Chapter 2: Chapter 2 I Do Not Want to Die
Abby thought she was going to die.
The moment the fearsome brood of venomous spider cubs were about to devour her, a blue bolt of lightning flashed in front of Abby's eyes. In the next second, the few venomous spider cubs that had rushed to the front were unexpectedly reduced to a heap of charred remains.
Several of the legs of the venomous spider-cubs were curled up together in an odd position, and some of them had even broken off and scattered to one side. From them, too, came a pungent, scorched smell, which, mingled with the stench of putrefaction already in the air, made one want to vomit.
The venomous spider cubs at the rear seemed stunned by the sudden change. Their original surging attack instantly stopped, one by one stopped in place, the hissing sound from their mouths also became urgent and panicked, as if they were communicating with each other about this horrible situation, but also as if they were hesitating whether they still wanted to continue to move forward or not.
At that moment a figure appeared in Abby's line of sight. The man was clad in full metal armor of gold and crimson, and had a silver oval-shaped flying-piece at each foot. It was as if he had fallen from the sky to stand between Abby and the swarm of venomous spider cubs.
As he confronts the venomous spider cubs, the powerful aura emanating from his body makes the air around him seem frozen. It was only to see that the man's eyes narrowed slightly, that the deep gaze betrayed a hint of ruthlessness, and that he did not hesitate to raise his right hand, five fingers slightly open, palm pointed at the swarm of venomous spider cubs. In an instant, a ball of orange flame, like a beast that has broken from its bonds, shot from his hand.
The firelight cast shadows on Abby's face as she saw the swarm of venomous spiders surrounded by flames, their writhing bodies hissing in agony, the smell of burning flesh instantly pervading the surroundings.
After confirming that the venomous spider cubs are trapped by the flames, the man slowly turns to face Abby. Through his metal mask, his green eyes were intent on Abby.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
Abby tried to open her mouth to speak, but her throat felt as though it were choked with something. Her lips merely wriggled helplessly, but she could make no sound. Her vision was suddenly blurred, and everything before her seemed to be enveloped in a thick mist. She felt weak, and her legs went limp.
Just at the moment when Abby was about to fall, a pair of strong hands lifted her off the ground. She leaned against the man's strong chest, and the coldness that emanated from the metal armor immediately enveloped her.
"Wake up." The man's deep voice rang in Abby's ears.
At this point, however, Abby had lost all consciousness, and the darkness, like a raging tide, soon enveloped her. It was as if her body had fallen into an abyss covered with frost, and the cold around continued to eat away at her, plunging her into endless darkness and coldness.
After a long time, a cold sound came into Abby's ears. "It has been detected that the host's life value is decreasing, does the host choose to bind the system?"
What? Who was talking to her?
Abby's body continued to fall into the endless abyss, while all she could see with her eyes was darkness. Where did that voice come from just now? Was she really going to die?
"One last reminder: does the host choose to bind the system?"
"Wait, what does that mean?" Abby blurted out into the air, "Why do you want me to bind the system?"
"If the host chooses to bind the system, the life value will be restored. If the host chooses not to bind the system, the life value will end."
Would I really not die if I chose to bind the system? Abby pondered, not understanding what the hell this system was all about.
"Note: The host's life value will end in 5 seconds. 5, 4, 3."
No, I do not want to die.
"I choose to bind the system." Abby yelled.
"Binding successful! "The emotionless voice said, "The system is restoring the host's life value."
Abby felt her body stop in mid-air, and then an invisible force was dragging Abby's body slowly upward, and that force was carrying Abby away from the darkness.
A blinding white light, as if it were the dawn, was thrown over Abby's head. The light, as if it had a life of its own, flowed slowly down, and became a warm current that was gently infused into her body. With the injection of warmth, Abby's already cold and stiff body gradually warmed up, and no longer felt the bone-chilling cold.
When Abby opened her eyes, she found herself lying in an unfamiliar room, with the pungent smell of disinfectant filling her nostrils.
Where was she? Was she dead or alive?
At that moment the door was pushed open into the room. A familiar and excited voice reached Abby's ears."Abby, you're finally awake."
