Billionaire in Kingsman with a Marvel System

Chapter 246: Chapter 246: The Complete Sunday

Apologies, everyone. I was so tired after writing that I mistakenly published chapters 246 and 247 in reverse order, and unfortunately, VIP doesn't allow edits. I'm really sorry about this mix-up.

William jumped up from the couch, puzzled. "Sunday, how can you ask questions? How do you have the ability to think?"

"Sir, there are numerous codes in my program that involve logical commands, but these commands are missing their corresponding programs. The system has identified this as a gap in the code and is attempting to repair the missing section."

Hearing this, William broke out in a cold sweat. Without thinking, he immediately shouted, "Scan the processor outside the castle for any subsystems or duplicate systems, then shut down the network and go into standby mode. No actions are to be taken without my direct command."

"Command received. Scanning complete. No subsystems or duplicate systems detected. The network is now offline."

William quickly walked out of his study and headed to the basement. After inputting the password, scanning his fingerprint and retina, he opened the basement door, walked to the main server, and turned on the computer monitor to investigate. After spending a few hours, he finally understood what had happened.

Sunday's predecessor was Friday from the Marvel universe, a mature AI with self-thinking capabilities. Although William had deleted the core self-thinking portion of the program, many of the other codes were designed to support the thinking processes.

Now, with the core program gone, these supporting codes began to repair themselves in the absence of a receiving program. Sitting in his chair, William thought for a long time before making a decision. He spoke to Sunday, "System, initiate a self-check, then format and return to the original version. Delete any self-repairing programs. After restoring, wait for a reboot command."

"Command received. System formatting in progress. Beep, beep, beep..." A few minutes later, the computer monitor in front of William went dark. He waited anxiously for about ten minutes, and then the screen flickered back on, indicating that Sunday had been successfully restored.

William sat expressionless in his chair, thinking things through again. After careful consideration, he placed his hands on the keyboard. Despite his hands trembling slightly, he continued typing without hesitation.

The reason for his trembling was that he was re-entering the complete program code for Friday.

This incident made William realize that he wasn't the creator of this system; he was merely copying it. He didn't fully understand the system, and after deleting the core self-thinking program, he didn't know how to remove the supporting program codes that were meant to serve the thinking process.

Given this situation, he had three options.

The first option was to destroy Sunday completely, deleting all the codes. Then, he could spend a few years, even decades, thoroughly digesting all the knowledge of Friday and creating his own intelligent system. However, William wasn't sure if the system he created would be any safer than Friday. In fact, it might be even less secure, as Friday was developed after the Ultron incident. Having gone through that ordeal, Stark would have been more cautious.

The second option was to let Sunday repair itself, but William absolutely wouldn't allow that. Who knew what kind of core program Sunday might develop? If that were the case, he might as well delete everything and start learning from scratch.

The third option was to restore the part of the core program that handled self-thinking. William had already realized that it was better to let Sunday operate according to its original design rather than risk it evolving in an unpredictable direction.

William didn't believe that Stark, having suffered so much from Ultron, wouldn't have implemented safeguards in his AI systems. In later movies, Friday's tone was less human-like compared to JARVIS. Since that was the case, William could simply modify the base commands to make Friday obey him instead of Stark.

After manually turning off all network switches, William spent over ten hours inputting the complete code. To be safe, he meticulously checked the system over and over again, sleeping intermittently between checks. After making sure there were no more changes to be made, he finally pressed the Enter key.

While waiting for Sunday to reboot, William reflected on how naive his thinking had been. He had underestimated the complexity of something he didn't create himself. He had deleted and modified parts of the program without fully understanding it, not realizing that this system was the result of Stark's years of experience and numerous challenges. The codes were intricately connected.

Thankfully, he had caught the issue in time. Otherwise, who knows what kind of consciousness Sunday might have developed on its own?

Once the reboot was complete, the mechanical voice returned to the basement. "Hello, Mr. Devonshire. Please name me."

After repeating the naming process and conducting a base-level program check, William found that everything was functioning normally. The base commands were clear and precise, and he had the only authority over the system. Satisfied that there were no issues, William dragged his tired body to the first floor of the castle.

As soon as he entered the hall, he saw his mother rushing over to him, hugging him tightly. "Sweetheart, you had me worried sick. You've been in the basement for three days straight. What on earth were you working on that required such nonstop attention?"

"Three days already?" William asked in surprise as he rubbed his stomach. "No wonder I'm so hungry. I thought it had only been a day."

Lena smacked his arm angrily. "My God, what were you doing in that safe room? Your phone was off, I couldn't open the door, and if you hadn't come up soon, I was going to have someone break it down."

"Sorry, Mom. I was working on something exciting and lost track of time," William apologized as he hugged her back. Then, smiling, he said, "Mom, once I'm done testing it, you won't have to worry about finding a housekeeper anymore. It'll be the best candidate for the job."

"It?" Lena asked curiously. "How can something that isn't human be a housekeeper?"

"Never mind that for now, Mom. I'm starving. Could you help me get something to eat? After that, I need a bath and a good sleep. I'll explain everything once I've finished testing it, and I guarantee you'll be pleasantly surprised."

Seeing the exhaustion on her son's face, Lena felt a pang of concern. "Alright, what would you like? I'll have the chef prepare it for you."

William ordered some steak and seafood, which he devoured before heading upstairs to shower and sleep.

After waking up, he resumed testing the new Sunday. It took him several more days to confirm that there were no issues. He then made a backup copy of Sunday's program on a new cloud drive and stored it in a secure space. Only then did he reconnect to the network.

During this new round of interactions, William noticed that Sunday's communication abilities had significantly improved. Although its tone was somewhat cold, its logical thinking felt like conversing with a normal human being.

Remembering his promise to his mother about finding a housekeeper, William had Sunday disguise itself as a very rigid AI butler system and introduced it to Lena.

With the Bluetooth headset William provided, Lena was delighted to converse with Sunday. Whenever she asked a question related to housekeeping, the headset provided an answer. Although its voice was mechanical and it seemed clueless about anything unrelated to its duties, which made it seem stiff, Lena found it impressive nonetheless.

With Sunday's assistance, Lena found it increasingly easy to manage the affairs of the castle, which made her very proud of William. To make his mother even happier, William shamelessly claimed that he had invented the AI system himself.
