Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Secrets Beneath the Castle
The Council of Houses had taken its first step toward unity, but Kai Thornwood knew that battles in the Forbidden Forest were just the beginning. The system had been eerily silent since the encounter with the Death Eaters, a fact that left Kai uneasy. He stood on one of the balconies overlooking the Black Lake, deep in thought, when Daphne joined him.
"Brooding again?" she teased, leaning against the stone railing. The moonlight reflected off the water, giving her a soft glow.
"Strategizing," Kai corrected, though his lips twitched in a faint smile. "Something about that last fight doesn't sit right with me. Those Death Eaters weren't just hunting random students—they were looking for something."
Daphne frowned. "You think it has to do with the castle?"
Kai nodded. "Hogwarts holds secrets even Voldemort doesn't fully understand. If they're probing its defenses, they might be trying to access one of those secrets."
She tilted her head, watching him closely. "And you already have an idea where to start looking, don't you?"
Kai's smile widened, a spark of excitement in his eyes. "As a matter of fact, I do."

The Search for the Forbidden Archive
Kai gathered his core team—Harry, Hermione, Daphne, Theo, and Blaise—in the Room of Requirement. The space had shifted to resemble a war room, complete with ancient maps of Hogwarts and its surrounding grounds.
"According to the Thornwood family journals, Hogwarts has a hidden chamber known as the Forbidden Archive," Kai explained. "It's said to contain knowledge too dangerous for anyone to wield—spells, artifacts, and maybe even pieces of lost history."
Hermione's eyes lit up with curiosity. "I've read about rumors of such a place, but nothing concrete. Why would the Death Eaters be after it?"
"Because if the Archive exists," Kai replied, "it could hold the key to either defeating Voldemort or making him unstoppable."
Harry clenched his fists. "Then we can't let them find it."
"Exactly," Kai said. "But locating the Archive won't be easy. It's protected by ancient wards and riddles designed to keep it hidden. And I suspect it's somewhere beneath the castle."
"Beneath the castle?" Theo echoed, raising an eyebrow. "You mean in the dungeons?"
"Deeper than the dungeons," Kai clarified. "The system hinted at a network of forgotten tunnels and chambers. We'll need to explore carefully."
---
Into the Depths
Late that night, the group ventured into the dungeons, armed with enchanted lanterns and their wands. The air grew colder as they descended, the walls damp and covered in moss. Kai led the way, his system interface providing him with faint directional clues.
"Do you even know where we're going?" Blaise asked, his voice laced with skepticism.
"Not exactly," Kai admitted, "but the wards are starting to react. We're close."
Hermione paused to examine a set of runes etched into the wall. "These markings are ancient. They might be a clue."
Kai nodded and activated his system to analyze the runes. A soft chime confirmed his suspicion.

System Notification: Ancient Riddle Detected
"The key to the Archive lies where shadows meet the eternal flame. Speak the name of the one who built the path, and you may proceed."
---
"It's a riddle," Kai muttered. "Figures."
"Shadows and flame," Daphne mused. "That sounds like the Chamber of Secrets."
"But the Chamber doesn't have eternal flames," Harry pointed out.
Hermione snapped her fingers. "What about the Founders' Hearth in the Great Hall? It's said to burn with enchanted fire that never goes out."
Kai's eyes lit up. "Of course. The Archive isn't just hidden—it's tied to the Founders themselves."
---
The Founders' Hearth
The group slipped into the Great Hall after hours, their footsteps echoing in the empty space. The massive hearth at the far end of the room blazed with blue and gold flames, casting an ethereal glow.
"Alright," Kai said, stepping forward. "The riddle said to speak the name of the one who built the path. Any guesses?"
"Salazar Slytherin?" Theo suggested.
"Too obvious," Daphne replied. "It has to be more specific."
Hermione's brow furrowed in concentration. "What if it's not one of the Founders, but someone who worked for them? A builder or an enchanter?"
Kai thought for a moment before recalling something from the Thornwood archives. "Godric Gryffindor had an apprentice—Cedric the Artisan. He was known for crafting secret passages and chambers."
He stepped closer to the flames and spoke the name aloud. "Cedric the Artisan."
The fire roared to life, its color shifting to a deep crimson. The hearth split open, revealing a spiral staircase descending into darkness.
"Well," Blaise said, peering down. "That's not ominous at all."
Kai grinned. "Let's find out where it leads."
---
The Forbidden Archive
The staircase led to a massive underground chamber, its walls lined with ancient books, scrolls, and magical artifacts. The air buzzed with raw energy, and the temperature fluctuated wildly between icy and scorching.
"This place is incredible," Hermione whispered, her eyes wide. "It's like a library and a vault combined."
Kai's system immediately began analyzing the room. Spells hovered in the air, their power palpable. One artifact in particular caught his attention—a black crystal orb sitting on a pedestal.
"Don't touch that," Daphne warned, sensing the dark magic emanating from the orb.
Kai nodded but couldn't tear his eyes away. "It's a Chrono Nexus. A device that manipulates time. No wonder it's hidden here."
Harry pointed to a set of books bound in dragonhide. "Do you think these have the spells we need?"
"More than that," Kai said. "This Archive holds the secrets to defeating Voldemort once and for all."
---
The Price of Knowledge
As they explored, the room began to change. The walls shimmered, and a voice echoed through the chamber—a deep, ancient tone that seemed to come from everywhere at once.
"To claim the Archive's power, you must prove yourselves worthy. One among you must face the Trial of Truth."
Everyone exchanged uneasy glances.
"What's the Trial of Truth?" Harry asked.
"No idea," Kai admitted. "But I doubt it's pleasant."
"I'll do it," Harry said, stepping forward.
"No," Kai said firmly. "This is my mission. My responsibility. I'll take the trial."
The voice responded immediately. "So be it."
The chamber shifted again, and Kai found himself alone in a circular arena. Shadows coalesced into a figure that looked exactly like him, except its eyes glowed with a sinister red light.
"Great," Kai muttered. "A fight against my own shadow. How cliché."
