Chapter 128: [127] When People Want to Do Something
Chapter 127: When People Want to Do Something
Yuta had no idea that his manga had caused such a significant headache for the editors, nor did he realize that he had unintentionally offended a beautiful girl.
After skipping a day of classes, Yuta returned to the university with Belldandy once again.
There were no classes with Kaoruko today, but after arriving at school, Yuta gave her a call to check in. He learned that her back injury still hadn't healed, meaning she wouldn't be able to teach this week.
Not being able to teach wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Considering Kaoruko's personality, Yuta felt that if she encountered him and Belldandy again, it would only make her injuries worse.
Belldandy cheerfully walked alongside Yuta down the campus walkway, her smile bright as she observed the people and buildings around them.
Her stunning appearance quickly became the center of attention on campus.
Yuta, aware this was inevitable, could only hope that those with idle time would focus on their studies instead of gawking.
"Yuta, what a coincidence to run into you here! How lucky, it must be fate," came a voice.
Yuta looked, somewhat speechless, at another striking figure—the well-endowed college student, Oda Raika, waiting for him.
"Good morning, Raika-nee," Yuta greeted her briefly before walking ahead without stopping.
Raika followed, now flanking Yuta on the opposite side of Belldandy. She greeted Belldandy, though her tone seemed a little dazed. "Good morning, Belldandy."
"Good morning, Raika-nee," Belldandy replied with the same honorific Yuta used. Not entirely sure how to address people here, she had simply followed Yuta's lead.
Raika knew Belldandy to be an exceptionally pure and straightforward person, with a slightly naive personality.
Not that Raika felt she was in any position to call Belldandy naive, given her own quirks.
"Yuta, are you aware of Aunt's injury?" Raika asked, referring to Kaoruko. She suspected Yuta might somehow be involved, though she didn't believe Yuta or Belldandy were the type to resort to violence.
Yuta nodded. "I know. She said she needs to rest for a week before she can move around again."
"Oh," Raika replied nonchalantly, not particularly concerned about Kaoruko's situation. Her attention shifted quickly back to Belldandy. "Do you have the same classes as Yuta, Belldandy?"
"Yes!" Belldandy answered enthusiastically. Glancing at Raika, she noticed her aura was a serene white.
Few people had such calm emotions—most people's colors would shift with their thoughts and feelings during conversation.
Raika, unsurprised by this observation, waved her hand casually and headed off in another direction. "I'm off to class. See you later."
"Goodbye!" Belldandy bid her farewell cheerfully.
Yuta, however, remained puzzled by Raika's behavior. She often did strange things, seemingly just to observe people's reactions.
"It seems the compulsion effect doesn't work on Raika. That's a relief," Yuta muttered to himself. He had been worried about the compulsion effect, afraid it might harm others like it had Kaoruko.
"That's impossible. Raika-nee is a really good person," Belldandy said with a smile, sharing her positive impression of Oda Raika.
Yuta didn't share the same sentiment.
Whether someone was a good person or not had no bearing on the activation of the compulsion effect.
As the two continued walking, another popular beauty appeared ahead of them.
It was unmistakable—besides Kaoruko, who was currently bedridden, and Oda Raika, who had already left, there was only one other person who could fit the bill.
Mishima Sayoko, a woman of unyielding determination.
Even after nearly succumbing to the compulsion effect, even after being attacked by it, she remained fearless, boldly facing it head-on in her own way.
"Yuta! What a coincidence to run into you here," Sayoko greeted him with a smile as she approached, completely ignoring Belldandy.
Yuta didn't particularly want to see Sayoko, while Belldandy looked at her with concern, ready to step in at any moment to help mitigate the compulsion effect.
Yuta was sure Sayoko had been waiting for him on purpose. "Yeah, what a coincidence. Sayoko, don't you have class soon?"
"Class? Of course!" Sayoko smiled brightly at Yuta. "I've already applied for a department transfer. And what a coincidence—I found out my new schedule matches yours perfectly!"
Coincidence, my foot!
Yuta thought, forcing an awkward yet polite smile as he looked at Sayoko.
This woman was practically asking for trouble.
"Transferring departments is such a big decision. Did your parents just go along with it so easily?" Yuta hoped this was just one of Sayoko's jokes and that her parents had enough sense to reject such a reckless request.
Sayoko smiled faintly, brushing her long hair behind her shoulder. "Of course. No matter what I study, I'll eventually work at the Mishima Group after graduation. During my internship at the company, I can pick up whatever I need."
Yuta had nothing to say to the privileges of the wealthy. "Must be nice. Well, I should get to class now."
At this point, Belldandy smiled warmly and greeted Sayoko, "Good morning, Sayoko."
"Hmph!" Sayoko's only response to Belldandy's greeting was a dismissive snort.
To her, Belldandy was an enemy, and there was no way she was going to show her any kindness.
After her brief and cold response, Sayoko moved to Yuta's side, walking shoulder-to-shoulder with him.
Belldandy's mood dropped, and she followed behind the two, looking a bit dejected.
If it were just this, it wouldn't have been much of a problem. As long as she didn't actively try to separate the two, merely being a "third wheel" wouldn't trigger the compulsion effect.
However, Sayoko was not the kind of girl content with simply being a third wheel. To her, Belldandy was the obstacle preventing her from getting closer to Yuta.
"Hey, aren't you an international student? Don't you need to go to class? Why are you following us?" Sayoko turned and glared at Belldandy with a sharp tone. "I have something to discuss with Yuta. Can't you give us some space?"
Belldandy, startled by the harsh words, slowed her steps timidly, her expression hurt as she glanced at Yuta and Sayoko ahead.
Yuta wasn't about to let this slide. If Belldandy actually left, Sayoko would be in deep trouble with the compulsion effect.
"Belldandy, class is about to start. Keep up!" he called back firmly.
Hearing Yuta's words, Belldandy immediately brightened up again. "Okay! I'm coming!"
Sayoko shot a venomous glare at Belldandy.
This woman… I'll make sure she embarrasses herself today! she thought, determined to find a way to humiliate her rival.
