Chapter 770: The Power of War Demon!
By seeing a small piece, one can deduce the whole picture. In addition to the leaders, there were also the major and minor captains, who commanded tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands of nightmare warriors, respectively.
If the leader-level strength had reached the high-ranking divine authority level, then even the weakest of the captains should be at least at the divine level!
In this world, individual strength cannot rival the power of an army. While there are differences in the combat power of individuals, these differences are not so extreme.
With this in mind, Sterl finally understood why even a powerful nation like the Kingdom of Orichalcum did not dare to continue exploring Dreamland.
Even the most powerful gods, when faced with hundreds of thousands or even millions of enemies, with the weakest of them at the legendary or demigod level, along with countless formidable elite troops, would soon face inevitable defeat.
Sterl even suspected that, even for the great gods of myth, the outcome against the full-strength Nightmare Legion might not be favorable.
"No matter whether it's mass tactics or individual strength, once they reach a certain level, they are equally undefeatable," he couldn't help but muse. Then, he thought of the Dream Spirit Empire.
"It seems that this journey to Dreamland won't be so simple."
The Dream Spirit Empire, once a dominant force in Dreamland alongside the Nightmare Legion, had nearly been wiped out during the battle tens of thousands of years ago. However, to be able to resist the full power of the Nightmare Legion, their strength must have been formidable.
Furthermore, after successfully sealing the Nightmare Overlord and War Demon, along with all the elite forces, the Dream Spirit Empire had become the undisputed ruler of the entire world.
With the Dream Spirit Empire controlling all the world's resources and having developed over the course of tens of thousands of years, its current strength would likely be even greater than it once was.
This meant that once Sterl's identity was exposed, it would undoubtedly lead to the Dream Spirit Empire hunting him down. The situation would become extremely dangerous.
Of course, even though he had become the leader of the Nightmare Legion, his ultimate goal was still to obtain Dream Power, not to dominate the entire world.
Thus, it might not be necessary to become an enemy of the Dream Spirit Empire.
Additionally, if he freed everyone from the sealed chambers, even though nearly half of the powerful beings had perished here, the remaining forces would still be immensely powerful.
With that thought, Sterl proceeded to the third sealed chamber, then the fifth… the sixth…
Time slowly passed, and more and more powerful nightmare beings, having absorbed large amounts of Twisted Power of Nightmares and restored much of their strength, began to group together, focusing their power and accelerating the breakthroughs of the sealed chambers.
As for the sealing chains, they were all easily destroyed by Sterl under the weakening effect of Dream Power.
"Warlord, let me once again bask in your glory."
After a sealed chamber, entirely black and resembling metal, was shattered by the combined efforts of the group, a towering figure over eight meters tall, with a muscular build resembling that of a humanoid giant beast, slowly rose and bowed deeply, lowering its noble head before Sterl.
Sterl gazed at the figure before him. This nightmare being, named Wood, was the most powerful nightmare being he had encountered so far, without question.
In fact, Sterl even felt a faint sense of threat emanating from this being.
Wood, astonishingly, was the commander of the personal guard, in charge of leading a hundred elite warriors. He was also the most formidable and steadfast shield by Sterl's side.
"To think he rivals even the lower-tier powerful gods... truly remarkable..."
Sterl's expression remained unchanged. The War Demon he had replaced was never one to smile, his hands stained with more blood than the oceans.
So no matter how powerful his subordinates were, he had to maintain his authority.
However, he was deeply surprised. He never imagined that one of his personal guards would possess such a powerful god-like presence!
What's more, Sterl began to realize that his personal guard's strength was far beyond what he had anticipated.
The leader-level nightmare elites had powers close to the lower limits of high-ranking divine authority. The thousand generals were at the mid-tier of high-ranking divine authority, and only the hundred or so lords commanding millions of soldiers barely reached the extreme limits of high-ranking divine authority.
But his hundred personal guards, at their peak, were almost all at the extreme limits of high-ranking divine authority.
This revealed just how supreme the former War Demon's status and authority had been within the Nightmare Legion.
Sterl finally understood why the Nightmare Overlord had been willing to sever an arm in order to agree to the Dream Spirit Empire's plan to seal him away.
Because the power of the War Demon's personal guard alone could give a sense of just how much War Demon's prestige had reached a point of overshadowing even his superiors. In fact, among the common folk of the nightmare faction, many knew only of War Demon and had never even heard of the Nightmare Overlord.
When the last grand marshal escaped the prison, the Twisted Power of Nightmares that had been stored in the entire underground city was absorbed entirely by these ancient, nearly corrupted beings from the past era.
Their power had mostly recovered to about seventy to eighty percent of its former strength.
Only the ten grand marshals and the personal guard commander Wood had only restored about fifty percent of their power.
Their strength was so overwhelming that the depleted essence was not easily restored. However, as long as they could escape the Eternal Light World and return to the land of nightmares, they would be able to recover their strength with the vast amount of Power of Nightmares.
It's worth noting that the ten grand marshals, as Sterl had anticipated, were all incredibly powerful beings, none of them weak. Most of them were at the level of powerful gods, though they belonged to the weakest tier within that category.
But such a terrifying number of them was enough to send chills down anyone's spine.
At this moment, in the center of the underground city, on a hundred-meter-tall black iron pillar, a terrifying colossal beast was tightly bound by countless twisting sealing chains.
The beast's immense size made it inevitable that it would not withstand the erosion and wear of time. It had fallen into deep slumber, only breathing once a day to conserve energy.
"Barbatos, awaken from your slumber, and bear the glory granted by Lord War Demon!"
A humanoid being, its skull-like head shrouded in black mist, stepped forward. Its head was adorned with countless diamond-like objects, and in its hollow eye sockets, two green flames flickered with each word it spoke.
With his words, a strange wave surged toward the Colossal War Beast, the Demon Winged Serpent, Nightmare that Devours the World, Barbatos.
This figure was none other than one of the ten grand marshals of the Nightmare Legion, the Marshal of the Mind's Nightmare, Walker.
Sterl narrowed his eyes as he sensed the divine abilities released by Walker. He didn't detect any Divine Power or Law emanating from him, but the power of nightmares and the mind was certainly at the level of a powerful god.
Even Sterl, if caught off guard, would find it somewhat troublesome to deal with.
Whether it was Commander Wood or the ten nightmare grand marshals, none of them were to be taken lightly. Each one possessed a unique and powerful ability.
Otherwise, the Nightmare Legion wouldn't have been so difficult to deal with, nearly sweeping away the entire world.
"How did the former War Demon manage to make the entire Nightmare Legion bask in his glory?"
Sterl pondered this in his heart.
He was not the true War Demon, so he had no idea what abilities the original War Demon possessed.
If future situations required him to use War Demon's abilities, he would likely be exposed in an instant.
At that point, he would be surrounded by ten grand marshals, each at the level of a powerful god, along with a personal guard commander at the same level, and over a hundred powerful warriors, lords, and others.
In that case, his only option would be to use the Dream Orb to forcibly leave this world.
But if he did so, the Dream Orb would likely shatter under the chaotic assault, and he would lose his chance to obtain Dream Power, setting back his plans to grow stronger.
However, since Dreamland is not centered on individual combat power, but rather on the strength of the group, it's highly likely that War Demon's abilities are related to warfare.
Either War Demon possesses an incredibly powerful ability to command armies, or he has the power to enhance and empower his soldiers.
In comparison, Sterl leans more toward the latter.
Because in the clash of billions of soldiers, strategies and formations are less effective than the difference in raw power.
If War Demon's ability could amplify the strength and survival capabilities of his soldiers, making all the nightmare warriors significantly stronger, it would indeed play a crucial role in the battle.
It could even allow the Nightmare Legion to crush everything, sweeping across the entire world!
After realizing this, Sterl felt somewhat troubled. The powerful abilities he currently possessed were mostly geared toward combat.
The only ability he had to enhance his subordinates and soldiers was some legendary abilities he had obtained from legendary beings.
However, every ability has its limits. A small legendary ability would not be realistic to significantly enhance even the weakest nightmare soldiers, who were at the legendary and demigod levels.
The Starry Battle Armor did have a similar ability, though.
Starry Battle Armor
Description: ...
Effect: ...
Attached Skills:
1,Realm of the Stars: Condenses star power to release the Realm of the Stars. Within the domain, all followers and armies of the Starry Clan receive a 10% boost in all attributes. Meanwhile, all non-Starry Clan powers will be suppressed to some degree (the suppression effect is proportional to their own attributes).
2,Stellar Barrier: ...
Unfortunately, the enhancement of Realm of the Stars only works for those of the Starry Clan.
Sterl's mind darkened. To truly command this terrifying army, he would need to quickly obtain a similar ability. Otherwise, no matter how powerful this force was, the backlash would be just as catastrophic for him.
