A Talk With Ais I
"Let us all take a break, I need some more time to come to a conclusion." Riveria said.
Naturally, much like she had expected, Riveria's words earned her a few side glances from the more decisive girls but in the short time she had spent with the group, the high elfess had earned herself enough clout that nobody commented and kept their thoughts, whatever they might be, to themselves.
"Ais, come with me. I want to talk a bit about your . . . Let's say "work ethic"." Nox took the opportunity to bring Ais aside to discuss her overworking issue.
Ais froze up as a her gaze swam around, the very picture of a guilty cute little girl caught doing something wrong, except Ais was already old enough to be a beautiful young teenager instead. The gap was quite interesting to see though.
*sigh* Riveria sighed, seeing that her problems just kept adding up.
"Thinking later. I want in on this conversation as well." The high elfess declared and Ais looked positively terrified since Riveria was definitely the disciplinarian in her life.
No one thought anything strange out of this since they all knew Riveria was pretty much a mother figure for Ais but talking about the girl that was always working to hard, was only half her objective.
Yes, Riveria did place a lot of importance on Ais' issue that Nox had pointed out but the discussion would also provide a good opportunity for her to discuss Nox's plan with him privately while not drawing the other girls' attention.
Nox lacked anything like an office so he and the girls ended up going to his room and Riveria stood beside him as they both eyed down Ais who uncomfortably squirmed and fidgeted in place.
"You know why you're here so have you anything to say for yourself?" Nox questioned.
"It wasn't that bad . . ." Ais replied in a really low voice.
Nox sighed in exasperation while Riveria was massively irritated. Overworking was a long standing issue with Ais, even from the time she had just joined the Loki Familia as a mere rookie Level 1.
But the reason why her replies were so frustrating was not because she was trying to fool them by understating the work she put in. Ais Wallenstein had many childish features, one of which, was that due to the way she was raised, she simply did not even consider lying.
Hence the problem. When Ais said "it wasn't that bad", meaning, she hadn't actually gone to hard in her Dungeon diving and general training, she actually believed her own words. In her mind, she was truly not pushing it too far.
In fact, she always felt she was not doing enough and needed to work harder and harder, take risk, cut down all of her time for jun and even rest just to put a little bit more training in.
The only thing she actually put time aside to do was sleeping, being able to black out nearly instantly and do so pretty much anywhere, so as to recover a bit and swiftly return to work.
Though after Nox joined up, as she felt quite comfortable around him due to his partly Spirit like presence, Ais did time a few breaks to spend some time following him around, not doing or saying much, just enjoying his presence.
Still, the greater issue was left unattended and after joining Nox's group and getting access to all the cheating tools that would allow her to not only get greater results from her training but also allow her to train harder for longer and with less danger.
That was not bad in and of itself as those were the purposes Nox had created those tools and supplements in the first place but Ais abused them to ludicrous degrees.
Her original training routine was already harsh but after she joined, Ais dialed up it up to utterly masochistic, maybe even suicidal.
"You were the only one in the entire group since its creation to request additional Panacea since yours ran out." Nox pointed out to Ais.
The girl now felt even more guilty and Riveria realized the problem was even more serious than she believed if Ais had actually requested extra Panacea.
It was a miracle drug that could revive the recently deceased. Why the hell did she need more!? Was she training to the point of near death or what?
"How many?" Riveria questioned with barely concealed rage at Ais' lack of self preservation.
". . . Three . . ." Ais quietly replied.
"What did you used them for?" Riveria continued to question.
Nox had to admit, he had no idea why the high elfess asked that. After all, in was a healing medicine, she probably took too many risks, got herself injured and simply took it to reduce what would possible be a long recovery or a life threatening injury to nothing . . . Right?
"I was using the normal supplements, the stamina and Mind draughts to keep me going and the healing medicines to take care of the scratches along the way . . ." Ais started.
"But eventually, they stopped working as well and injuries started accumulating, I got tired faster and faster and by the time I realized, I was a bit to ragged to go back to a safe zone. Nox said not to hold back on the Panacea if we felt there was any danger so I used it to recover." She continued.
"I started going back up but noticed that the recovery medicines that stopped working for reason were not working just as well as when I had started so . . ." Ais didn't say the rest but it was obvious.
"So you wore yourself down to the point even Nox's medicine stopped working on you, then proceeded to use valuable life saving medicine to undo all that accumulated, stress, exhaustion and damage, just so you could repeat the process again." Riveria finished Ais' sentence for her.
Honestly, even Nox found the high elfess scary right now. Never had he seen her so irate before and if he was to be honest, he was pretty mad too.
Ais was about to get the dressing down of a lifetime . . .
