Chapter 5 - Blind Date

Chapter 5: Blind Date

The airplane landed slowly and safely. There were no unexpected incidents along the way, which relieved Fang Jian. After all, he was no longer the penniless young man he used to be. He was now a big shot with nearly 300 million in cash flow.

Fang Jian’s hometown was Yongcheng, a robust second-tier city in China. Although it couldn’t compare to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, or Shenzhen, it was one of the rapidly growing cities in population and wealth.

The flight first arrived in Singapore before transferring to Shanghai. Then, Fang Jian took a high-speed train back to Yongcheng.

Before returning to China, Fang Jian had already spoken to his family over the phone. His parents were overjoyed to hear that their child, who had been drifting abroad for over two years, was finally coming home for a vacation.

Fang Biao eagerly offered to pick up Fang Jian but was promptly refused. They were both adults now, and after spending so long abroad, it would be embarrassing to be picked up like a child.

After a tiring journey, Fang Jian finally arrived home. “Mom, Dad…” Fang Jian greeted his parents, then crouched down, extending his arms, and said, “Fang Yiyi, come here for a hug.”

Five-year-old Fang Yiyi turned her head and burrowed into her mother Shi Hui’s arms, refusing to come out. Fang Yiyi was born after the implementation of the second-child policy, a lovely little sibling for Fang Jian.

Shi Hui slapped away her eldest son’s hand and laughed, “Go, don’t bully your sister.”

Fang Jian sighed. With an age gap of nearly twenty years between him and his sister, it was difficult to be close.

Glancing at the dishes on the table, Fang Jian exaggeratedly exclaimed, “Wow, Mom, you’re amazing. Sweet and sour spare ribs, home-style tofu, braised fish head. These are all my favorites.”

Squinting her eyes, Shi Hui said, “Good, as long as you like it. Eat more.”

The family of four sat around the dining table, and the atmosphere gradually became lively. As a result of Fang Jian bringing her a new doll, Fang Yiyi also started to let her guard down and leaned on her brother, refusing to get off.

Fang Biao asked, “Son, how long will you be here this time?”

Fang Jian smiled and said, “It’s not certain.”

“Not certain? Did you get fired?” Fang Biao asked.

Fang Jian’s face darkened. This was his biological father, no doubt about it.

“Dad, I’m here on official business. The work is not finished yet, so I can’t go back,” Fang Jian replied.

“Oh.” Fang Biao nodded and said, “That’s good. It would be even better if you could stay a few more days.”

Shi Hui’s eyes lit up, and she said, “Son, tomorrow is Saturday, and I have an appointment in the afternoon. Come with me.”

“Who is it?” Fang Jian casually asked.

“It’s the mother of your second aunt’s nephew’s classmate. She even used to hold you when you were a child,” Shi Hui said while sorting the dishes and chopsticks.

Fang Jian had initially wanted to help, but his sister clung to him like an octopus, making it difficult for him to break free. Blinking his eyes a few times, Fang Jian couldn’t recall who this person was.

The next day, Fang Jian spent the entire morning playing with his sister like crazy. Although there was a significant age gap between them, they were still connected by blood, and when Fang Jian held his sister’s small body, he couldn’t help but feel compassion and fondness.

Whatever his sister wanted, he always answered: Buy, buy, buy! He couldn’t bear to see his sister the slightest bit unhappy.

Fang Biao and his wife found it somewhat amusing. Damn it, was this still a sister or a daughter? They originally wanted to say not to be so extravagant, but seeing how harmonious the siblings were, they eventually kept their mouths shut.

Their son rarely returned, and the siblings rarely had the chance to be together, so they didn’t want to spoil the atmosphere. They had lunch outside, and little Fang Yiyi was already dozing off during the meal.

They hurriedly returned home, and she fell asleep when the little one’s head touched the pillow. Shi Hui pulled Fang Jian aside and quietly left their small house.

“Let’s go,” Shi Hui said.

“Where are we going?” Asked Fang Jian.

“We have an appointment for afternoon tea. Let’s go together,” Shi Hui said.

Fang Jian anxiously glanced at the master bedroom, and Shi Hui said, “Your dad is there. It’s fine.”

“My dad?” Fang Jian looked at his mother in disbelief, almost doubting his ears.

Shi Hui rolled her eyes at him and said, “Your dad takes good care of your sister. Ah, I can see clearly now. How he treats a little cotton jacket versus a stinky brat is completely different.”

Fang Jian touched his nose. Did this stinky brat refer to me?

They arrived at a coffee shop across the street following his mother downstairs. Then, his mother walked briskly towards a lady sitting at a table and greeted her. Besides this lady was a girl wearing glasses who looked utterly bored.

Fang Jian’s mouth twitched. At this point, he clearly understood that they weren’t just going for afternoon tea. This was a blind date.
