Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Shadows of Betrayal
The return to Hogwarts after the ambush felt hollow. Though the mission had disrupted Voldemort's supply chain, the group couldn't shake the feeling that they had walked into his trap. The question loomed larger than ever: who within the castle was feeding him information?
Kai Thornwood stood in the Room of Requirement, staring at the enchanted mirrors they had installed. The traitor was out there, and if they weren't rooted out soon, their next battle could be the last.
"Still obsessing over the spy?" Daphne's voice pulled him from his thoughts. She entered the room, her presence grounding as always.
"They knew we were coming, Daph," Kai said, his jaw tight. "Every move we make, they're a step ahead."
Daphne leaned against the table, her arms crossed. "We've set traps, questioned suspects, monitored communications. If there's a rat, they're playing an exceptionally long game."
"Or they're closer than we think," Kai muttered.
Daphne raised an eyebrow. "You don't think it's one of us, do you?"
Kai hesitated. "I don't want to. But Voldemort's influence runs deep."
Daphne's gaze softened. "You're carrying too much, Kai. This isn't just your fight."
He smiled faintly. "You're right. But if we fail, everyone pays the price."

A Whisper in the Dark
Late that night, as the castle slept, Kai's enchanted mirror flickered. A faint silhouette appeared, barely visible against the glass.
"Kai Thornwood," the voice whispered. It was cold, calculated, and unmistakably dangerous.
Kai's hand went to his wand. "Who are you?"
"An ally. For now."
Kai narrowed his eyes. "That doesn't sound reassuring."
The figure chuckled. "Voldemort is closer than you think. He has spies in every corner of this castle, even among those you trust."
"And you're just telling me out of the kindness of your heart?" Kai asked, his voice laced with skepticism.
"Let's just say I have my reasons for wanting him to fail," the voice replied. "Check the east wing at dawn. You'll find what you're looking for."
Before Kai could respond, the figure vanished. The mirror returned to its usual reflective surface, leaving him with more questions than answers.

The Discovery
At dawn, Kai led Harry, Hermione, and Daphne to the east wing. The section of the castle had been abandoned for years, its corridors shrouded in dust and silence.
"Are you sure about this?" Harry asked, his wand at the ready.
"No," Kai admitted. "But we don't have the luxury of ignoring leads."
They searched the wing room by room, their footsteps echoing through the empty halls. Finally, in a disused classroom, they found it: a secret compartment hidden beneath the floorboards. Inside was a magical communication device—a black orb that pulsed faintly with dark energy.
Hermione gasped. "That's a Nocturne Orb. It's how Death Eaters communicate with each other."
"And someone's been using it inside Hogwarts," Daphne said, her tone icy.
Kai studied the orb, his mind racing. "We'll need to trace its magic. If we can track the user, we'll know who the traitor is."
Harry clenched his fists. "Good. I'm tired of playing defense."
---
Unmasking the Spy
Tracing the orb's magic wasn't easy. With Hermione and Theo's help, Kai crafted a spell that would reveal the user's identity. They worked late into the night, their nerves frayed but their determination unwavering.
Finally, the spell was ready. The orb glowed brightly as Kai cast the incantation, its energy swirling like a vortex. Slowly, an image began to form—blurred at first, then clearer.
Gasps filled the room as the traitor's face came into view.
"Pansy Parkinson?" Daphne whispered, her voice filled with shock and betrayal.
Kai's expression hardened. "She's been feeding Voldemort information this whole time."
---
Confrontation
The next morning, Kai summoned Pansy to the war room under the guise of a routine meeting. She arrived as her usual self—calm, composed, and calculating. But as soon as she stepped inside, the doors locked behind her.
"What's the meaning of this?" Pansy demanded, her voice sharp.
"You tell me," Kai said, his tone cold. He gestured to the orb, which sat on the table. "We found this. And we traced it to you."
Pansy's eyes flickered with fear, but she quickly masked it. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Don't lie to me," Kai snapped. "We've got the evidence. You've been working with Voldemort."
The room grew tense as Pansy's facade cracked. "You don't understand," she said, her voice trembling. "He gave me no choice. He'll kill my family if I don't cooperate."
Daphne stepped forward, her expression furious. "And what about us, Pansy? Did you think about what your betrayal would cost?"
Pansy looked down, unable to meet Daphne's gaze. "I'm sorry," she whispered.
Kai sighed, his anger tempered by pity. "We can't let you leave, Pansy. But we can protect you—and your family—if you cooperate."
She hesitated, then nodded. "I'll tell you everything."
---
The Greater Threat
Through Pansy's confession, they learned that Voldemort's next move was even more dangerous than they'd feared. He had discovered a way to bypass Hogwarts' defenses, using an ancient artifact hidden deep within the castle.
"The artifact is called the Eclipse Keystone," Pansy explained. "It's buried in the Chamber of Secrets. If he activates it, he can bring down the wards entirely."
Kai's heart sank. The Chamber of Secrets was a labyrinthine maze, and they had no idea where the Keystone might be hidden. Worse, Voldemort's forces were already mobilizing to seize it.
"We don't have much time," Kai said. "If Voldemort gets the Keystone, Hogwarts is finished."
---
Into the Chamber
The next day, Kai, Harry, Hermione, and Daphne descended into the Chamber of Secrets. Armed with enchanted maps and every spell they could muster, they ventured into the dark, serpentine corridors beneath the castle.
The air was thick with tension as they navigated the maze. Every turn brought new dangers—booby traps, cursed guardians, and lingering traces of Voldemort's dark magic. But they pressed on, driven by the knowledge that failure wasn't an option.
Finally, they reached the heart of the Chamber: a massive stone altar adorned with serpentine carvings. At its center lay the Eclipse Keystone, pulsing with dark energy.
"We found it," Harry said, his voice filled with awe.
But before they could celebrate, the air grew cold. A chilling voice echoed through the chamber.
"Did you really think I'd let you take it?"
Voldemort stepped from the shadows, his wand raised. Bellatrix and a dozen Death Eaters flanked him, their eyes gleaming with malice.
Kai's grip tightened on his wand. "We're not letting you win."
Voldemort's lips curled into a cruel smile. "Then you'll die trying."
