Chapter 27: Chapter 27
Ruby's heart pounds as she faces Vergil in the Demon World, their final clash drawing near. Gripping the handle of Cerberus, she channels her mana, feeling its power coursing through her. Across the battlefield, Vergil brandishes the legendary Yamato, his piercing blue eyes locked onto Ruby.
With a thunderous clash, their blades meet, the force of the impact sending shockwaves rippling through the air. Ruby deftly twirls Cerberus, unleashing a flurry of lightning-fast strikes, but Vergil's defense is impenetrable. He counters with lightning-quick slashes from Yamato, forcing Ruby to parry and dodge.
Seeing an opening, Ruby transforms Cerberus into Agni and Rudra, the twin demon swords. Their fiery and wind-based attacks push Vergil back, but he quickly regains his footing. Switching to Beowulf, he delivers earth-shattering punches, the shockwaves nearly knocking Ruby off balance.
Retreating, Ruby summons Nevan, the guitar-shaped weapon. She strums a haunting melody, summoning spectral bats that swarm around Vergil. Caught off guard, he struggles to fend them off, allowing Ruby to land a series of electrified strikes.
Vergil's eyes narrow, and he unleashes his Devil Trigger, his body transforming into a demonic, winged figure. Ruby matches his transformation, her own demonic aura flaring to life. They clash again, the force of their blows cracking the very ground beneath them.
Ruby switches between her weapons, adapting her tactics to counter Vergil's relentless assault. Sparks fly as their blades collide, their movements blurring with superhuman speed.
Ruby grits her teeth, her grip tightening around the handle of Cerberus as she faces off against Vergil. "Your obsession with power has gone too far, Vergil. This has to end!"
Vergil narrows his eyes, the legendary Yamato gleaming in his hand. "Power is the only thing that matters. I will stop at nothing to achieve it." He lunges forward, his blade clashing against Ruby's with a resounding crack.
Ruby deftly parries his strikes, her footwork light and agile. She counterattacks, Cerberus a blur of motion as she lands a solid blow against Vergil's side.
Ruby watches as Vergil staggers, dropping to one knee. The impact seems to have sent a jolt through his body.
"Am I...being defeated?" Vergil mutters, his usual confidence wavering.
Ruby gripped Cerberus tightly, her knuckles turning white. "What's wrong? Is that all you've got?" She scoffed, a hint of mockery in her voice. "Come on, get up. I know you can do better than that."
Vergil's eyes narrowed as he pushed himself off the ground, his movements stiff. "The portal to the Human World is closing, Dante..." He paused, his gaze fixed on Ruby. "...because the amulets have been separated."
Ruby felt a surge of determination coursing through her veins. "Then let's finish this, Vergil." Her expression hardened, her jaw set with resolve. "I have to stop you, even if that means I have to..." She trailed off, the implication hanging in the air.
Ruby grips the Rebellion tightly as Vergil rushes towards her. With a swift side slash, the blade connects, and she hears the distinct sound of a chain breaking. Vergil's amulet, the symbol of their father's legacy, clatters to the ground.
Vergil, weakened, grabs his amulet. "No one can have this, Dante. It's mine, it belongs to a son of Sparda!" Vergil shouts, his voice laced with desperation.
Slowly, Vergil begins to retreat, his steps unsteady as he backs towards the edge of the waterfall. Ruby watches, her heart pounding, knowing she has to stop him.
"Vergil, wait!" Ruby pleads, taking a step forward. But Vergil raises the Yamato, the blade gleaming in the dim light.
"Leave me and go, if you don't want to be trapped in the Demon World. I'm staying, this place was our father's home," Vergil says, his voice firm.
Ruby's eyes widen as she realizes Vergil's intention. "Vergil, don't—"
But it's too late. Vergil takes one final step, and Ruby watches in horror as he plummets over the edge, disappearing into the darkness below.
Ruby watches as the cutscene continues, showing Dante's escape from the Demon World with the sword of Sparda. He meets up with Lady, and the simulation finally ends.
Ruby turns her attention to her chat, ready to engage with her viewers. "Well, that was one intense fight with Vergil, huh, chat? I'm just glad Dante made it out of there in one piece." She pauses, a hint of concern in her voice. "I wonder what's next for him, though. That Demon World doesn't seem like a very nice place to hang around in."
Ruby leans back in her chair, a small smile playing on her lips. "Anyway, what did you all think of that battle? I know I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Vergil really is a tough opponent, but Dante just has that certain something, you know?" She winks at the camera, her golden eyes sparkling with amusement.
"Alright, chat, let's hear it. What was your favorite part? And don't worry, I promise I won't make you go through that whole thing again. Unless, you know, you really want to." Ruby laughs, her lively personality shining through as she interacts with her audience.
Ruby nods enthusiastically as her chat raves about the Devil May Cry simulation. "I know, right? The combat was so smooth and satisfying. I felt like a total badass taking down those demons." She grins, her golden eyes sparkling with excitement.
"And the story, oh man, the story was incredible! The relationship between Dante and Vergil was so complex and emotional. I really felt for them, you know?" Ruby leans forward, gesturing animatedly. "And the way the game just kept throwing new challenges at me, it really kept me on my toes. I had to keep adapting and learning new skills."
Suddenly, Ruby pauses, her brow furrowing as she reads a comment from the chat. "Wait, what? I can play as Lady or Vergil?" She quickly navigates to the post-content section, her eyes widening. "No way, you guys are serious? I get to experience the story from their perspectives too?"
Ruby lets out a breathless laugh, her fingers flying across the keyboard as she types a response. "Oh, this is going to be good. I can't wait to dive back in and see the game from a whole new angle." She grins, her excitement palpable. "Alright, chat, let's do this! Who should I play as first, Lady or Vergil? I'm feeling a little bit of both, to be honest."
Ruby waits eagerly for her chat's response, her mind racing with the possibilities of exploring the Devil May Cry world through different lenses. This was shaping up to be an experience she wouldn't soon forget.
