Chapter 20 - Visiting the Hospital.
Chapter 20: Visiting the Hospital.
Fang Biao was still organized in his actions. After a brief conversation with the teacher over the phone, he confirmed the hospital where Liu Yuanyuan was admitted. He made arrangements with Fang Yiyi to visit Liu Yuanyuan after school the next day, and the little girl finally calmed down.
Perhaps after crying and fussing, Yiyi became tired and went to bed early.
Feeling bored, Fang Jian went online and searched for information about neuroblastoma, a type of cancer commonly occurring in infants and young children. It has three risk groups: low, intermediate, and high. If it’s in the low-risk group, it’s relatively better, but if it’s in the intermediate or high-risk group, the situation is uncertain.
The next day, Fang Jian took a leave of absence from kindergarten and took Yiyi to the Second Municipal Hospital. The Hospital was an old and reputable tertiary hospital in the city, known throughout the province. Due to certain reasons, visiting the hospital at the moment was quite troublesome.
However, Fang Jian was a local resident. Indeed, after asking around in the classmate group, Fang Jian and his sister were guided by an old classmate and entered the ward.
The ward was always noisy. Fang Yiyi clung tightly to her brother’s neck, looking around with fear. Children naturally had a sense of fear when it came to hospitals. However, Fang Yiyi still bravely entered the hospital because her best friend was there.
After finding the hospital bed, Fang Yiyi stuck her head in. Then her eyes lit up, and she exclaimed, “Yuanyuan!”
On the hospital bed, there was a little girl who was about the same age as Yiyi. She was frowning and lying down, her complexion pale and unpleasant. However, after hearing Yiyi’s voice, she immediately raised her head and joyfully said, “Yiyi!”
By the bedside, there were two adults. One was Liu Yuanyuan’s mother, whom Fang Jian had met before. The other was an unfamiliar aunt.
“Yiyi, why are you here?” Liu’s mother said in surprise. Then, she looked at Fang Jian with confusion.
Fang Jian knew Liu’s mother because Yiyi had whispered it in his ear. However, it was clear that Liu’s mother didn’t recognize Fang Jian.
Fang Jian let Yiyi down, and she immediately ran to Liu Yuanyuan’s bedside. The two little girls held hands and started whispering to each other. With a slight glance, Fang Jian noticed that Liu Yuanyuan’s complexion seemed to have improved. The arrival of a familiar friend made her very happy.
“May I ask, are you Yiyi’s..,” Liu’s mother asked with confusion.
Liu Yuanyuan’s mother was not very old, probably around thirty years old. Despite forcing a smile, the worry in her eyes was difficult to conceal.
Fang Jian smiled and said, “I’m Yiyi’s brother. I heard Yiyi’s best friend is in the hospital, so I came to look.”
“Brother?” Liu’s mother glanced at the two of them, somewhat surprised.
Fang Jian smirked and said straightforwardly, “Yep, blood-related. I’m responding to the two-child policy.”
Liu’s mother suddenly realized and said, “No wonder. I was wondering why someone your age… I thought you were cousins or something.”
However, as she looked at Fang Jian, she felt awkward. There wasn’t much age difference between them, less than ten years, so they could communicate equally. But Yiyi and Yuanyuan were so close, making the situation awkward.
Fang Jian felt slightly embarrassed when someone behind him suddenly said, “Fang Jian, come out for a moment.”
He turned around and saw the old classmate who had brought him in. This classmate had just graduated from medical school and was now a graduate student. He came to the hospital for some internship program due to his family connections. Fang Jian thought it was quite normal.
It was natural to arrange for familiar people in a situation where their conditions were almost identical. Although many people felt it was unfair. They studied hard for ten years, and when they finally came out, good job positions were already predetermined for others through connections, leading to complaints.
But in reality, if you were replaced by someone else, it only meant that you didn’t possess irreplaceable value. Their family had accumulated connections and resources over three generations and several decades.
Why shouldn’t they use it to benefit their children and grandchildren instead of talented individuals like you?
If you were truly outstanding, others couldn’t suppress you. But the truth was, most people complained that they were mediocre and just passed exams by slacking off. Since you couldn’t become part of the top group, don’t complain about others’ unfairness towards you.
