Chapter 185

This place was particularly crowded due to students checking their grades. It was usually bustling, but now, everyone was either moving sluggishly or standing openly to watch. The most famous professor and student at the school were having an argument over a girl, and it was impossible not to draw attention.

Clyde chuckled irritably. “Professor, don’t you consider that Theresa is uncomfortable?”

Then Ilya looked at me and asked, “Are you uncomfortable?”

Ding!

[The Constellation ‘Ilthere or Go Die or Death’ has sponsored 1,000,000 coins.]

[No. Please do more.]

Yes. Extremely.

However, I didn’t respond like that.

Ah

, I’m sorry, Professor. I should have come to see you first.”

I clasped my hands tightly with an extremely awkward expression. “I forgot to consult with you after checking my grades. That’s why you came to find me, right?”

Please say yes.

Ilya smirked at my intense gaze. “Yes.”

Unfortunately, his smile had a tremendous impact, causing everyone to stir.

“Professor Ilya smiled!”

“Oh my gosh… I’ve never seen that before. “

“Wasn’t he cursed to never smile for the rest of his life? Has the curse been lifted?!”

Sounds like cursing came out. I wanted to smack the mouths of those babbling fools.

Ilya didn’t stop there but lightly patted my head. “But now doesn’t seem like the right time. So, later then…”

Tak!

That’s when Clyde sharply struck Ilya’s hand away.

“Don’t touch Theresa.”

The noisy surroundings suddenly froze into silence. Ilya, whose hand was struck away, seemed unfazed, but Clyde, who acted violently, looked more like the insulted party. If I left it alone, it would lead to a big deal.

I grabbed Clyde and said, “I’m sorry, Professor. Excuse us, but we have to go.”

Then I dragged Clyde, who was about to fight, away to a quieter place. As soon as we stopped, I scolded him. “Why did you do that? He’s a professor. It’s not polite to act like that.”

Clyde then lashed out in an irritated tone. “Professor? Is that just a professor to you, looking at you that way, touching you? He treated you like a woman in front of everyone. In front of me!”

I knew I should side with him here. I understood his anger. It seemed justified. But it was hard to accept because the emotional temperament between him and me was still too far apart. We were like chairs with uneven legs. Always tilting to one side, making it impossible for anyone to rest comfortably.

[Is today the day Demon Clyde dies? If the quest fails, I’m going to leave.]

“I’m sorry.”

Clyde’s expression twisted when I apologized. “Why are you apologizing?”

Because today of all days, I shouldn’t upset you.

“I feel like I handled things poorly.”

Clyde ran his hands over his face, then said in a forcefully subdued voice, “Can’t you just hug me at times like this? I’m an idiot who feels better just by holding your hand. Don’t you know that yet?”

I realized subconsciously that this wasn’t just about Demon Clyde. He shared emotions and thoughts with Human Clyde. Thus, he regarded them as his own emotions and thoughts. I thought that was the case now. Because we hadn’t spent enough time together to fully understand each other.

Nevertheless, I hugged him as he wished. Clyde, not satisfied with just that, pulled me tightly into his embrace.

“Today is a good day; I don’t want to ruin it over this.”

It was a strangely awkward statement. Of course, today could be considered a good day. The summer vacation would officially start tomorrow, I was the top student, and we had planned a date. Even though it wasn’t the best weather for a date because of the rain, I liked this weather, so objectively, it indeed was a good day. Yet, his words lingered in my ears.

When I looked up at him, Clyde narrowed his eyes as if he couldn’t bear it and kissed my cheek.

“I get a bit creeped out when you scrutinize me like you’re interrogating me.”

“Does that mean you’re uncomfortable…?”

“No. It’s exciting.”

I retorted with a disgusted expression. “You’re really crazy.”

Clyde, seeing my reaction, burst into laughter and pulled me into his arms.

Feeling better, Clyde now started to hurry me for our date. “Let’s go on our date already. I’ve been waiting for today.”

Somehow, following Clyde’s insistence, we had promised to go on a date on the day the exams ended. I had booked a fancy restaurant and considered watching an opera or a play, but he had other ideas.

“Let’s get married.”

Out of nowhere, marriage. I seriously asked if he was in his right mind.

“We can do it secretly. Like in the dungeon.”

“What’s the point of that?”

“It means something. At least to me.”

Clyde said he would take care of the wedding preparations, so I should just focus on my studies. I didn’t protest further. Exchanging rings under the pretext of marriage would naturally complete the quest. If getting married was his wish, there was no reason not to grant it.

[Yeah~ It’s just a meaningless play anyway~]

We boarded a carriage secretly prepared like lovers fleeing from their families’ opposition. Clyde, ever the gentleman, escorted me into the carriage and clung to me in an utterly unreasonable manner as we headed out of town. When the carriage stopped, our clothes were all wrinkled from the scuffle.

[Is this the day Demon Clyde disappears? Aren’t you preparing to say goodbye…]

I straightened my wrinkled clothes with magic, looking exhausted, and warned Clyde. “Don’t you dare touch me from now on.”

Ugh, no. It’s raining.”

“What does that have to do with anything…!”

Clyde didn’t listen and lifted me into his arms. Then, instead of an umbrella, he extravagantly wasted magic to create a spherical barrier above our heads to block the rain.

“I’ll make sure you never get a single drop of rain on you for the rest of your life, my love.”

“How romantic.”

Even though I was sarcastic, Clyde happily chuckled and approached the building entrance. Our destination was a small temple, a place not featured in the game.

I asked doubtfully, “Is this really a place where we can have a secret wedding ceremony?”

“Yes.”

The temple was richly decorated with incense and flowers, giving off the vibe of a wedding venue, but there was no one in sight.

“There’s not a single priest in the temple?”

“No. It’s not a typical temple but rather a place operated for this specific purpose.”

“This purpose?”

Clyde whispered the purpose in my ear with a mischievous smile. “It’s for the powerful who need a place to secretly meet with their lovers, away from the public eye. Like you and me.”

“…”

“So let’s have fun and then leave, my dear.”

The world had gone mad.

Clyde, grinning, led me to a door and stopped.  “Ta-da.”

As the door opened, a white wedding dress caught my eye.

Ding!

[It’s been a while since we’ve seen Theresa in a wedding dress!!]

“Excuse me.” Suddenly, attendants who had been waiting outside appeared to help me change. “Please come this way, and we’ll begin dressing you, Milady.”

Clyde held my waist from behind and said, “I’ll be waiting here, so come out when you’re changed.”

I started dressing in a daze in a secluded corner behind curtains. The silk dress that exposed my shoulders and chest softly wrapped around me, yet the fact that I was preparing for a wedding didn’t quite feel real. The attendants skillfully fixed my hair and placed a wreath with a veil over my head.

Meanwhile, the quest window remained silent. Unfortunately, it seemed this wasn’t enough to be considered receiving a token of love.

“The bride is ready.”

After changing, the curtains were drawn, and I found myself face to face with Clyde, who had also changed into a tuxedo.
