Chapter 45: CHAPTER 45: THE NEW PROJECTS

Sana's mind was still clouded from the previous night's conversation. Logan's words replayed in her head like an unyielding echo, making her chest feel heavy. She had barely slept, her thoughts tangled with confusion and guilt. The weight of his confession lingered, and she dreaded facing him.

When morning came, the sun filtering through the curtains offered little solace. Layina's gentle breaths filled the room, a reminder of the innocence she sought to protect.

Deciding not to dwell on her worries any longer, Sana rose quietly, letting Layina continue to sleep. She headed to the washroom, hoping the warmth of the water would wash away her unease. As the steam curled around her, she thought about everything—Logan's vulnerability, her unwavering feelings for Levi, and how the delicate balance of her relationships might shift.

When she emerged from the washroom, toweling her damp hair, a sweet, giggling voice cut through her thoughts.

"Mummmaa! Hehehe!" Layina's laughter rang out, bringing an instant smile to Sana's lips.

"Layina, my child, you're awake!" she exclaimed, rushing to scoop her daughter into her arms.

Layina was three now, brimming with energy and curiosity. Her small hands grasped Sana's face as if trying to communicate her boundless excitement. Sana couldn't help but laugh, momentarily forgetting her worries.

After feeding Layina and dressing her, Sana held her hand as they descended into the bustling barracks. Layina, as usual, became the center of attention, receiving smiles and greetings from everyone.

However, Sana noticed Logan in the corner. His eyes darted away quickly when their gazes met. The tension between them was palpable, and Sana's heart sank. She forced herself to focus on the task at hand, knowing that her responsibilities couldn't wait.

Clapping her hands, she called everyone's attention. "Alright, everyone, gather around! We've got a lot to discuss today."

The room fell silent, anticipation buzzing in the air.

"Today, we're kicking off some brand-new projects!" Sana announced, her voice brimming with enthusiasm. "Are you ready to hear about our top-secret missions?"

The group erupted into cheers, their excitement infectious.

"Here's what we'll be working on," she began, her tone playful yet commanding. "Electric motors, cranes, automotive vehicles, and long-distance communication devices."

The silence that followed was thick with awe. For a moment, no one spoke, processing the ambitious scope of Sana's plans. Then, a small clap broke the silence.

It was Layina.

Her tiny hands clapped enthusiastically, her face lit with a grin. The entire barracks burst into laughter and joined in the applause.

"Thank you, Layina, for your support!" Sana said, her eyes twinkling.

s the applause died down, Sana began outlining her vision for the projects. She explained how each invention could transform daily life within the walls, offering new possibilities for efficiency, safety, and communication. Her excitement was contagious, sparking a sense of purpose in the room.

"These projects aren't just about innovation," she said with a determined tone. "They're about giving us the tools to build a stronger future, to stand tall against whatever comes our way."

The group listened intently, their expressions shifting from curiosity to awe. The weight of Sana's words filled them with determination. What once felt impossible now seemed within reach, thanks to her leadership

Once the discussion ended, she addressed the team again. "I'll be heading to Erwin's office now to discuss these plans further. Keep up the good work, and I'll check in later."

Sana left Layina in the capable hands of the barracks members and headed for Erwin's office.

---

The meeting with Erwin dragged on longer than expected, delving into intricate details of resource allocation and future strategies. Sana's passion for innovation shone through as she laid out her vision for how their inventions could transform not just their barracks but the entire Scout Regiment.

Finally, with her notes neatly stacked and her ideas approved, she decided to make an unplanned stop on her way back—to see Levi.

---

Knock, knock.

Sana knocked on the door of Levi's barracks. It was opened by a young soldier with golden hair tied back in a neat ponytail.

"Ah, is Levi here?" Sana asked politely.

The soldier blinked, momentarily surprised. "Yes, Heichou is here. May I ask who you are and what brings you here?"

"I'm Sana," she replied with a small smile. "A friend of Levi's and Isabel's. I was passing by and thought I'd drop in."

Realization dawned on the soldier's face. "Oh! My apologies, Sana-san. I've heard about you—the head of the new research and development wing. I didn't mean to sound rude."

"It's alright," Sana assured him. "You weren't rude at all."

The soldier, who introduced himself as Erd, escorted her to Levi's door before bidding her farewell.

When Levi opened the door, his expression softened, though he hadn't been expecting her.

"Sana," he said simply.

Without a word, she jumped into his arms, hugging him tightly. Levi, ever composed, closed the door behind them.

She kissed his cheek and grinned. "Surprise!"

Levi smirked faintly, guiding her to sit as they began talking about everything—her projects, his missions, and little moments from their lives that only they could share.

Time slipped by unnoticed, but Sana knew she couldn't linger. Before leaving, she kissed him once more, a lingering gesture that spoke volumes.

On her way out, she made another stop—this time to visit Isabel, who was staying in the common room with the other scouts. Their reunion was joyful, filled with laughter and stories. Isabel's exuberance was infectious, and Sana felt lighter for having spent time with her.

---

By the time Sana returned to her barracks, the sun had dipped below the horizon. She entered quietly, her heart swelling at the sight of Farlan cradling a sleeping Layina.

Sana approached silently, brushing a strand of hair from her daughter's face. She whispered her thanks to Farlan and gently took Layina into her arms, carrying her to bed.

As the night deepened, Sana lay beside her daughter, her mind finally at ease. Whatever challenges lay ahead, she knew she wasn't alone.
