” He Muyang was completely baffled. He never asked such a question because he was afraid of hearing bad news. He was afraid that he’d have so little time left before the anime’s main plot began. However, he realized that it was the exact opposite. As he wondered who the 7th Kenpachi was, he remembered that Zaraki Kenpachi was the 11th generation Kenpachi, and it would take quite a while before the main plot started!
“If I remember correctly, the 7th Kenpachi was called Kuruyashiki Kenpachi. Speaking of which, he is also a respected guy, not only by his division but also by other Shinigamis in Gotei 13 because he wasn’t arrogant despite his strength. As for your other question, I don’t know what you are talking about, but I’m pretty sure it is about time for dinner.”
He Muyang speculated that it would be about 200 years before the main plot kickstarted, considering there would be another 3 Kenpachis before Zaraki became one, and the plot began 10 years after Zaraki became the 11th Kenpachi, so He Muyang had a lot of time to train himself. He might even become strong enough to alter the plot even though he wasn’t the main protagonist in this story.
“Brat, what are you thinking? Did you hear what I just said?” Kimura Kazuya’s dissatisfied voice snapped He Muyang back from his thought.
“What? Did you say something?”
Kimura Kazuya then immediately smacked He Muyang on the head.
“That hurts, old man!” He Muyang rubbed seemed grumpy as he rubbed his head.
“Brat, listen to me carefully.” Kimura Kazuya suddenly looked all serious, ignored He Muyang, and said: “If my hunch is right, Soul Society’s 1st Kenpachi, Unohana Yachiru, should not be dead yet. She must be alive somewhere that even Gotei 13 didn’t know in the Soul Society.”
Kimura Kazuya was quite satisfied when he noticed the look on He Muyang’s face and immediately added: “Promise me that you won’t lay a hand on her if you met her by chance. She’s not someone you can stand against in your current state! It’s true that she was later recruited by Yamamoto Genryūsai as one of Gotei 13’s Captain, but it won’t change the fact that she used to be a bloodthirsty criminal!”
“Uh-huh.” He Muyang immediately nodded without hesitation, “That goes without saying, I’m not some psycho who’s so eager to die.”
“That’s good. Although you look honest, I know you’re not a pacifist. I’m really afraid that you will recklessly challenge her one day.”
“No way, old man. I’m as much a pacifist as I’m honest.”
“Is that so?” Kimura Kazuya immediately changed the topic, “Hurry up and cook, will you? It’s about time for dinner.”
“You’re such a slave driver, old man.” He Muyang grumped at Kimura Kazuya, but he stood up and began cooking dinner nonetheless.
- ··········································
“You’re getting better and better at cooking.”
“Of course, I’m good at everything I did and cooking is no different.
“At this rate, I’ll have a hard time letting you go.”
He Muyang froze.
“Hey hey hey, old man, you know it’s hard to say no to that, don’t you?”
“Well, it can’t be helped. You, youngster, have your own path to tread. There’s no way you can stay with this old man forever.”
He Muyang wanted to say he didn’t mind staying with the old man, but he couldn’t say it. He knew that Kimura Kazuya was right. He will be going to Seireitei, Gotei 13, Hueco Mundo, even Human World. In short, he could not stay here and keep Kimura Kazuya company forever.
“There’s no need to be so sad. Besides, this training is pretty hard that I won’t be able to leave anytime soon, right?”
Seeing He Muyang didn’t seem as trobled as earlier, Kimura Kazuya said with a smile: “However, there’s one thing I’m concerned about. Kid, your name is He Muyang, right?”
“We’ve lived together for so long, and you barely remember my name? Just how rude you can get, old man!” He Muyang said dissatisfiedly.
“Well, I mean He is a strange surname.”
Since they were in Japan, the surname He was indeed a bit weird.
“Why don’t you be my grandson and use my surname?”
“Get lost! damned old man, like hell I will!”
“Hahahahaha ~~come on, brat. Do you really have to be that against it? that kind of hurts my feelings, you know.”
“Go to hell!”
