Chapter 28
Idsys smiled as he looked over the gifts, while Gergys furrowed his brow.
As they clapped their hands in unison, a magical circle opened in the air, and gift boxes rained down from it.
“Of course, it’s our sister’s special day, so this much is necessary,” Idsys said nonchalantly, causing the palace staff to widen their eyes in astonishment.
It wasn’t actually necessary.
Now the total number of gifts was 2,244!
How could that be considered ordinary?
But the most surprising fact was that Vikal’s gift wasn’t even included in that count yet.
Surveying the surroundings, Vikal deactivated his magic, shaking his head and clicking his tongue softly.
“Good thing I prepared 1,000 gifts. Tsk.”
The last click of his tongue was full of pride.
With that, a dazzling aurora spread across the bright blue sky.
Riding on the beautiful veil-like aurora, winged gift boxes floated down gracefully.
Plop.
Plop, plop.
Plop, plop, plop.
The boxes landed one by one, creating a path leading to the First Path of Spring where Cherishe would soon arrive.
With Vikal’s addition, Cherishe’s adoption celebration gifts now totaled 3,244.
This number was a historical record for gifts received by a single Princess.
A record that no one would be able to break.
* * *
“Hanna, presents are falling from the sky…”
At that moment, I was staring up in a daze.
Small gift boxes were already piled up in my arms. Hanna and Madam Maya were picking up the boxes scattered on the ground.
But the gifts riding the aurora didn’t stop coming.
Some were even floating around me.
“Shall we go over there?”
“These are all for me?”
“Of course. They are all for you, Princess.”
Hanna answered proudly.
Still astonished, I followed Hanna, and soon enough, the scent of plum blossoms wafted through the air.
‘Sweet!’
But there shouldn’t be any plum blossoms blooming in this season.
“Look over there, Princess!”
“Wow.”
So pretty!
White and deep pink plum blossoms were in full bloom, creating a wave of flowers in front of my eyes.
At the entrance of the path stood Your Highness the Prince and the twins, as if waiting for me.
Like a family waiting at the door for their youngest sibling who came home late.
“Welcome, my dear sister.”
“So small and slow.”
Idsys and Gergys each greeted me with a comment.
Bang!
“Princess, congratulations on your adoption!”
Excitedly, I ran towards them, and Sophia popped a confetti cannon.
Pink star glitter sparkled in front of me!
“From now on, only happiness awaits you!”
“May you always be happy, Princess.”
The next to speak were Hanna and Shami.
Madam Maya pushed a trolley with an incredibly beautiful cake, accompanied by the head chef Dexon, and my eyes widened in amazement.
“It’s huge!”
A 7-tier cake covered in pink cream and decorated with cherries!
My name was written on it.
‘Cherishe Wynn Castalia.’
‘If I exaggerate a bit, I think I could live inside it.’
Could this really be my adoption surprise party?
“Come on, sit here, little one.”
Gergys seemed to grumble, but he pulled out a chair for me, and Idsys escorted me to my seat.
“What’s that flower crown? It looks great. Do you have one for me too?”
Asking with such a pretty face should be considered cheating!
‘So that’s why Madam Maya made four flower crowns.’
I glanced around, then first reached out towards Your Highness the Prince.
“Dad, this is for you.”
It wouldn’t do to give it to the twins first.
“A flower crown, I see.”
“It suits you well!”
The unchanging truth about handsome people.
Anything looks perfect on a handsome man.
The golden flowers atop his wine-colored hair looked charming. On Your Highness the Prince, it seemed like a victor’s crown.
I looked at him with satisfaction and then placed a crown on Idsys as well.
Idsys gently held my hand and asked,
“And me? Do I look pretty too?”
I said it suited him, not that he looked pretty.
But with Idsys smiling like that, I couldn’t deny it.
He was pretty, after all.
“Yes, you’re pretty.”
“Cherry is pretty too. My dear sister.”
“Ger, brother! You should wear one too.”
Unlike Your Highness the Prince and Idsys, who easily wore the crowns, Gergys crossed his arms and turned his head away.
He wore a stern expression.
“No way! Why should I wear that?”
“Because good brothers do.”
I pouted a little, trying to persuade him.
“I can’t wear something so delicate!”
Delicate…?
Everyone tilted their heads at Gergys’s outburst.
What did he mean by that?
“Pfft… I’m sorry.”
Solip was the first to realize what he meant, and then I did too.
‘Ah! Is he saying he’s afraid of the soft and delicate petals?’
Calling it “delicate” was certainly an unusual way to express it. Gergys clearly needed to read more books.
I shook my head and extended the last remaining flower crown to Sophia.
“Ger doesn’t want it. Sophie, you wear it.”
“Oh my, can I really?”
This was the strategy: make it seem like she’d miss out if she didn’t wear it!
Gergys’s eyebrows twitched, and just before the crown could pass to Sophia, he snatched it away.
“Well, it’s mine after all.”
“If you take it, you have to wear it. That’s the rule.”
“What rule?”
“This one.”
“So childish… Fine, I’ll wear it.”
So much fuss for something he was going to wear anyway.
With all four of us now wearing flower crowns, we sat down.
I beamed at the array of cupcakes, pies, muffins, and crispy croissants before me.
So many delicious things!
“Cherishe.”
“Yes!”
My heart pounded.
Were they about to tell me I was officially adopted?
Is that why they prepared this sudden party?
The whole world was in cool autumn, but this space was like spring.
Who could have cast such an enormous spell? Of course…
“The adoption process is complete. From now on, call me Dad.”
The weighty words softly filled my ears.
Adoption process, Dad.
Those two words filled my small body to the brim.
Feeling like I was floating, I grabbed my cheeks and stomped my feet, at a loss for words.
I wanted to say something—how happy and delighted I was!
“Little one, remember that one of your gifts is from me.”
“Don’t call her ‘little one,’ Ger. Call her Cherry. Right?”
Gergys and Idsys each said a word in turn.
I was so happy that I couldn’t stop my lips from curling into a smile, and eventually, I reached out to Your Highness the Prince.
“Pa!”
I was too shy to call him Dad yet.
Your Highness the Prince looked momentarily surprised but responded softly.
“Yes, Cherry. From now on, I will be your Dad.”
“I’m so, so happy!”
“I’m glad to hear that. Do you like the surprise party?”
“Very much!”
How many people in life get to have such a party?
I couldn’t sit still, and when I reached out again, Your Highness the Prince lifted me up.
Even without looking, I knew my cheeks were bright red.
‘Those beautiful crimson eyes.’
His gaze wasn’t scary at all.
From the beginning, Your Highness the Prince had been an ally, the strongest golden rope I could hold onto.
Now he was my Dad.
But somehow, my feelings had changed a bit from the start.
‘He was just someone to help me. Someone to save me from Alexandra. That’s all he was.’
But now…
‘I want him to be my Dad.’
I hoped that this strong embrace holding me would never disappear.
That the lips calling me daughter would always stay the same.
Even though I would eventually log out and return to reality, until then, I had a family here.
Your Highness the Prince, holding me, approached the towering pile of gifts, spotting a basket on the floor.
“This is a gift for your adoption.”
“What is it?”
“Alexandra has been tormenting you a lot, hasn’t she?”
Snap.
With a snap of his fingers, the basket tipped over, spilling out not scraps of paper but numerous letters.
The crumpled and trampled appearance showed how much the writer hated writing them.
A bunch of curse letters?
“Letters of apology.”
Seeing my skeptical look, Your Highness the Prince clarified.
He must have thought the same at first glance.
‘Wow, Alexandra must have been grinding her teeth while writing these.’
How satisfying.
‘So, you think your Dad being the South Emperor is everything?’
My Dad is strong too!
Feeling extremely childish, I wanted to puff out my chest and say “ahem.”
Just once, because I wanted to.
“…Thank you, Dad.”
“Say it again.”
“Dad…?”
“Yes. From now on, just call me that. No matter when or where, I’ll come to you.”
His voice was heavy.
As if swearing to the sincerity of this promise.
At the same time, all the attendants around Your Highness the Prince placed their hands on their hearts and bowed slightly.
“I hope you’ll tell me about any difficulties you face. From this moment on, you are not alone.”
Ah.
Why did I feel like my breath was catching and tears were welling up all of a sudden?
