If the Mother Box from the DC Universe hadn't been brought back to the world of The Boys, it likely would have lost its power—just like the Tesseract did when taken out of its original universe.
Otherwise, Azu wouldn't have needed to go through all this trouble. He could have simply taken the Mother Box and left immediately.
But now, time was of the essence. He had to see what kind of transformation the Mother Box could bring him.
Just like when he absorbed the energy of the Mind Stone in the Marvel Universe, Azu first expanded his bio-field, forming a completely sealed spherical space.
Then, he retracted his Cloak of Justice and unleashed twin beams of golden energy from his eyes, directing them onto the metal cube's surface.
Azu carefully adjusted the radiation levels of his solar energy, rapidly increasing the temperature of his Heat Vision.
In the blink of an eye, it surpassed 10,000 degrees.
The oxygen inside the sphere ignited instantly, creating a fiery inferno.
By the time Victor flew back, he was met with a blazing sphere of fire.
Without hesitation, Victor raised his arm cannon and unleashed a barrage of continuous attacks at the spherical energy field.
But every shot was repelled.
Inside the sphere, the Mother Box reacted to Azu's energy stimulation. Just like before in the lab, its surface began to shift and open, releasing surges of raw energy.
Azu knew this was the critical moment.
He intensified his solar radiation, pushing the Mother Box further, forcing its energy to flood the spherical space and crash into his body.
Thunderous surges of energy struck Azu repeatedly, each impact causing an undeniable transformation within him.
Despite having strengthened himself once before with the Mind Stone, the power erupting from the Mother Box triggered a deep, primal warning in his instincts.
Danger!
Azu instantly went on full alert. He didn't allow the Mother Box's power to rush into him all at once.
Instead, he guided it carefully, letting it enter his body bit by bit, breaking it down gradually.
Piece by piece, he assimilated the raw energy, channeling it into his very cells.
During this process, his genetic structure began to tremble—evolving.
The gaps in his genetic code were being filled, as if a missing sequence was finally being rewritten.
The Clash of Titans
Outside the bio-field, Victor continued his desperate assault, but his strength was simply no match for Azu's.
No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't break through.
At that moment, his sensors detected a rapidly approaching object.
A streak of red flickered at the edge of his vision—
Superman had returned.
"He's already activated the Mother Box's power?" Clark asked, eyes narrowing as he looked at Victor.
The young Black man nodded. "He sealed himself inside. I can't break through his energy barrier."
Clark didn't hesitate. "Then I'll do it."
His eyes lit up instantly, unleashing beams of burning crimson.
His Heat Vision slammed into Azu's bio-field.
Clark intensified his energy output, his eyes glowing red-hot.
The beams turned into blinding torrents, a raging inferno against the golden energy barrier.
At last, the intricate light threads forming the bio-field began to emerge and unravel.
Clark roared, pushing his Heat Vision to the limit, slicing upward—
Tearing open a gap in Azu's energy sphere.
The moment the rupture formed, the Mother Box's energy burst outward like a tidal wave, spilling into the night sky in a brilliant explosion of light.
Clark instinctively dodged to the side, allowing the energy surge to dissipate.
As the radiant glow faded, he spotted something plummeting toward the ground—
The Mother Box!
Clark instantly rocketed forward, breaking the sound barrier mid-flight.
Reaching out, he grabbed it—
Only to flinch in shock.
It was scorching hot!
Reflexively, he let go.
The Mother Box crashed into the ground with tremendous force, carving out a massive crater as if a meteor had struck.
Its searing heat melted the surface beneath it, causing it to sink slightly.
Only after a moment did the melting stop.
Clark lifted his gaze—
The bio-field was gone.
And Azu had vanished.
Frowning deeply, Superman landed beside the Mother Box, retrieving it from the rubble.
By now, it had cooled down, losing all traces of heat.
Gripping it tightly, Clark took off toward Metropolis.
A City in Ruins
In the devastated city, a battle had just ended.
The Scarlet Witch collapsed onto the ground, struggling to rise.
Before she could, the Godkiller Sword plunged through her chest, piercing her heart.
She let out a bloodcurdling scream before her body fell still.
Diana exhaled sharply, pulling her sword free.
Then, she looked skyward.
Above her, the massive, nightmarish machine known as the Apocalypse Engine was disintegrating.
"Looks like you've taken care of business."
A voice echoed from above.
Diana glanced up to see Clark floating in the night sky, the Mother Box in his grasp.
As the Apocalypse Engine crumbled, Clark nodded toward her before vanishing in a blur.
"Wait!"
Diana called out, but he was already gone.
The disintegrating machine rained debris upon the shattered city, dealing a second wave of destruction.
By the time the dust settled, half the city had become a wasteland.
Diana stood on a rooftop, gazing down at the devastation.
She didn't feel victorious.
Her mind was filled with the image of Superman's cold expression as he carried the Mother Box away.
The distant hum of jet engines snapped her out of her thoughts.
Turning around, she saw the Batwing descending.
The cockpit opened, and Batman stepped out.
"Good thing I had a spare," Bruce muttered. "Otherwise, I wouldn't have made it in time."
Diana crossed her arms. "What the hell just happened? Why does Superman have the Mother Box?"
"This wasn't part of the plan."
Bruce nodded. "No, it wasn't."
He quickly summarized the events—John's plan to steal the Mother Box, the ensuing battle, Superman being lured away, Azu seizing the moment to harness its power, and Clark returning just in time to reclaim it.
But Azu had vanished.
"Victor took his father to the hospital. Dr. Silas should be fine—probably just minor burns."
Bruce's voice grew heavy. "What worries me… is Superman."
"He's thinking about something."
Batman played a recording.
A voice, deep and resolute, echoed—
> "I think it's time I try something new."
"A world without violence."
"If they refuse to give up violence, then I'll make them."
"I will rewrite the rules of this world. I will stand above all laws, as the one, absolute authority."
"And change… begins tonight. With you."
Diana's expression darkened.
"If I didn't know that was Superman's voice…"
"I'd think it was a dictator's proclamation."
"What is Clark planning?"
Bruce looked at the ruined city, his voice grim.
"I don't know."
"But I do know this—we can't fight this alone anymore."
"Whether it's Superman or this mysterious John…"
"For the first time in my life, I feel powerless."
"I actually miss the days when my biggest problem was the Clockwork Penguin."
Then, he turned to Diana.
"Miss Prince, I think it's time we put together a team."
"A team that can handle real threats."
Diana sheathed her sword.
"I think we'd better do it fast."
A New Power Awakens
Three days passed.
Metropolis, ravaged by disaster, was still in chaos.
Thousands of people had fled. Many had lost everything.
Lynn was one of them.
A struggling auto mechanic, he worked odd jobs, living paycheck to paycheck.
Now, with no income and rising expenses, his bank balance had hit rock bottom.
Standing before an ATM, he stared in horror at his account balance—
Only $10 left.
A voice behind him urged, "Hurry up, man, people are waiting."
Lynn sighed, turning back to the screen.
Then, he froze.
Rubbing his eyes, he checked again.
His balance had jumped to $10,000.
That was three extra zeroes!
"This… This isn't real."
Trembling, he withdrew $1,000—
The machine whirred, counted, and spat out crisp bills.
Laughing in disbelief, he clutched the cash, kissing it repeatedly.
Across the street, a pair of eyes observed him.
Azu.
Smiling, he withdrew his fingers from the digital network.
His new ability had awakened.
That night, when Clark tore open the bio-field, Azu, in a critical moment, gained an ability.
From the energy of the Mother Box, he obtained the power of the "Information Domain."
Now, Azu could transform himself into an information-stream lifeform, capable of entering any information network and existing within it.
He could even allow his consciousness to parasitize any mechanical creation, thus achieving another form of immortality.
And these were just the most basic abilities.
In addition, he also gained three abilities: "Knowledge Projection," "Information Manipulation," and "Quantum Sub-Brain."
"Knowledge Projection" allowed Azu to project the knowledge or information he possessed directly into the target's brain.
This enabled the other party to instantly grasp that knowledge and information, completely bypassing the learning process.
Back in the Marvel Universe, if he had possessed this ability, he could have instantly allowed Shuri and the others to master Kryptonian knowledge and technology, without needing to spend days teaching them.
"Information Manipulation," on the other hand, allowed him to release information streams to interface with any network or electronic terminal, granting him the ability to arbitrarily read or modify information.
Just like earlier, when Azu altered Lynn's bank balance, changing it from 10 dollars to 10,000.
Finally, "Quantum Sub-Brain."
Azu could now generate multiple "Quantum Sub-Brains" within his mind.
These sub-brains could store information in place of his actual brain, perform high-speed calculations, assist Azu in analyzing his opponent's attack patterns, formulate targeted tactical strategies, and even predict enemy attacks, among other functions.
Because they were "Quantum Sub-Brains," they lacked biological properties and, naturally, did not occupy space in Azu's brain.
Overall, the "Information Domain" ability did not directly enhance Azu's combat power.
However, it made him more versatile while also significantly improving his survivability.
Watching Lynn leave happily, Azu glanced around the street and smiled.
"For now, this will do."
He gently touched the "Traveler's Ring" on his hand.
A flash of blue light flickered from the ring, and in the next instant, Azu vanished from the street.
He had left the DC Universe.
