Avatar, the spirit of knowledge

Chapter 35: Chapter 35

[Solon POV]

The men were struggling.

It wasn't surpising, chaotic spirits are called as such because of their abilities. They have practically nigh-infinite energy since they feed upon the energy that gets created during battle. They regenerate fast as long as they have energy and their power increases sharply once they transform from their original form.

'Vaatu had gone beyond expectations when he first created them, according to Chronos that is.

I must admit that they were fascinating creatures.

I should capture some of them and experiment in the future.'

I wasn't able to complete my thoughts as a human form was lauched towards me with enough speed to shatter a stone wall.

I lifted my arm and aimed it towards the figure. As it touched my palm I immediately used my power to disperce the force behind the man, stopping him in place while saving his life as a side effect.

"This has gone on for long enough." I said out loud as I made some movements with my arms sending a large earth spike charged with pure energy towards the spirit.

The spirit in it's arrogance ignored the attack and rushed towards me, which led to it being impaled through the head with the sharp end of the spike passing throught it's body and exiting from it's back.

The soldiers looked at me with awe in their faces as they just saw me easily kill an opponent they struggled with.

I ignored their surpise and walked to my ostrich horse, climbing on it's back and motioning to the men to wake up.

Most of them shook their head ignoring what they just saw as they picked up their general and started to move throught the forest once again.

[Medic POV]

I wasn't strong. I was always considered weak with the power of the earth, from young age I never really connected with the earth as other people did and that lack of connection had affected my bending.

I believed that my mind was enough for me. After all humans survive without the power of the earth, so I can also be strong without it.

'A naive thought a small child had. As time passed I refused to train my powers and most villagers told me that I was wasting my potential.

Yet I never stopped trying to prove them wrong. I read books, made research about the human body and developed ways to heal people with natural resources.

Then, tragedy struck.

I was collecting herbs when I heard a huge explosion taking place where my village was.

I started running.

I had hoped that that noice was just a building falling due to a mistake.

Yet the world called me a fool once again.

I reached the village to see spirits attacking people, tearing them apart and eating them on the spot as a large number of hunters vainly tried to stop them and protect the villagers that evacuated the place.

I rushed towards my house, as fast as possible hoping to get my elderly parents and my sister away from this carnage but what greeted me was a huge bear spirit standing on top of some ruins that were parts of my house when I left.

Among those collapsed pieces of stone I saw the feet of a human. My eyes widened in horror as I tried to find some kind of explanation that would prevent my mind from collapsing.

*crunch*

A disgusting sound disturbed my thoughts.

I looked towards the root of said sound only see the bear munching the upper half of my mother's body while her head and one and a half hands where hanging from it's mouth.

Her face twisted in an expression of terror and pain while a large amount of blood covered her once blonde hair and part of her head as single eye was missing from it's socket.

My mind blanked as I saw part of my mother getting devoured by a spirit.

"PA-"

"PAMU!-"

"PAMU! WAKE UP." A sudden voice woke me up.

I looked to my side to see my father missing an arm as he held my unconsious sister in his hand.

Unfortuantely, my father's shouts drew the spirit's attention as well.

It looked at us and started walking towards us as it growled threateningly.

Once my father saw the spirit's movement, a bitter smile appeared in his face and he passed my sister to me.

"Here! Take her and move south, I will keep it here as much as possible."

"You can't handle it in your condition. Let me hadle the spirit and you go south." I said as I looked at him.

*Slap*

What followed was him slapping my face with enough strength to shake my brain.

"What father would I be if I let my children die to save myself? I may be old but I was a hunter in my prime, don't underestimate me you brat." He said with a small laugh, mostly to calm me down.

"NOW GO! Take care of your sister for me." He said as he pushed me towards the rest of the people evacuating and he rushed to attack the spirit that had closed in on us.

The village's head hunter came close to me, took my sister from my hands and guided me to the evacuation carts.

He said something to the driver and ran towards the rest of the men fighting.

As the cart headed to the forest, large explosions and roars were heard from the village for a short amount of time before everything calmed down.

After that we were rescued by a small squad of soldiers that patrolled the "new" border.

When my sister woke up she started wailing her eyes out since apparently she saw our mother getting killed by that spirit.

Meanwhile, the only thing I could feel was anger.

Yet, in this very moment I saw a man easily kill a creature that could lay waste to multiple villages.

'Where were you when tragedy struck?'

I knew the question was unreasonable, but it was the only thing I could think of after I saw him skewer a chaotic spirit like kebab.
