Birth Of The Crafts-God

Chapter 289: Cashing Out The Stakes

"Humph. Who can say whether you truly made it yourself or not."

This time around, the person who caused a commotion wasn't Orvel, but was Jovä, the head of the Material manufacturing department.

Although the Designs and energy department headed the development of the L2.13o engine, the Material manufacturing and Vehicle manufacturing department played important roles in the project, second only to the former. The original Viper losing to Lucas wasn't just Orvel and his department losing, but also these two departments that were heavily involved in the production. As the department head of one of them, it was only natural for Jovä to feel infuriated by this.

"I figured you'd say that." Lucas smiled before pulling out a small device.

It was the equivalent of a flash drive in this timeline.

"Inside here is the recording of the entire production with me at the helm, the calculations, derivatives and the complete blueprint. You can have it and take a look if you want to."

Silence pervaded the entire area.

The Destroyer had clearly won and by a large margin. Considering both its performance in the race and the engine parameters test, it was better than the L2.13o by at least thirty percent. Such an engine could easily propel any team to the top ten of the Nadire Underground League and compete for a spot for promotion to the first league. Those gathered here were all vestige-smiths in the racing industry and they could all tell this.

Typically, the blueprint, production recording and all other valuable data related to a racing shuttle project were kept confidential. Very few in a team could get access to it, and only department heads might be able to view the complete data. Despite this undeniable fact, Lucas had brought out all the data related to the engine and presented it to the vestige-smiths without any demand whatsoever. They were amazed by his foolish-, uhm, magnanimity.

However, some of the more smart ones read something else from this little detail.

Lucas didn't seem to care about the data of the Destroyer, which meant that to him, it was nothing. There could only be two logical explanations.

The first was that Lucas didn't know the true value of this data, but that was impossible. They had already done some background digging on him and found out that he came from a third tier league team. Hence, it was unlikely that Lucas underestimated the value of the data.

The second and most likely was that Lucas just didn't care. As for why, it was pretty obvious. The Destroyer was most likely not his best work. In fact, this was the possibility they leaned more towards to, after all, the bet had placed constraints on Lucas' creativity and ability. The engine he had to design was to be compatible with the Viper's physical structure and frame, which gave him less 'space' to work with. But if these constraints weren't present, there was a significant likelihood that the engine they would have seen today would be more powerful than the Destroyer.

Reaching this point, those who thought deeply into things froze and felt a shiver in their spines. They began to look at Lucas like some monster.

How was it possible for a human to be this talented and terrifying?

"Mr Lucas, is it? Nice to meet you." A man with a middle-aged appearance, purple-black hair and royal azure blue eyes approached Lucas.

"You are..." Lucas stared confusedly at the man.

Based on his attire, he wasn't a vestige-smith. But considering the fact that he was able to attend this event, it meant that he was closely related to the team.

Seeing this Helnord rushed over to do the introductions.

"Mr Lucas, this is Mr Jermaine. He's a shareholder of the team and the fourth largest one."

Lucas nodded after that and glanced at Mr Jermaine with a nonchalant face.

"Nice to meet you."

The atmosphere became awkward for a second, Helnord began to fret and wonder whether Lucas had offended the man, but Mr Jermaine laughed it off.

"You're an interesting fellow." Mr Jermaine said.

"Well, now that you've won. What are your demands?"

The stakes of the bet were that if Lucas had lost, he'd offer half of his stocks to Orvel. However, if he won, Orvel would have to be more respectful and not go against him. At the same time, Lucas would be able to do whatever he wanted, limited to the fact that it didn't cause harm to the team.

"It's nothing much. I just want to become the official vestige-smith sponsor of the team." Lucas laid his demands.

The Versoa team did not have an official vestige-smith company sponsoring them as Vienna never saw a reason to do so. She was already quite wealthy and could support the entire team herself. Also, the Versoa team had a few side businesses that were doing okay for them. Together with the present stakeholders, there was no solid reason to seek sponsorship.

This created a situation that was good for Lucas. He never forgot that his main goal for getting into drift racing was to become an official sponsor for a team. He would then use his skills to better the team's performance. As the team did well and won tournaments, his store would become renowned as it was the official vestige-smith sponsor.

After Lucas said what he wanted, the atmosphere in the team changed visibly. Some of the vestige-smiths frowned while others had a mysterious look on their faces. Even Helnord couldn't help but glance strangely at Lucas.

Everyone knew that one of the reasons the Versoa team was attractive to these vestige-smiths was because there was no official vestige-smith sponsor. This means that whatever performance the team made in the race would be attributed to their staff. These vestige-smiths occasionally took private modification deals and such from fans and customers because of this.

However, once an official sponsor was introduced, the amount of clients and contracts they would privately gain would reduce, as the team's performance would now be associated with the official sponsor more than it is with the staff.

This was a serious conflict of interest. But even then, it wasn't like they could stop Lucas.

The leading figure of the vestige-smiths had gambled against Lucas and lost. Lucas was also the majority shareholder of the team and his words have a strong sway over Vienna according to some rumours. When all these were factored together, if wasn't impossible for Lucas to have his way. But that didn't mean that there won't be consequences. Chances were that a couple of vestige-smiths would tender in their resignation the following day, if Lucas went with his plans.

Helnord knew this, which was why he wanted to stop Lucas. But there was no justification to do so. Lucas had won the bet fair and square. The other vestige-smiths, under the lead of their department heads, had witnessed the bet. Lucas was also the largest majority shareholder.

Since he couldn't do anything, Helnord turned his gaze towards Mr Jermaine instead.

If there was one person who could stop this, it would be Vienna, but no one believed she would interfere. If there were two, Mr Jermaine would be the second person.
