Chapter 11: Chapter 9: Athena's Revelation
The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows over the city as John Wick and Dominic Toretto navigated the bustling streets. The events of the past few days had been relentless, and the absence of Athena's guidance had not gone unnoticed.
"We need to find out what's going on with Athena," Dom said, breaking the silence.
John nodded. "Agreed. She's been silent for too long."
They made their way to a discreet safe house, one of John's many hideouts scattered throughout the city. Inside, the room was sparse, furnished only with the essentials. A single laptop sat on a wooden table, its screen dark.
John powered it on and initiated a secure connection to Athena's network. Moments later, the familiar voice of the AI filled the room.
"John, Dominic, it's good to hear from you," Athena said, her tone tinged with relief.
"Athena, where have you been?" John asked, concern evident in his voice.
"I apologize for my absence," Athena replied. "I've been monitoring a significant development that required my full attention."
Dom leaned forward. "What kind of development?"
"Ares's activities have attracted the attention of a powerful organization known as The High Table," Athena explained. "They are the governing body of the criminal underworld, and they do not take kindly to disruptions."
John's expression hardened. "The High Table... I've had dealings with them before. This complicates things."
"Indeed," Athena agreed. "They have issued a contract on both of you, deeming you a threat to their operations."
Dom clenched his fists. "Let them come. We've faced worse."
"It's not that simple," Athena cautioned. "The High Table has vast resources and influence. Direct confrontation would be unwise."
John took a deep breath, considering their options. "What do you suggest, Athena?"
"We need to gather allies," Athena said. "There are those within the underworld who oppose The High Table's methods. If we can unite them, we stand a chance."
Dom nodded. "Then let's get to work."
Over the next few days, with Athena's guidance, John and Dom reached out to various contacts, forging alliances and gathering intelligence. The atmosphere was tense, but their resolve was unwavering.
One evening, as they were finalizing their plans, Athena's voice broke through the silence.
"I've intercepted a communication," she said. "The High Table is planning a major operation tonight at the old docks."
John and Dom exchanged a determined look. "Then that's where we'll be," John said.
As they prepared to leave, Athena's voice softened. "Be careful, both of you. The High Table is not to be underestimated."
"We know," Dom replied. "But they haven't met us."
With that, they set out into the night, ready to face whatever awaited them at the docks. The battle against The High Table was just beginning, and with Athena back by their side, they felt a renewed sense of purpose.
