Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Shadows of the Past
Kai Thornwood stood in the Room of Requirement, watching Harry repeat the intricate wand movements for a newly acquired spell. The flickering light of the enchanted torches danced on the walls, illuminating the determination etched into Harry's face. The boy was improving—faster than Kai had hoped—but they were far from ready.
"Focus," Kai urged, his voice calm but firm. "The incantation is only half the battle. Feel the intent behind the spell. Picture the outcome in your mind."
Harry exhaled sharply, his frustration evident. "It's not as easy as you make it sound."
Kai smirked. "If it were easy, everyone would be doing it."
From the corner, Hermione spoke up, her tone curious. "Where did you even learn Somnare Vaporum? That spell isn't in any of our textbooks."
Kai hesitated for a moment, choosing his words carefully. "Let's just say my family's library is… extensive."
Hermione narrowed her eyes but didn't push further. She was too engrossed in scribbling notes on a parchment to notice the fleeting glance Kai exchanged with Daphne.
"Again," Kai said, motioning to Harry. "This time, commit."
Harry nodded and raised his wand. "Somnare Vaporum!"
A thick, shimmering mist poured from the tip of Harry's wand, filling the room. This time, it was steady, controlled. Kai nodded in approval. "Better. Keep practicing. We'll need every advantage we can get."

The Thornwood Legacy
Later that evening, Kai retreated to his private quarters in the Slytherin dormitories. The Thornwood crest gleamed on the wall above his desk, a stark reminder of the legacy he had inherited. He activated the magical lock on the door with a wave of his hand and summoned the system interface in his mind.

System Notification: Spell Archive Updated
New Spell Unlocked: Astral Shield (Origin: Unknown Universe)
New Perk: Combat Insight – Level 2

Kai frowned. The system had been steadily unlocking new abilities and spells, but their origins were becoming more obscure. It was as if the very fabric of the universes was responding to the timeline's changes. He couldn't shake the feeling that something—or someone—was watching him.
His thoughts were interrupted by a sharp knock on the door.
"Come in," Kai said, deactivating the interface.
Daphne stepped inside, her expression unreadable. "You've been pushing yourself too hard."
Kai leaned back in his chair, offering her a faint smile. "You say that like I have a choice."
She crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing. "You do. Delegation exists for a reason. You're not alone in this, Kai."
"I know that," he said, his tone softening. "But this is bigger than all of us. If I don't stay ahead, we lose."
Daphne stepped closer, placing a hand on his shoulder. "We're in this together. Don't forget that."
Kai met her gaze, a mix of gratitude and something deeper flickering in his eyes. "I won't."

Hogsmeade – Shadows Stir
The following weekend, Kai and his group ventured into Hogsmeade under the guise of a casual outing. Theo and Blaise were discussing their latest prank ideas, while Daphne stayed close to Kai, her wand tucked discreetly into her sleeve. The village was bustling with students and locals, but something felt off.
Kai's instincts prickled as they entered Zonko's Joke Shop. He scanned the crowd, his senses heightened. Then he saw them—a pair of cloaked figures lingering near the entrance, their faces obscured by shadow.
"Daphne," he murmured, his voice low. "We're being watched."
She followed his gaze and subtly adjusted her stance, ready for anything. "What do you want to do?"
"Split up," Kai said. "Blaise, Theo, and I will keep them occupied. You and Hermione take the back alley and circle around. If they're following us, we'll know."
Daphne hesitated, but a nod from Kai reassured her. She grabbed Hermione, who was busy marveling at a display of enchanted quills, and slipped out the back.

The Confrontation
The cloaked figures made their move as Kai had predicted, trailing him and his group down the cobblestone streets of Hogsmeade. Kai led them into a narrow alley, turning sharply to face them.
"Alright," he said, his wand already in his hand. "You've been following us long enough. Time to explain yourselves."
The figures didn't reply. Instead, they raised their wands, dark energy crackling at their fingertips.
Blaise groaned. "Why is it always dark energy?"
Theo grinned. "Keeps things interesting."
The fight was brutal and fast-paced. The attackers were skilled, their spells precise and deadly. Kai's system-assisted reflexes gave him an edge, but even he was struggling to keep up.
"Astral Shield!" Kai shouted, summoning a shimmering barrier just in time to deflect a powerful curse aimed at Blaise.
Theo countered with a blasting curse of his own, sending one of the attackers flying into a stack of barrels. "You alright over there, Thornwood?"
"Never better," Kai replied through gritted teeth. "Focus on the other one!"
The second attacker was relentless, their spells becoming more erratic as they pressed their advantage. But before they could land a decisive blow, Daphne and Hermione appeared behind them, wands raised.
"Petrificus Totalus!" Daphne shouted, and the attacker froze mid-spell, their body locking into place.
The alley fell silent, save for the sound of heavy breathing. Kai lowered his wand, his eyes scanning the scene for any remaining threats. "Good timing."
Daphne smirked. "You're welcome."

Interrogation
The captured attacker was brought to the Room of Requirement, where Kai and his group worked to uncover their motives. A series of truth spells revealed that they were working for a splinter faction of Death Eaters, one that was experimenting with forbidden magic to bring Voldemort back even faster.
"It's worse than I thought," Kai said, pacing the room. "The timeline isn't just accelerating. It's fracturing. They're trying to force events into motion."
Hermione frowned. "But why would they take such a risk? Voldemort's return was already inevitable."
"Desperation," Daphne said. "They must think they can seize power if they bring him back early."
Kai nodded. "Which means we're running out of time. We need to take the fight to them."

A New Alliance
After the interrogation, Kai met with Harry in the Room of Requirement. He laid out everything they had learned, sparing no details.
"We can't do this alone," Kai said. "We need to unite the houses. Slytherin, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff—all of us."
Harry looked skeptical but nodded slowly. "If we're going to win, we'll need everyone."
Kai extended a hand. "Then let's do this together."
Harry hesitated for only a moment before clasping Kai's hand firmly. "Together."
