Chapter 8: Chapter 3 Xue Henqing (Seeking Investment and Followers)
The annual initial beast allocation is the top event at Green Eagle Senior High School.
Once the initial beast allocation is completed, and the new high school seniors are certified as official Beast Tamers, Green Eagle Senior High School can announce the certification rate of the current batch of students recognized by the Beast Taming Association, simply known as the certification rate.
For a high school, the certification rate is like the pre-catastrophe college entrance examination rate—an important indicator of a high school’s teaching strength.
For every high school senior participating in the beast allocation, the initial beast allocation means that all the knowledge about being a Beast Tamer they have acquired since childhood finally has a practical use. After contracting their first beast, they can register with the Beast Taming Association as official Beast Tamers and begin their career.
Thinking of this, these freshly turned eighteen-year-olds, who had followed their teacher to the special breeding area for selecting initial beasts, could barely contain their excitement.
“Clap, clap!”
By clapping his hands, Zhao Qingsong got the students to focus their attention on what he was about to say next. Looking at the familiar faces he had known for three years, his usually stern face gained a hint of a smile.
“Students, you are about to enter the Green Eagle Breeding Area. Besides our school’s unique lower-leading species, the Green Feathered Eagle, there are also sixty-seven common elite species available for you to freely contract,” Zhao Qingsong paused for a moment, “But there’s one thing I need to emphasize again!”
“Choosing a beast shouldn’t just be about the creature’s species; compatibility between the beast’s temperament and the tamer is also very important!”
“I understand that all of you want to contract a more powerful beast, but you must know that a beast is not just a tool for a Tamer. The beast you contract will be your lifelong partner, never to be abandoned unless one of you dies. So, don’t rush blindly into your decision and don’t focus solely on strength; the beast that suits you best is the right choice!”
His tone grew heavier as he saw that most of the students did not take his words to heart. He sighed quietly to himself.
Back in his day, he had also placed too much emphasis on strength, abandoning a high-ranking elite species beast that had shown an instant affinity for him in favor of a Green Feathered Eagle that conflicted with his personality. This led to frequent conflicts after the contract, making stable cooperation in guardian beast operations impossible, forcing him to leave the frontline against the exotic beasts and switch to teaching in high school.
Although these young students might not fully understand his regrets, even if just one of them took his words to heart, it might prevent the same tragedy from happening again.
Shaking his head, Zhao Qingsong spoke up loud, “Okay, everyone in. You all have the whole day to choose. After making your choice, just pay the corresponding breeding fee to take home the contracted beast cub!”
As his voice fell, the eagerly waiting students rushed one after another into the nearby park entrance, for fear of missing out on the beast they desired if they were even a moment late.
Zhao Qingsong’s face darkened, then he couldn’t help but laugh at himself.
Wasn’t he just as eager when he went through his initial beast allocation?
Huh? Is someone still not going in?
His expression slightly stunned, he noticed the only young man who had not rushed into the park.
It’s Lin Su.
Recognizing the identity of the young man, Zhao Qingsong’s face lit up with realization.
As Lin Su’s homeroom teacher, he obviously knew about Lin Su’s situation. The boy probably couldn’t afford the breeding fee for a Green Feathered Eagle and had to settle for an elite species.
Lin Su had excellent theoretical grades in Beast Taming, so naturally, this outcome was probably not what he wanted. Therefore, it’s normal for him to face the initial beast allocation without the urgency of other students.
Although regrettable, Zhao Qingsong was helpless in this regard. Although he didn’t earn a low income, as a master-class Beast Tamer, the expenses for training beasts were also high, so he couldn’t provide any help in this respect.
Looking at Lin Su, who was frowning thoughtfully and slowly walking towards the entrance, Zhao Qingsong couldn’t resist walking up to gently pat him on the shoulder, “Lin Su, are you okay?”
“Ah?” Lin Su came to his senses and shook his head lightly, “I’m fine, teacher.”
In fact, his mind wasn’t on the beast allocation at all. He was still replaying the incredible experiences he had had the night before in a place called the Martial Spirit World.
Was everything that happened, which felt immensely real, just a dream?
Deep down, he felt something wasn’t right but couldn’t pinpoint what, until he was sitting on the bus coming to the park and spontaneously closed his eyes to meditate to pass the time, only then did he discover his beast space had upgraded to a second-order space overnight.
This was enough to prove that what happened last night wasn’t a dream, and his crossing over was real.
Now, he faced two major questions.
First, why did he cross over?
Second, would he continue to cross over?
The first question wasn’t hard to answer.
Recalling the details of both crossings, he had fallen asleep each time before waking up in another world.
So his cross over was highly related to sleep.
Checking if he would cross over again the next time he slept would verify this guess.
As for the second question, Lin Su wasn’t sure, so it was necessary for him to analyze how either possibility would affect him.
