chapter 2

1. Mond (2)

Crispy skin, juicy and moist meat, and the taste of the stew that adds a hint of sweetness without being too sweet.

The crunchy and sweet texture of the flower added a unique feeling, and the fragrant aroma enhanced by various seasonings elevated the gamey taste of the meat.

It was a level that I couldn’t believe I made. It was not just the level of a skilled culinary student, but it could be believed that a top chef made it.

Is this the power of the system?

It was unfair that I hadn’t been able to enjoy this good thing until now. If I had had this ability from the beginning, it would have been a great help to adapt.

But even such small grievances quickly melted away because this ‘delicious and sweet chicken stew’ was delicious.

The impressions of the food seemed to be not much different for Lumine and Paimon. Especially since it was a meal they hadn’t had in a long time, both of them seemed to feel the taste of the food more profoundly.

Lumine silently ate her food with a faint sense of happiness on her young face, and Paimon, who was the size of a young child, also enthusiastically ate the meat while playing with her knife.

The mealtime was not long. The dish was quickly devoured, leaving only bones, and despite the fact that the portion was not small, there was a deep sense of regret on Lumine and Paimon’s faces.

It was understandable for Lumine, but how much food could possibly fit into Paimon’s tiny body?

It was an unknown question, but since Paimon’s existence itself was a mystery, I decided to let it go.

“Ah, that was delicious. I didn’t know Xiwoo was such a great cook. Right, traveler?”

“Yeah, honestly, I was surprised. It’s been a while since I had such a satisfying meal.”

The two satisfied individuals engaged in conversation. Lumine stretched and added playfully,

“I should just become a full-time housewife, shouldn’t I? If I were a capable housewife like Xiwoo, I’d be welcome.”

“I’m not saying that lightly, and besides, I’ve only shown you my cooking, haven’t I?”

I couldn’t help but notice her armpit, but quickly cleared my throat and replied.

Indulging in Lumine’s jokes one by one would be detrimental to my heart. Just hearing such words from a beautiful woman like Lumine was already enough honor.

I had to be careful with the topic. I had already received enough kindness from Lumine. In the Teyvat continent, where I thought no one would help me, she became my first friend and protected me without asking for anything in return. That alone was a debt of gratitude that I couldn’t repay in a lifetime.

It would be crossing the line to greedily try to get along well with Lumine. I didn’t want to make things awkward with her.

“Well, should we start preparing for camping? By the way, we’re arriving at ‘Mondstadt’ or something like that soon, right?”

“Yeah, don’t underestimate Paimon’s guiding skills. We’ll probably arrive at Mondstadt Castle tomorrow.”

“It’s been a while since I slept somewhere other than the ground.”

I ended the conversation with Paimon at an appropriate point. ‘Mondstadt,’ a city I was seeing for the first time since being separated from the Teyvat continent.

What kind of place would it be? It wouldn’t be tainted by some strange notion that it’s a Chinese game, right?

Like communism or fascism.

As I prepared for camping while thinking about various things, Lumine and Paimon left to wash themselves in the nearby river.

I couldn’t follow them to the bathing spot. Instead, I started setting up the tent on behalf of Lumine and Paimon. This tent was the biggest obstacle to my self-proclaimed role as a porter, even though it was made of a material that was surprisingly heavy despite some magical treatment.

I wonder if they sell lighter tents in this ‘Mondstadt.’ Grumbling like that, I continued to set up the tent and organize my belongings when suddenly my eyes fell on my backpack.

Come to think of it, some seasonings I didn’t buy here popped out.

Since Lumine and Paimon weren’t here, I reached into my backpack to solve the mystery. And in that moment…

[Backpack] – Backpack capacity 7/2,000

With those words, a translucent window appeared before my eyes. This time, it was quite a substantial appearance with even a scroll.

‘Backpack’? Even though I haven’t played this game much, I wasn’t ignorant enough not to know what this word meant. It’s a function that exists in any game.

The ‘backpack’ I know, the storage function, seemed to be indicated by the semi-transparent window, where a few of my possessions were displayed in an icon-like form.

I put in and took out a few items with a sense of wonder. I even tried putting the backpack in the backpack.

The weight remained the same. Just slightly heavier than the backpack itself. Just to be sure, I added a few more rocks, but there was no change in weight, or even if there was, it was insignificant.

Come to think of it, the backpack felt strangely light today. Was it because of this? I gazed quietly at the number written next to the picture of the ‘rocks’.

Among the rocks in the backpack, there were some big ones and some small ones, but regardless of size, they all seemed to be considered the same.

I recalled the biggest rock among them. As I did, something in the backpack touched, and as I lifted the backpack, the rock I had in mind fell with a thud.

Once inside, they lose their distinction as ‘rocks’, but when I take them out, they seem to be designated in their own way. It couldn’t be anything but an incredibly convenient ability.

Something too big to hold in my hand popped out when I shook the backpack. How big of things can it hold?

I glanced at the tent that had just been set up. Obviously, it wasn’t a size that could fit in the backpack. Even so, it was a tent large enough for two people and a Famon, and still maintain a certain distance between Lumine and me.

In other words, it was huge. It was a tent that was almost like carrying a burden even when disassembled. Could this fit in too?

When I thought about putting this tent in the inventory, the backpack opened and began to suck in the tent.

And a new icon appeared in the inventory. ‘Tent’,

“Wow, it works.”

It was amazing. Maybe this was the most amazing of all its abilities.

As I experimented by putting in

And what reflected in my eyes was Luminé, illuminated by the moonlight. Her face, attire, and posture were all the same, with only her damp platinum hair glistening under the moonlight.

Beautiful. Her skin seemed even whiter and softer today. Whether Luminé knew or not, she had a faint smile on her face.

“Did you wait long?”

“Well, not that much…”

Feeling uneasy for no reason, I avoided Luminé’s gaze. Whether Luminé knew or not, she casually approached without a care.

The scent that filled the air was refreshing. Did she have separate toiletries?

“So, you set up the tent while I was gone? We should have helped.”

“I can handle this much on my own. I feel more at ease when I do some work too.”

“The food we made earlier is enough for today, isn’t it?”

As Luminé said that, she suddenly raised her head, turning my line of sight.

“From now on, Siu will be in charge of cooking. It’s annoying that you haven’t cooked until now.”

While saying that, Luminé smiled with her eyes. She had a beauty that took my breath away. Even if I had planned to do it anyway, my answer wouldn’t have changed.

What made my seemingly still heart beat again was the sound of her murmuring, always by Luminé’s side, fidgeting.

“Yes, it’s annoying that someone with such amazing skills doesn’t even cook!”

In response to Faimon’s grumbling, I smirked and laughed. He truly was an entertaining guide who never had a dull moment. I wondered if he would keep talking all day if there were stories to tell.

“Yeah, it’s just cooking. I can do it anytime.”

And perhaps, I could do more than just cooking. My gaze was faintly drawn to the ‘backpack’ that came to mind.

Maybe, the time for me to become independent wasn’t far off.

So we chatted with Luminé and Faimon, went into the tent, and, as always, I slept that night while being careful not to touch Luminé.

Faimon seemed dissatisfied, sandwiched between me and Luminé.

However, what could be more approachable than Paimon?

And so the journey to Mondstadt, the morning of the last day dawned.
