As a Villain I Really Don’t Want To Be Pursued by the Heroine

Chapter 20

20

“You’ve done well!”

Beside the mahogany desk, the usually composed and understated Karl couldn’t help but express his great admiration for Roy, his slightly unkempt beard trembling with his upturned smile.

The news of Roy winning the princess’s favor spread across the nation in just a few days.

In the past, when Karl went out drinking and family matters came up, he was ashamed to mention Roy. But now, his old mates envied him to death.

“How did the young master charm the princess?! I wish my useless lads would learn a thing or two!”

Beyond being a noble and an extraordinary, Karl was first and foremost a person, a middle-aged father concerned about his son’s marital affairs.

Karl didn’t ask for Roy to achieve great deeds, only that he continues the family lineage.

Roy’s notorious reputation had always been Karl’s heartache.

In fact, Karl regretted assigning the matchmaking task to Roy that night.

Even if Roy wanted to reform, his long-standing bad reputation wouldn’t vanish overnight. In the eyes of noble daughters who value character and reputation, this was a fatal flaw.

Yet, Roy managed to win over the Lionheart Princess in just one meeting!

In the entire Lionheart Kingdom, there was no woman more outstanding than Charlotte Reinhardt.

Karl’s face beamed with anticipation, as if he couldn’t wait to hold his grandchildren: “So, when’s the wedding?”

“Calm down, father. It was just one meeting; it’s not time for marriage yet!” Roy couldn’t help but laugh and cry.

“Besides, the rumors are too exaggerated. We’re just ordinary friends.” Roy said this with a hint of regret: “Charlotte didn’t stay for the dinner in the end.”

Roy couldn’t help but recall that moment.

The red-haired princess, blushing before him, hesitating to speak, her gaze tender, displayed a moment of delicacy that made even the sunset seem dim.

To be fair, at that moment, he truly thought Charlotte had those feelings for him.

But becoming friends with Charlotte was already much better than Roy had anticipated.

“Oh.” Hearing Roy say this, Karl finally calmed down.

According to the Lionheart Kingdom’s aristocratic etiquette, not having dinner meant they weren’t officially lovers yet. Engagement was indeed still far off.

But what of it?

His son was still ten times ahead of his peers!

“So when’s your next date?”

“Father, I’ve told you to stay calm,” Roy said, exasperated.

“Ha ha, just kidding. I won’t meddle in the affairs of you young people.”

Carl waved his hand, his smile softening, “Let’s talk about serious matters.”

Seeing Carl’s expression turn solemn, Roy couldn’t help but straighten up.

Reporting on the matchmaking could be casual dinner conversation, but Carl had specifically called him to the study for something more important.

From noble mtl dot come

Roy had an inkling of what it was.

In front of the desk, there was an antique-looking metal box, exquisite despite its simplicity. Carved on it were blood-red swords and shields crossed over each other, giving off a faintly oppressive aura at a glance.

It was the family crest of the Einblad, the symbol of the [Ironblood] lineage.

The treasure that could be contained in such a box, bearing the family crest, Roy could only think of one thing.

The [Ironblood] elixir.

“Even Her Royal Highness the princess acknowledges you, I think it’s time to give this to you.”

Roy instinctively reached out to take it.

But Carl suddenly held down the box.

His voice suddenly heavy, “Actually, I don’t want you to become an extraordinary being.”

Roy wasn’t too surprised, “I can understand, after all, with my previous behavior, I indeed don’t deserve to inherit the power of [Ironblood].”

However, Carl’s next words revealed a bitter smile, giving an answer beyond Roy’s expectations.

“It’s not that you’re unworthy. It’s that I don’t want it.”

“Roy, what do you think an extraordinary being is?”

Roy was puzzled and replied literally, “An existence that surpasses ordinary people?”

“Exactly, and because they surpass ordinary people, they must bear responsibilities far beyond those of ordinary people,” Carl’s gaze became slightly clouded, his voice hoarse and solemn.

“For thousands of years, across three eras, this world belonged to dragons, to wizards, to those indescribable monsters from the dark abyss, until the fourth era when humanity awakened to the extraordinary, and this continent truly belonged to mankind.”

It was a power all too familiar to Roy, yet listening to Carl Einblad, one of the top extraordinary beings of the human world, it was as if Roy was transported back to that era of darkness and glory, when humanity first awakened to the extraordinary.

“But this world is still dangerous.”

At this point, Carl’s eyes flashed with a grave crimson.

“The perilous ancient beasts in the forests, the cults hidden within the cities, the indescribable demonic tribes at the far west of the continent… As an extraordinary being, one day you will have to face them as a human.”

“As a noble, you can be mediocre, worthless, ignorant, or a philanderer, you can live a life of insignificance, enjoying the benefits given by the commoners and your ancestors.”

“But an extraordinary being cannot. Especially for us of the Einblad family, as the sword and shield of the Lionheart Kingdom, there is no room for evasion.”

“Whether you are exceptionally talented or of noble status, whether you like it or not, when that day comes, the only thing you can truly rely on is yourself.”

“Do you have that resolve?”

Carl’s fatherly warmth receded, and as a member of the Einblad family, and more so as an extraordinary being, he looked at Roy with a gaze as sharp as a sword.

Roy had never pondered these questions before, and for a moment, he didn’t know how to respond.

“No, seriously, who would understand this?”

“Angel’s Waltz” is just a yuri gal game about romance at the academy, right?! Don’t slam such a serious worldview in my face all of a sudden!

“Take your time, this question is important,” Karl’s voice softened a bit.

Despite his complaints, Roy knew this was likely a choice that would determine his fate, and he managed to stay calm.

If possible, he too wished to be a good-for-nothing young master.

But the “Contrary Fate Node” on the panel always gave him an inexplicable sense of crisis.

He had successfully passed the Contrary Fate Nodes of Alice and Charlotte, but what if he hadn’t?

No one could guarantee whether the future Contrary Fate Nodes would require combat power. There was still a long way to go before Alice grew into the Saintess of Destiny, and Roy needed the power to protect himself.

Moreover, there was the ‘cult’ that Karl had just mentioned.

In the original story, ‘Evil Young Roy’ died not only because he abused Alice and made enemies with the daughters of heaven but also because he dabbled in the cult.

In the eyes of anyone from Viseya, those who sold their souls to the evil gods were no longer human. In fact, those beasts indeed did not act human, and ‘Evil Young Roy’ was considered the least among them.

The matter of Charlotte’s matchmaking once again made Roy realize that this was not a game; there were no saves, no options, and things would not always go as he anticipated.

Even if he didn’t provoke the cult, he couldn’t be sure that the cult wouldn’t target him.

With less than a year left until “Angel’s Waltz” officially began, he couldn’t just sit and wait.

“Father, I’ve made up my mind.”

“I want to become an extraordinary being.”

Finally, Roy reached out and picked up the box containing the “Ironblood” potion.

He didn’t notice the look of deep melancholy in Karl’s eyes at that moment.
