Asta's Adventure

Chapter 8: Sparring (1)

Yuno, being the closest person to Asta at the church, noticed his changes more than anyone else. At first, it seemed like something minor—well, so what if he started acting a bit strangely? But over time, everything changed, and with each new detail, things became more and more... intriguing.

First, Asta stopped confessing his love to Sister Lily—a minor shock to many! After all, his weekly declarations of love had become something of a tradition. Then, after some strange encounter with what he called "Magic Power" (though it tasted closer to boiled swamp water), Asta started training with such intensity that he was spending about ten hours out of every twenty-four on training! And when asked, "Why?" he always answered with unwavering seriousness, as if he'd been entrusted with the fate of the world: "I want to become the strongest!"

And this was no longer just childish babble. His muscles started growing right before everyone's eyes! If before he looked, well, like any other kid his age, now he was as sturdy as an oak. At first, his muscles grew quickly, but over time they took on a solid form, making him look like a little warrior(😃).

Yuno saw how, in just two years, Asta transformed: if people once saw him as just a sweet, if loud, kid, now he was someone you wouldn't want to mess with. Luckily, Asta hadn't lost his quirks—he was still a bit of a fool sometimes, but now it was almost like his trademark.

And that strange bird he called Secre, which had made itself comfortable on his head, also played a part in these changes. At first glance, she was just a clever little bird. But over the years, she became almost indispensable to Asta, like a constant companion. She was with him everywhere (except for the bath and toilet, thank goodness), even helping him hunt! One day, Asta showed up at the church with a massive wild boar slung over his shoulder. You should've seen Father Orsi's face when he saw it! He immediately launched into a lecture on the dangers of such recklessness, pointing out the scrapes Asta had gotten from the beast.

But everyone was truly shocked to learn the boar weighed not just a little, but a full 250 kilograms! Even a grown man would struggle with that, yet twelve-year-old Asta carried it on his back as if it were just a sack of potatoes. When someone asked him what magic he had to lift such weight, Asta simply smirked and said, "My magic is never giving up."

There was something else that surprised Yuno, though. Asta had stopped sparring with him. At first, Yuno was worried—had Asta given up? Was he abandoning his goal? But after watching Asta effortlessly carry that boar, Yuno realized: Asta would never give up.

And then one day, after all the training, the hard days, and weeks of silence, Asta came up to Yuno with that same cheeky grin that used to annoy everyone, and he spoke a single word:

"Wanna spar?"

Yuno, honestly, almost gave himself away, barely holding back a smile. He'd been waiting for this day for a long time, and the thought of the upcoming fight stirred his spirit. But, putting on his usual serious face, he simply nodded and said calmly:

"Of course."

This was more than just a spar.
