Chapter 163
Shin Do Yoon placed the Seed of Divinity on the prepared altar.
The selected candidates stood at their designated positions, ready to accept the power.
“…I’ve heard all the explanations, but it doesn’t feel real.”
Julian Chenwiltz glanced at Shin Do Yoon as he spoke.
Probably, other candidates felt the same way.
“I’m sorry for not telling you beforehand, but there was no way around it. If I revealed the truth, it would defeat the purpose of the test.”
Without voicing any discontent, the candidates nodded and steeled themselves.
“Whatever happens, this final battle rests in our hands.”
“We have no choice.”
With that, Shin Do Yoon began the ritual and turned to leave me a message.
“You know, as soon as the ritual ends, the invasion will commence.”
“I’m already prepared. Let them come as they please.”
“…Alright, I’ll leave it to you.”
There was something different in that single statement, an emotion I hadn’t sensed until now.
As if saying goodbye, Shin Do Yoon’s words made me briefly turn to watch his back.
Finally, in a monotone voice, Shin Do Yoon articulated the final stage of the plan.
“By using the Seed of Divinity and myself as materials, the system will finally be completed.”
“What? What do you mean…?”
“That everything was arranged for this moment.”
No one in this place failed to understand the implication.
Everyone looked at Shin Do Yoon with confused expressions, while he chuckled and offered his last goodbye.
“It’s more comfortable not knowing the outcome.”
“Wait…!”
Song Ha Yeon tried to intervene, but the ritual had already activated long ago.
Slowly turning into particles of light, Shin Do Yoon shifted his gaze to Serejia, who was in a corner.
“You’re the next deity of Earth.”
“…What?”
“You’ve had experience, the others are just too unreliable.”
That casual remark, coupled with a sidelong glance at me, was an utterly unperturbed attitude.
As if he wasn’t facing death but going on a trip after a long workday.
“I’m sorry to pass many burdens onto you. But forgive me, if this is work, I’ve done it over and over, so can’t I take a little break now?”
To that indifferent Shin Do Yoon, I too coldly offered my last farewell.
“Shall I light a lantern after it’s all over?”
“…Do as you wish. It’s not like I’ll see it anyway.”
“Then I’ll make it blue.”
We would ultimately win. That was all I needed to know as I departed.
After a long silence, Shin Do Yoon finally opened his mouth, as if resigned.
“I prefer silver gray.”
“…That’s a rather picky preference.”
With that being the last remark, Shin Do Yoon completely transformed into light and vanished.
And all that energy began transmitting to the five Hunters.
“…Huh.”
“Ugh!”
It was an overwhelming power for a mere human.
Under normal circumstances, the vessels would shatter, and both body and soul would burst apart without a doubt.
However, Shin Do Yoon’s system, created over countless years, effectively suppressed all backlash.
As the transfer of power concluded, the Hunters descended from the altar with dazed expressions, checking their own bodies.
“It doesn’t just feel like we got stronger.”
“…It’s like we can do anything now.”
That expression was indeed accurate. The power they had received was to that extent.
The first to demonstrate this was the Seven Stars, Julian Chenwiltz.
Whoosh!
Swish!
“Whoa, this is….”
“Please help us. We will face overwhelming foes alone.”
Following Julian was a soul that I had sensed previously.
With a single gesture, Julian bestowed a body upon him as he prepared himself with resolute eyes.
Just as everyone was about to nod in acknowledgment of the perfectly successful ritual, a simultaneous wave of power began to stir from various directions.
It was easy to guess its identity.
“The dungeon is… forming.”
“That means they’re coming.”
Finally, the moment to confront the true mastermind behind the dungeon crisis had arrived. Naturally, they couldn’t be trembling.
However, in front of the determined Hunters, I stepped forward and waved my hand.
“What are you doing? There are heaps of enemies; are you going to fight so kindly?”
Every time my hand passed, intense spatial waves resonated, causing the forming dungeons to shrivel.
“…What are you doing?”
Even though they had gained power, Song Ha Yeon asked, startled by the incomprehensible technique I displayed.
The answer was simple.
“Step on a foothold, then it’s only natural to drop it.”
They would probably be stuck in the dimensional rift, unable to move for a long time on a journey to nowhere.
Since I could choose when the enemies would arrive, it was a viable workaround.
Whoosh!
Boom!
I diligently dumped the dungeons springing up in Korea and nearby countries into the dimensional rift, yet still, many passages were completed, and the doors finally opened.
From there, formidable troops began to surge forth.
“They’re coming. What about the others?”
“All nations are currently mobilizing their maximum forces for defense. However…”
“It seems they won’t be able to hold them off.”
As Julian mentioned, with a few exceptions, each of them was simply too formidable to confront.
Yet to protect Earth, they had to fight too.
Moreover, there were still competent individuals left in the world who could handle mere low-tier foes.
“Don’t shift your gaze unnecessarily. If we can’t take down their leadership, it’s all over.”
And at last, they began to reveal themselves.
Something possessing a power completely different from the few beings we had encountered until now.
‘…They’re indeed strong.’
I had merely felt the aura that leaked from them. Yet even that was enough to sense they were on a level all their own.
‘Excluding him… there are six that stand out.’
Excluding those, the rest were merely at a level where the Hunters, who had completed the system, could sufficiently contend, as Shin Do Yoon predicted.
With that, I lifted the Book of Death into the air and continuously infused divine power into it until it overflowed.
Then, I opened it abruptly and unleashed it.
“Wipe them all out.”
Whoosh!
Boom!
With a deafening noise that could tear ears apart, countless Undead poured forth, scattering in all directions.
With this level of force, other Hunters should be able to sufficiently hold off the enemy troops.
So, all I needed to focus on was the monster right in front of me.
“Fight only the ones you can realistically beat.”
“That’s not possible…”
“No, it’s just more efficient that way. What’s the point of holding onto someone you can’t beat?”
Leaving those words behind, I dashed out from Shin Do Yoon’s abode, heading toward the place where the God of Death was presumed to be.
Whether he was aware of us or not, the dungeon he hid in was located at the very edge of Korea, by the West Coast.
In an instant, I reached the sky above there, and in a show of farewell, I shot a spear of curse as my last words.
“Are you going to just hide away like a turtle forever?”
〔I’ve been waiting. God of Death.〕
Soon, a door opened, and seven beings, led by a man, revealed themselves.
These were the powerful individuals I had sensed earlier, standing on a different level entirely.
They were surely the gods leading this entire army.
‘…The three in the middle all seem to be first-tier gods.’
Ultimately, Shin Do Yoon’s prediction came true in the worst way possible.
Among the enemies, there was indeed a first-tier god, and it was not just one.
However, on the other hand, a peculiarly exhilarating feeling filled me.
‘Right now, I’m stronger.’
That was not arrogance but conviction.
Even before I obtained divinity, I had enough power to rival second-tier gods.
And now that I had emerged from the Underworld of Thebes, I was evidently nearing the realm beyond first-tier gods.
It seemed I wasn’t the only one who felt that; some of the gods accompanying the man showed signs of surprise.
“Oh great God of Death, who is this author…?”
“He is a being we cannot underestimate. Here, we shall all stay behind and handle this. Master, may you achieve what you desire.”
Yet despite the concerns of those underlings, the jet-black-haired man raised his unseen face and emotionlessly issued his command.
〔No need. Go.〕
“…As you wish.”
With that, the underlings scattered, and at last, only one man remained, facing me at a distance I could clearly see.
Despite being a single leap away, I couldn’t gauge his actual strength.
That was proof that he possessed power that surpassed even me now.
〔It’s surprisingly calm. Aren’t you afraid?〕
“What, all of a sudden? As if I only fought weaklings before.”
Not that I took pride in it, but I had once lunged at a thousand-year-old lich while handling just a single Death Knight.
So, having subdued a planet and obtained divinity, there was no reason for me to flee, even if the opponent was a transcendent being whose history I couldn’t measure.
〔Ignorance can sometimes be the greatest courage. Even if it seems futile, one can deceive oneself for a fleeting moment.〕
Facing such grandiloquent words, the emotion I held was quite simple.
“I’ve heard that so many times, it’s grown tiresome.”
Ultimately, nothing was different.
He was stronger than me, and did not harbor the slightest thought of losing.
And smashing such beings was something I had been good at since time immemorial.
