Chapter 368 Xiangjiang Port

The Ark traveled along the course for two days before finally coming to a halt in a calm expanse of ocean.

It was now half past five in the early morning, and if one gazed far into the distance from the starboard porthole, one could faintly see a vibrant continental outline, the lights of a city illuminating a small patch of the sky.

Gu Yu turned over and sat up in bed, next to him the still soundly sleeping Lin Xinyue.

Carefully getting out of bed, he then walked into the bathroom to wash up. After getting ready, he opened the bathroom door to find Lin Xinyue still fast asleep.

So he tread barefoot on the floor, trying his utmost not to make a sound.

Just then, a beam of flashlight shone from outside the balcony, hitting the living room's ceiling before flickering away.

He tiptoed to the living room, then wrapped himself in clothes and followed the flashlight beam to the balcony, where he could faintly hear the sound of motorboat engines and the shouting of people.

The noise was not loud, seeming to come from the stern of the ship.

He leaned over the railing to look down at the stern and was stunned by the scene before him.

It was a makeshift transportation fleet composed of motorboats and small transport ships, stretching out on the ocean surface into a long line of light.

The recently arranged floating platform was piled high with all sorts of supplies, with a large number of personnel busily transferring those materials onto the Ark.

Seeing the Light Fleet stretching for kilometers and disappearing into the distant coastline, Gu Yu couldn't even guess at what time they had started working.

It was because of these people's hard work that the normal sailing of the Ark could always be ensured.

"A little more to that side, or you'll fall into the water,"

"Hurry up and get this batch of supplies aboard, the next batch will be arriving soon,"

"Switch out for someone else, take a break..."

Using his slightly sharper-than-normal hearing, Gu Yu could vaguely distinguish their conversations amidst the roaring motorboats.

Glancing up at the sky, which was barely brightening, his desire to sleep had entirely vanished.

After some thought, he returned to the living room, opened the door, and headed towards the stern cargo hold.

Upon opening the door, it was noticeably noisier outside.

Stepping out of the rest area, the soldiers who had risen early were bustling along the exterior corridors.

Each of them was carrying newly arrived supplies, ready to deliver these items wherever they were needed.

"Gu, you're up early!"

Gu Yu, moving against the flow of people, was suddenly greeted by a familiar voice.

Turning his head, he saw Ge Zhengxiang, followed by Wang Long and several other soldiers.

"I'm not early compared to you guys. Couldn't sleep, so I came to see if there was anything I could help with," Gu Yu smiled.

Ge Zhengxiang and the others' clothes were already soaked through with sweat; they must have been working for quite some time.

"Nah, we can't have you doctors helping out. Better you continue to rest," Ge Zhengxiang replied, shaking his head.

He reached out to pull Gu Yu back but hastily retracted his dirty hand.

"Everyone on the ship has their part, and it's good if I can contribute too," Gu Yu said earnestly.

He then asked, "Where are these supplies coming from?"

Touched by Gu Yu's thoughtfulness, Ge Zhengxiang laughed and said, "These supplies are all from Xiangjiang Port; our ship can't dock for some reason."

"Honestly, there's no work that needs your help; everyone has their tasks. If you have the time, why not take advantage of today and take your girlfriend out for a good time in Xiangjiang," Ge Zhengxiang suggested with a smile, his eyebrows arching. "I can go ashore?" Gu Yu was taken aback.

He had assumed everyone would have to stay on board and not be permitted to leave!

"Of course, you can, just go with the supply boats. But you have to come back before the last supply boat leaves. It's now five fifty, and the final resupply is at six in the evening; there are about twelve hours left," Ge Zhengxiang glance at the electronic display on the wall, with the time showing in the upper right corner.

"That's great! Twelve hours, enough to do quite a lot," Gu Yu was delighted inside. Although he had only been on the Ark for two and a half days, he was already feeling bored.

The previous day, there had been a heavy swell at sea and everyone was confined to their rooms all day long, forbidden to wander casually, and the entertainment facilities were shut down.

He and Lin Xinyue could only play cards or read novels in their room, which was extremely boring.

Now that the opportunity to go out had presented itself, he was naturally excited.

"That's wonderful. Is there anything special I need to report or arrange before going out?" He immediately inquired.

Ge Zhengxiang blinked, thought for a moment, and then said, "Don't think there's anything to report, really. When we went out for personal items before, we just had to inform the logistics officer. But your status as doctors might require a couple more steps; should be fine, though."

"Alright, then I'm off," Gu Yu turned and returned to the rest cabin.

He tiptoed into the room, having unlocked the door, but before he could turn on the light, a pillow flew across and hit his face.

"Ah! Yu! Sorry, I thought a burglar had gotten in," Lin Xinyue quickly jumped out of bed, picked up the pillow from the floor, and then felt Gu Yu's dazed face.

Seeing her in disarray, Gu Yu couldn't help but find it amusing, "This is the Ark; where would a burglar come from? Haha."
