Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Dungeon?! (Start)
(A/N: Hey everyone, I'm finally back! Thanks for your patience. I've also seen a lot of people asking me to add Noelle to the harem. After thinking it over, I've decided to go with it. Since Asta is still head over heels for Sister Lily, this fits perfectly. Anyway, enjoy the chapter!)
Next morning, I woke up early as usual and gave Luna a good morning kiss. She smiled in her sleep, I guess she was still content from yesterday.
After that, I started my morning physical training. Once I was done, I opened a portal and headed to my Grand Magic Zone for magic training. After a while, I reopened the portal and returned to my room.
By then, Luna was awake. Seeing me, she immediately hugged me and pressed a soft kiss to my lips. "Welcome back, Master."
I chuckled. "Luna, I'm sweaty and dirty."
She simply smiled. "I don't care about that, Master."
Shaking my head at her response, I headed into the bathroom to take a shower.
Shaking my head at her response, I walked into the bathroom to take a shower. As I stood under the warm spray, Luna joined me. She slipped out of her clothes, revealing her slender figure, and stepped into the shower.
Without a word, she knelt down in front of me and gave me a quick blowjob. After swallowing my cum, she stood up, and we continued to shower together. We took our time washing each other, our hands moving gently over our bodies. The steam from the hot water filled the room, creating a soft, intimate atmosphere.
Once we were both clean, we stepped out of the shower. Luna had already prepared my clothes beforehand, and she took her time helping me put them on, her hands moving with gentle precision. After I was dressed, she quickly got dressed as well.
With everything set, we left the room together and made our way to the cafeteria for breakfast.
The cafeteria was mostly empty this early in the morning, aside from a few early risers like me. But to my surprise, I spotted Leopold and Erwin already there.
Grabbing my food from the counter, I made my way over to them and sat down. "What a surprise. How come you two are up so early today? I feel like the sun is rising from the west."
Leopold looked up and grinned. "Oh, good morning, Ryo. I decided to start training early from today too. As your senior, I feel like I'm being left behind by you."
Erwin nodded but then frowned. "I get that, but why did you drag me into it?"
Leopold smiled sheepishly. "Because I don't want you getting lazy."
I nodded in understanding, though inwardly I thought, 'Yeah, definitely not because you just wanted company.' Luna, hearing my thoughts, chuckled softly in amusement.
We continued eating while making light conversation. Once we were done, we were about to leave the cafeteria when a senior mage approached us.
"Hey, you guys. The captain is looking for you."
Leopold immediately perked up. "Brother?!"
I glanced at him and said, "The captain might have a new mission for us."
Hearing that, both Leopold and Erwin got visibly excited. I wasn't an exception either. Without wasting any time, we made our way toward Fuegoleon's office.
After knocking, we waited until Fuegoleon gave us permission to enter. Inside, he stood near the window, gazing outside in an unusually relaxed manner. Normally, we'd find him stuck behind his desk, buried in paperwork.
Once we stepped in, he turned to face us. "This mission is slightly different from your last one. A new dungeon was discovered yesterday."
I raised an eyebrow. "Dungeon?"
Leopold looked at me in surprise. "You don't know about dungeons?"
I shook my head, prompting Erwin to explain. "Dungeons are similar to tombs, but not exactly the same. They are the resting places of powerful mages from the past, often containing rare relics or ancient magic that has been lost over time."
I nodded in understanding as Fuegoleon continued. "However, you should never underestimate them. To protect these relics, those mages set up powerful traps and magic defenses. That's why, when a dungeon appears, the Magic Knights are sent to explore and secure the relics before they fall into the wrong hands."
I nodded again, processing the information, but then Fuegoleon's tone grew more serious. "This dungeon is particularly tricky because it's located at the border between the Clover Kingdom and the Diamond Kingdom. Given its position, we expect interference. That's why two other squads will be involved—the Black Bulls and the Golden Dawn."
Leopold's eyes widened. "That serious?"
Fuegoleon nodded. "Your mission is not to explore the dungeon but to act as a backup against the Diamond Kingdom forces. And one more thing—the Wizard King specifically requested for you, Ryo."
I blinked in surprise. "Me?"
Leopold let out a whistle. "When did you get in touch with the Wizard King?"
Hearing this, I smiled and said, "I have no idea."
Leopold frowned in doubt. "Then how did he even know about Ryo?"
Fuegoleon answered calmly, "The Wizard King has a vision far beyond ordinary people. He may have taken notice of Ryo's potential." Then his tone shifted back to business. "But we can think about this later. The other squads may have already departed for the dungeon. I suggest you prepare and head out as soon as possible."
Hearing this, we stood straight and gave a Magic Knight salute. "Yes, Captain!" Then we turned and left the office, our excitement rising for the mission ahead.
As Leopold and Erwin prepared to mount their brooms, I raised a hand to stop them. "No, brooms are too slow. I've got something better." Without another word, I let out a sharp whistle.
Leopold gave me a puzzled look. "What are you—"
Before he could finish, a powerful cry echoed from above. A majestic Phoenix burst through the clouds, its vibrant feathers glistening in the morning light as it descended. The sudden appearance of the mythical beast startled everyone nearby. Magic Knights rushed outside, their hands instinctively reaching for their grimoires, ready to defend the base from what they assumed was an enemy attack. Even Fuegoleon emerged, his gaze sharp and calculating.
Before things could escalate, I stepped forward, raising a hand. "Wait, it's a friend."
The Phoenix landed gracefully beside me, lowering its head and nuzzling against me with a cheerful chirp. Seeing this display, the gathered knights were left stunned. Fuegoleon, having recovered from his initial surprise, approached with a serious expression. "Ryo, explain. How did you come into contact with a mythical beast like a Phoenix?"
I scratched the back of my head casually. "Oh, it's just my summon. It was lonely in its world, so I decided to let it stay here as my pet."
Silence. The knights around us exchanged incredulous looks, all thinking the same thing: 'That's a Phoenix—an ancient, supposedly lost species—and you just took it in as a pet?'
Fuegoleon pinched the bridge of his nose, exhaling deeply. "Ryo… You just gave me even more trouble. But fine, I'll deal with it. I'll even arrange for a proper place for it to stay. For now, focus on your mission."
I nodded, turning to Leopold and Erwin, who were still frozen in shock. "Hey, the dungeon isn't going to wait all day. Come on up."
Snapping out of their daze, they quickly climbed onto the Phoenix's back behind me. With a final, powerful chirp, the Phoenix spread its enormous wings and soared into the sky, carrying us toward the border at incredible speed.
As we soared through the sky, I took the opportunity to explain the Phoenix's origin to Leopold and Erwin, recounting the events of yesterday.
Once I finished, Leopold whistled in amazement. "That's so awesome. You completely bankrupted an entire casino! Man, I really wish I was there. That sounded fun!"
Erwin, however, focused on a different issue. "Indeed… but now comes the next problem—what do we call it? We can't just keep saying 'Phoenix' all the time, right? It needs a name."
Leopold and I exchanged surprised looks before nodding in agreement. It was an important matter, after all.
After a moment of deep thought, Leopold snapped his fingers. "I've got it! Let's call it… Supreme Ultimate God Paragon Ancient Emperor!"
Silence.
Erwin, Luna, and I were stunned into speechlessness. Even the phoenix let out a sharp cry of disbelief.
I squinted at Leopold, and for a brief moment, I could've sworn I saw a shadowy figure behind him—one resembling Minato.
Erwin immediately rejected the idea, shaking his head violently. "Absolutely not! Leopold, you're a terrible namer."
Leopold crossed his arms, offended. "No, I'm not! What do you think, Supreme Ultimate God Paragon Ancient Emperor?" he asked the Phoenix proudly.
The Phoenix let out a clear chirp of disapproval.
But Leopold, oblivious to reality, grinned. "See? He agrees with me!"
Luna, who had returned to her human form, giggled while hugging my arm. "Actually, she disagreed. And she's a girl, not a boy."
Erwin smirked and struck Leopold lightly. "See? Even the Phoenix hated the name. How about 'Talon' instead?"
Leopold scoffed. "No way! Supreme Ultimate God Paragon Ancient Emperor is way better."
As they continued bickering, Luna chuckled, while I fell into deep thought before finally suggesting, "Fiora."
The moment the name left my lips, everyone went silent and turned to me in unison.
The Phoenix was the first to react, letting out a joyful chirp, flapping her wings in approval.
Erwin nodded in appreciation. "Now that's a great name. Simple, elegant, and fitting."
Leopold sighed dramatically. "Fine, fine. I guess 'Fiora' is okay… But I still think Supreme Ultimate God Paragon Ancient Emperor sounds cooler!"
A few more minutes passed, and we finally reached the dungeon's location. The structure came into view—an ancient castle that looked both collapsed and intact at the same time. Its walls were tilted at odd angles, sections of towers lay scattered, yet somehow, the entire thing still held together, exuding a mysterious, almost eerie presence.
Seeing this, I couldn't help but voice my thoughts. "This looks… like a mess."
Leopold and Erwin both nodded in agreement. "True. I was expecting something more majestic, not… whatever this is," Leopold added, looking mildly disappointed.
"Well, majestic or not, let's head down," I said.
Fiora let out a sharp chirp before diving toward the ground. The moment we landed, we hopped off, and she swiftly shrank down, gracefully perching herself on my shoulder.
Leopold blinked in surprise. "Wait—she can change sizes?!"
Erwin let out an amused sigh. "Leopold, it's a mythical bird. Of course, it can shrink."
Ignoring their back-and-forth, I turned toward the dungeon's entrance.
Looking into the seemingly endless dark corridor, I muttered, "Well, hopefully, there are no jump scares."
Leopold smirked. "You mean you're scared?"
I rolled my eyes. "Not really. But if there are any, I wouldn't mind razing this dungeon to the ground."
Leopold imagined the scene for a second before inhaling sharply. "Hey, Ryo… I don't think that's—uh, I don't think we need to go that far."
Erwin quickly nodded in agreement.
I chuckled. "Relax, I'm kidding. So, shall we?"
They both let out a sigh of relief and nodded before we stepped in. As we walked through the corridor, the pitch-black surroundings made it difficult to see anything.
"This is way too dark," I muttered before snapping my fingers, conjuring a small ball of Chaos. A moment later, I altered its properties, transforming it into a brilliant sphere of light.
The sudden burst of illumination bathed the entire passage as bright as daylight.
Leopold grinned. "That's awesome! Finally, I don't have to stumble around in total darkness."
Erwin nodded. "Seriously. Walking blind was starting to get annoying."
With the corridor now properly lit, we picked up our pace. Soon, we reached a massive opening in the wall. Stepping through, we were greeted by a mesmerizing sight.
Since our eyes had already adjusted to the brightness, we could fully take in the sheer absurdity of the scene before us. The room was vast—an ancient ruin within a ruin. But the most astonishing part? The entire space defied the laws of physics. Not that this world cared about physics, to begin with.
The walls looked like they belonged to toppled buildings, yet they were positioned horizontally, as if gravity had decided to take a break. A canal ran through the ruins, but the water didn't flow normally. Instead, it moved in impossible directions—upward, downward, sideways, and even upside-down along the ceiling.
Leopold muttered in disbelief, "What is going on with this place? The mana here is so much denser than outside… It's almost unreal."
Erwin nodded. "Even space has been affected by this dense mana. This is incredible."
I crossed my arms, scanning the room. "Agreed. This place must've belonged to a powerful mage. If that's the case, the relics they left behind must be strong as well."
Leopold clenched his fists. "That's even more of a reason to stop the Diamond Kingdom mages from getting their hands on them."
I nodded. "Then we need to reach the main treasury as soon as possible."
Leopold and Erwin nodded in determination. Without wasting any time, I released my magic sense at full power, scanning the entire dungeon. Within seconds, I picked up on multiple presences. My expression hardened.
"Well, we're a little late. The Diamond Kingdom mages got here before us. There are quite a few of them scattered throughout the dungeon." My eyes narrowed as I focused on a particular presence. "There's even one guy whose magic power is nearly at the threshold of a Magic Knight Captain."
Leopold clicked his tongue. "The Diamond Kingdom is really going all out for this dungeon. Are they that desperate that they'd send someone that strong here?"
I sharpened my focus. "More importantly, it looks like our friends from the Black Bulls are in trouble." I turned to them. "This way."
Without waiting for a response, I rushed toward the location where I sensed Asta and Noelle. It wasn't difficult— a spot with no mana right next to a strong source of mana stood out like a sore thumb, making them easy to pinpoint amidst the dense magical energy of the dungeon.
'Maybe I should work on my magic sense so I can start sensing life energy too…' I thought as I increased my speed, racing towards them.
As I neared them, their situation looked even worse—both Asta and Noelle were now completely entangled by the plant monster. Seeing this, I picked up my pace, closing the distance in an instant.
My grimoire shifted into its katana form, and with a single, fluid motion, I cut through the vines binding them. In one swift move, I caught Noelle in my arms while firing a charged Chaos Bolt at the creature. "Hey, creep! Eat this!" The moment the attack struck, the plant monster let out a distorted screech before disintegrating into pure mana.
Just then, Leopold and Erwin arrived, and Leopold immediately groaned, "Come on, Ryo! You took it out too fast! I wanted to fight it!"
I chuckled, giving him an easygoing shrug. "Alright, alright. Next time, I'll let you take the lead."
Asta picked himself up, brushing off his clothes. "Thanks, Ryo!"
Meanwhile, Noelle, still in my arms, whispered shyly, "Um… Ryo… c-can you put me down?"
I raised a brow, a little surprised by her reaction, but grinned nonetheless. "You got it, princess." I gently set her down, making sure she was steady on her feet. As soon as I let go, she took a step back, avoiding eye contact as a faint blush dusted her cheeks.
Then, without turning, I glanced toward a certain direction and smirked. "How long are you planning to watch us, Yuno?"
At my words, Yuno, along with Mimosa and Klaus, emerged from their vantage point and leaped down to meet us.
Yuno nodded in greeting. "We meet again, Ryo."
I gave a small shrug. "It hasn't even been that long."
Before Yuno could respond, Klaus cut in. "Yuno, our mission is to explore the dungeon and reach the treasure chamber at the bottom. We don't have time to waste."
Asta turned to Yuno with an annoyed look. "Hey, Yuno, what's with this rude four-eyed dude?"
Klaus froze mid-sentence, visibly twitching at the remark. Yuno, completely unbothered, simply replied, "He's my senior."
The next second, Klaus grabbed Asta by the collar, fuming. "Four-eyed?!? You're the rude one! I am a noble! Don't speak as if we're equals!"
Watching their antics, Luna and I exchanged glances before chuckling lightly.
Mimosa turned to Noelle with a warm smile. "Good day, Noelle-san. I haven't seen you since the royal banquet last year."
I raised a brow at that. "Wait, how do you two know each other?"
Noelle hesitated. "Well… somewhat."
Mimosa giggled. "Noelle is my cousin."
I blinked. "Huh? Cousins? Jeez, the royal families are complicated. So, are you cousins from your mother's side or your father's side?"
Mimosa chuckled at my confusion. "Yes, it can be quite complex for others. Noelle is from my mother's side—our mothers are sisters."
I nodded in understanding. "I see."
Then Mimosa looked at Noelle with concern. "I've heard that the Black Bulls are a group of… well, barbaric individuals. Are you faring well?"
Noelle crossed her arms. "Yes. And what about you, Mimosa? Can someone as dense as you survive in the Golden Dawn?"
Mimosa simply smiled. "Yes, everyone is so kind. Because of that, I've been able to use my magic to heal without hesitation." Then, as if remembering something, she leaned in toward Noelle. "If I recall correctly, you weren't able to control your magic, right? How is that working out for you?"
Noelle flinched, momentarily stunned at how Mimosa had unknowingly insulted her with such genuine curiosity. I couldn't help but chuckle at the situation.
Mimosa turned to me. "Why are you laughing, Ryo?"
I waved it off with an amused smile. "Oh, nothing. It's just cute seeing you be completely oblivious to what you just said."
Mimosa froze, her face slowly turning red as realization hit. 'Did he just call me cute?!' was probably what ran through her mind.
Meanwhile, I nudged Leopold and smirked. "Didn't I say I'd introduce you to a few rivals?"
Then I turned to Yuno, who was casually watching Klaus and Asta bicker. "Meet Yuno. And that loud one over there is Asta. They both have the same dream as you."
Yuno glanced at Leopold. "Ryo, who is this?"
I gestured toward him. "My senior. He's pretty strong."
Leopold stepped forward, puffing his chest. "I am Leopold Vermillion, the future head of the Vermillion family and the future Wizard King!"
Both Yuno and Asta paused, momentarily stunned. Then Asta stepped right up to him, pointing dramatically. "I'm the future Wizard King!"
And just like that, the three of them started their own battle of words.
Seeing how it was dragging on, I sighed and said, "Can you three quiet down? Don't you all have missions to complete?"
Klaus, looking relieved that someone had some sense, pushed his glasses up. "We do have a mission. By the way, wasn't there supposed to be a third member from the Black Bulls? Where is he? Don't tell me he fell victim to trap magic… or perhaps he fled home?"
Asta and Noelle stiffened at that, struggling to come up with an answer.
Klaus continued without waiting for a response. "Either way, it's expected from the Black Bulls—a pack of good-for-nothings who abandon their new members. A filthy disgrace to the Magic Knights."
That set Asta off. He stomped forward, pointing an accusatory finger. "Then bring it on, you jerk! The Black Bulls are gonna capture this dungeon before you do! Just you wait, you… you goldarn… no, wait… solden… uhh… you group with the weird masked boss!"
Klaus froze, eyes widening in disbelief. "Weird… mask…?" His expression darkened. "You scum! How dare you mock our sublime Captain Vangeance!" He then shot back, "Your captain is the weird one! What kind of captain walks around like a hunk of muscles in tank tops?!"
Leopold let out a low whistle and turned to me. "Should we interrupt them?"
I smirked. "No. Let them cook."
Everyone—except for Klaus and Asta, who were still going at it—paused and turned to me with puzzled expressions.
"What do you mean 'let them cook'?" Leopold asked, tilting his head.
Mimosa, equally confused, added, "But… aren't they just bickering? How does that have anything to do with cooking?"
I blinked. Then I slowly turned to look at them, only to be met with completely genuine confusion. That's when it hit me.
I facepalmed. 'This backward civilization…'
Luna chuckled in my mind. "Master, they won't understand your modern slang."
'No… this won't do. I have to advance this civilization.'
Of course, that entire monologue happened in my head within a split second. Outside, I sighed and said, "It's just an expression. It means 'let them figure it out on their own'… or something along those lines."
And thus, the first modern slang was introduced to this world.
(A/N: Why am I doing this? Whatever, I don't regret it.)
Finally, after what felt like ages, Klaus and Asta were both out of breath from arguing. Klaus, ever dramatic, pushed up his glasses with a look of sheer determination. "That's it! We'll show you fools the difference between a top-tier Magic Knight squad and a bunch of dregs! Mimosa!"
Mimosa, ever cheerful, smiled. "Okay!" She summoned her grimoire and cast—
[Flower Creation Magic: Magic Flower Guidepost]
Soon, a plant sprouted from the stone floor, quickly growing into a waist-tall flower. The bud bloomed, revealing a glowing, holographic map of the entire ruin.
Mimosa studied it for a moment before nodding. "Alright, I have a rough understanding of the layout."
Hearing this, Klaus nodded and called out, "Yuno!"
Yuno responded with a nod, summoning his grimoire and casting—
[Wind Creation Magic: Celestial Wind Ark]
A massive ark made of swirling wind formed beneath his feet, lifting him, Klaus, and Mimosa into the air. Using Mimosa's plant magic as a guide, they took off into the depths of the dungeon.
Watching them fly away, Asta grinned. "As impressive as always, Yuno!"
Klaus, ever the noble, adjusted his glasses and smirked. "Try your best." With that, they disappeared into another corridor.
Asta turned to Noelle. "Alright, let's go!" Without hesitation, they rushed off in another direction.
As Asta and Noelle rushed off, Leopold crossed his arms. "So… what are we supposed to do?"
I closed my eyes, spreading my magic sense across the dungeon once more. The layout was complex, but the numerous mana signatures moving through it were clear. After a moment, I opened my eyes and smirked.
"Let's follow Asta," I said. "They're about to run into the Diamond Kingdom mages… and their third member has already started fighting them."
Leopold's eyes gleamed with excitement. "Finally, some action!"
Erwin nodded, his expression sharpening. "Then we better move fast."
Without wasting another second, we dashed forward, into the distance to our first battle in this mission.
[To Be Continued...]
(A/N: There, I'll leave you all with a small cliffhanger. Hope you enjoyed this chapter. Also I hope you all are fine with my decision of adding Noelle to the harem. Anyway, see you all in the next chapter.)
