Avatar: Mage of All Elements

Chapter 49: Chapter 49

Hama said there are about thirty million in the land of fire, and the land of earth, for a second, is ten times as big. And crossing a third of the country and seeing only a dozen people was eerie. Yes, I saw cities with many people.

But they were far away, because all the cities we went through had flyers with me on them, so I had to send Kai's guards into the city. It pissed me off, but there was nothing I could do about it.

But the hardest part was when it was time to leave. I was frankly scared. I quickly found a way out. I created a small cocoon at the bottom of the ice ship. I provided myself with air, some warm skins, and some snacks for a few days. You can't just do that, you have to be careful. The slightest mistake and either the cocoon will get a hole or the ship will get a hole.

But my fears were not realized. Only two days and I'm home. To avoid any problems, I stealthily left the ship and quietly slipped into my house. Kaya will go to the inn and stay there for the time being. I didn't want the Fire Warriors to come here and start killing everyone. So I went to my room, put on my Kyoshi Warrior paint and uniform, and went outside.

I had to see the faces of those who recognized me, and they were all islanders. It's nice to be welcomed and happy to be back. A lot of people wanted to celebrate, but I had to be discouraged because I didn't want to be discovered and connected to the island in any way. Still, the whole time I was on the island, I had only been out in public without makeup a couple of times. But it was me! And even if they call me paranoid, it was better to be prepared now than to regret it later.

I was on my way to the dojo. And as I approached, I could hear the sounds of the girls practicing more and more clearly. I couldn't see what, where and how, because in my time I had put a layer of rubber under the floor, which made seismic vision useless.

I did that because sometimes, during the rainy season, the dojo would flood a bit because of its awkward location, and so the floor would be wet. Still, it's not my old world for the old to be functional. For the locals, it's either beautiful or practical.

Once inside, I realized I had missed something, as there were thirty to forty people in the dojo. Apparently, when everyone left, the student decided to go for quantity over quality.

When I walked in, I was immediately noticed. It's scary to have so many girls looking at you. Honestly, I thought I was going to be attacked, since no one was canceling spies. Except that everyone stopped practicing, made a ceremonial bow, and then continued practicing. This caused confusion, but I was distracted by a somebody that crashed into me and started mumbling something.

In general, the newcomers had a self-tutorial today. And the news was delivered to me in my absence. As it turned out, all my students returned safe and sound. The last one, by the way, came back only a week ago. So I was worried for nothing. They did everything I asked them to do. Well done, I'm proud of them.

Now they're at their posts, guarding the island, and I'll only see them in the evenings. We've decided to train the new recruits to the end. After all, we didn't take in strangers, we took in our own. Maybe we'll train all the residents at some point in the future. But since there's no need for that right now, we'll stick with what we have now.

Also, a few days ago, a certain man arrived dressed as a water tribe. He was looking for me, but since I wasn't there, he left a message. That's what my student and I went after. She had the letter, but word got around and we ended up at my place, and we arrived at her place around noon the next day.

The thing is, some of my other students had heard about my arrival and decided to visit me. So, terribly sleepy and tired, but terribly satisfied, I got the message.

The message said that Hakoda, Katara and Sookie's father, was gathering Avatar friends for a battle with the Fire Lord during an eclipse. This will be in about two weeks. Where everyone is gathering, the message said. The message also contained two of my scrolls on magic, which I had given to the Avatar. It gave a minimal amount of credibility. To go or not to go, there was no question. Rather, when to go?

It would take a week to get there, and even faster with my moving method, so I think I can stay here with my students for a while. After all, we haven't seen each other for a long time, and we need to catch up.
