Another World Reincarnation Chronicle

Chapter 52

The leader Orc shouted as he saw the Evil Mana flowing in through the main gate.

I couldn’t understand his words, but through the ensuing scene, I could grasp a bit of their meaning.

Strange-looking Orcs began stepping forward in front of the Orcs wielding swords and spears.

They were adorned in thick robes, their bodies decorated with the remains of various monsters.

Each of those Orcs held a long staff, the ends of which were adorned with monster skulls.

“ka kuda!”

As the shaman-like Orcs waved their staffs and stomped their feet, a huge drumbeat resounded from the depths of the city.

Boom-! Boom-! Boom-! The grand sound that shook my whole body made my heart start pounding in sync with the beats.

The pure Mana flowing from the Orc shamans began to envelop everyone in the city.

My vision started to narrow and my breaths became ragged. Only then did I realize what the Orc shamans were doing.

They were using a specific magic to force everyone in the city into a state of frenzied excitement.

I wasn’t the only one affected by this magic. The Nightmare I was riding also seemed very excited, tossing its mane side to side and whipping its tail like a whip.

Thud-!

Boom-! Boom-! Boom-!

The drum sound grew louder, and emotions began to swell as if heralding a massive storm about to unfold.

The moment the Mana entwined with the drumbeat collided with the Evil Mana—

Kwang-!

A thunderous explosion burst forth as if a bomb had exploded, shattering the tightly closed main gate.

Simultaneously, the orc war cries erupted.

I couldn’t tell if it was the roar of the Gray Orcs or the Red Orcs rushing in through the broken gate.

The two orc roars were already mixed to the point where I couldn’t discern the enemy.

Accompanied by the pounding of my heart, the massive drum resonated with a thundering boom! That sound was the signal.

Both sides of Orcs charged at each other.

The earth-shaking sounds of feet and the roar that shook the air.

As the ringing of swords clashing jolted my senses back, the leader Orc standing next to me sprinted forward.

“kalse!!! toha!!!”

The leader Orc’s enormous roar naturally led the other Orcs, and several Gray Orcs followed close behind him.

Their rush toward the Red Orcs resembled moths to a flame, but there was no hesitation in their actions.

I turned the circle of my heart to calm my excitement. The intense thrill was a good feeling that made me forget fear and pain, but if I surrendered to excitement like the Orcs, my neck would be severed in an instant, given my lack of robust physique.

“Ugh…”

A white breath escaped me.

The cold chill began to cool my head, causing my thumping heart to start settling down.

As my narrowed vision began to readjust, I gained the luxury to survey the battlefield broadly.

The red blood of Orcs soaked the desolate land.

Even with severed arms, Orcs who had been numbed by fear and pain charged at their foes.

If they had no arms, they would use their legs; if no legs, then their mouths.

The bloodshot eyes of a heavily injured Orc floated aimlessly until they locked with my gaze.

The moment we recognized each other, the battle began.

The Nightmare I was riding moved with a stomp as if preparing for combat against the Orcs.

Right after that, an Orc began charging in.

The towering figure, looking about 2 meters tall, swung a massive great sword that matched his size.

The heavy blade tore through the air, producing a sound reminiscent of a swarm of bees buzzing.

Booom-!

The attack was heavy but lacked sharpness. The Nightmare easily sidestepped the assault.

With such a large and clumsy attack missing, the upper body of the Orc was exposed and vulnerable.

The Nightmare’s maneuvers were well-timed; it even slightly lowered its torso to create a position favorable for me to attack.

No special preparations were needed. The moment I registered the Orc’s intention, the Mana circle spun and drew out a Starlight Blade.

As the sword swung quickly, leaving a starlight afterimage, the Nightmare charged ahead.

Swaish-!

The moment a clear sensation transmitted to my fingertips, I had to prepare for the next attack.

There was no time to admire the fate of the Orc left behind.

Enemies surrounded me on all sides. The Red Orcs surged in with tremendous numbers relentlessly.

As I swung the sword, I hastily extracted new Mana.

The circle spinning from my heart began to shape Starlight Mana, causing ten orbs of starlight to appear around me, shooting towards the approaching Orcs.

Out of the ten shots, only four hit. My accuracy was terrible, but I managed to momentarily stymie the Orcs’ charge.

Swaish-!

A brief pause was all I needed. As I beheaded the closest charging Orc, I swung my sword at the opposite side.

Seemingly understanding my intention, the Nightmare immediately charged at a new Orc.

The Orc, hit in the face by four Magic Missiles, was bleeding with broken teeth.

I plunged my sword right into the center of that face.

Crack!

The Orc, now devoid of fear and pain, swung its weapon despite being attacked.

As its eyes, heavily veined due to excitement, lost focus, a sharp spear flew toward my chest.

With both hands gripping the sword and my waist bracing for attack, the Nightmare’s precarious forward leap left me in no position to evade.

I couldn’t dodge. It was a dire situation.

However, just before the spear reached my chest, a weak gust burst forth and veered the spear’s trajectory away.

Flick-!

The spear barely grazed my shoulder, leaving a deep gash on my ogre leather shoulder guard.

Had the attack landed directly on my chest, my ribs would have surely broken.

Recognizing my danger too late, the Nightmare kicked the Orc with a sword embedded in its head, sending it flying.

The overall situation was disadvantageous. The Gray Orcs were holding their own, but Red Orcs were streaming endlessly through the shattered main gate.

I frowned and pulled on the Nightmare’s bridle.

It understood my signal and swiftly ran up a building.

Once I reached a height where I could survey the battlefield in its entirety, I moved my gaze along the ominous Mana enveloping the bodies of the Red Orcs.

The Mana, seemingly a mixture of the Red Orc’s skin color and the Dark Mage’s Evil Mana, stretched out towards the gates.

At the end of that Mana stood an Orc dressed like the shamans of the Gray Orcs.

The one key difference was that he held a thick book in his left hand.

I frowned as I recalled the magic I could use.

I needed to get closer to deal with that one, but I lacked the confidence to handle the endless horde of Red Orcs surging in.

I needed new, new magic. Magic that could attack multiple enemies at once.

The starlight in my inner world began spinning rapidly. Each tiny star was a magician living in another world.

They showed me numerous forms of magic. Powerful, extravagant magic, yet utterly absurd.

But in my current state, I couldn’t use magic capable of destroying worlds or summoning planets drifting through space.

I needed something smaller in scale.

Something realistically actionable.

At that moment, a small spark of lightning leaped up in my inner world.

Fizzz-

The blue lightning triggered a chain reaction. The images of countless magicians appeared as I began imagining and formulating how to manipulate the magic.

What was needed was a vivid image; the most recent image of lightning seared into my mind was that of a Thunderbird appearing from dark clouds.

As the swirling Mana circle began transforming its properties, the violent noise of its rotation mixed with the sizzling sound of lightning.

Kiiiying-

In that moment, a massive bolt of lightning descended.

I always wondered why spellcasters in this world required such an extensive preparation time for magic.

I could only just now understand.

That lengthy preparation time was necessary to change the properties of the Mana they possessed.

Kurulul-!

A rough rotating noise only I could hear spread through my entire body.

Fizzz- Seven stars entwined in lightning appeared above the sword I held.

What I needed was an intense image, a strong notion of the phenomenon this magic would create.

Once the mystical intent filled the Mana, the starlight soon began to shift into blue lightning, revealing a singular magic in my hand that had finished its preparations.

“Chain Lightning.”

Kurulul!

The moment I murmured the name of the magic and outstretched my hand, a massive bolt of lightning shot forth.

The blue bolt consumed everything in its path, spreading chaotically.

Fizzizzle-!

In a single shot, more than ten Orcs fell. Though their lives weren’t extinguished, they collapsed to the ground, paralyzed.

I immediately unleashed another bolt of lightning.

Kaboom-!

The lightning that stretched from my fingertips again branched out, sending more than ten Orcs tumbling to the floor.

At this point, the surrounding Red Orcs began to take notice of me.

Though the orcs, stripped of their sense of fear, raced toward me, they could not reach me, enveloped in blue lightning.

Kaboom-!

This time, it came from both hands.

I unleashed lightning against the approaching Orcs on either side.

The long blue bolts illuminated the surroundings, causing the Orcs running on both sides to collapse as if caught mid-stride.

Some of the few Gray Orcs were caught in the chain reaction, but now was not the time to concern myself with such small details.

Breathing heavily and frowning, I assessed my remaining Mana; my chances for additional Chain Lightning were at best two or three.

“toha!!!”

At that moment, the leader Gray Orc bellowed fiercely.

The Gray Orcs, previously dazed, seemed to regain their senses at that command and began to race along the path I had created.

Leading his subordinates, the leader Orc gestured toward me.

Although the language didn’t connect, I could understand his intent through his gestures.

I rode the Nightmare and dashed after the Gray Orcs.
