Another World Reincarnation Chronicle

Chapter 212

Somewhere in the Aben Kingdom, there was a deep mountain village with a chief named Hans. A small, cute girl called that place her hometown.

What does it matter if I don’t know the exact address? I had the Guiding Star to show me the right path.

In the sleeping hours, under the gentle moonlight, I walked following the luminous starlight.

It seemed that Nightmare was excited to finally give me a ride after a long time, hopping along with a peculiar step.

“Is the runaway over now?”

“I might just say hello and leave right away.”

I chuckled slightly at the voices of Su and Shu beside me. When I left, I was alone, but now I was on my way back with my hometown friends.

“I wasn’t planning to leave immediately.”

“You didn’t say you wouldn’t leave.”

Ignoring Shu’s words, I stared ahead. The starlight glided smoothly along the long, well-maintained road.

As the cool night breeze gently tousled my honey-gold hair, faint starlights fell upon it.

If I continued walking like this, it would take at least a week to reach my hometown. I could fly there in no time if I hurried, but I didn’t really want to do that.

I began to slowly, very slowly, look back on the path I had traveled.

The grand Port City Hafen was a place filled with many memories. It was where I began my journey as an Adventurer and met Wizard Rain, stepping into the world of magic.

I couldn’t forget the unforgettable memories of the hunting party alongside the kingdom’s knights. The snowy mountains and the giant roar of the ogre. Everyone had cheered when we worked together to take down that giant.

In a mix of blood and sweat, and ice.

I reflected on those memories as I traversed backward down the path.

The first mission I received upon arriving at the Port City was as a merchant guard. Luckily, I met many good people, successfully hunted wolves, and received swordsmanship lessons that I had lacked.

To throw off the village’s pursuit, I began to use the name Seris instead of Emily. While I had grown more accustomed to that identity, once I returned home, Mom and Dad would call me Emily.

Days and nights repeated. Together with Su and Shu, I walked non-stop following the starlight.

Upon reaching around the seventh day since leaving the Mage Tower, I suddenly realized the surrounding scenery felt incredibly familiar.

The mountain path naturally formed by the passage of people. Rocks lined the ground in a long stretch.

“Seris. No, Emily.”

“Yeah?”

“What will you do first when you go back?”

I briefly pondered Shu’s question. What should I do once I go back? I figured I would spend a long time with Mom and Dad, right?

Thinking back, I remembered the stew Mom used to make. The delightful aroma wafting gently seemed to swirl around my nostrils.

“I want to eat first.”

I smacked my lips and gave a little shake to Nightmare’s bridle. Suddenly, Nightmare began bouncing lightly ahead.

My vision swayed up and down as I looked at the gradually narrowing forest path.

From the vast fields, right back to the narrow, dark, yet cozy forest path.

There were no longer cold snow and icy roads. Only the well-kept dirt path was thumped by Nightmare’s sturdy hooves.

The path that felt so long was rapidly coming to an end.

When I arrived at the village entrance, the sun hanging in the sky was setting and slipping beyond the mountain.

Warm strands of sunset light broke apart, sending up a hazy smoke. The smoke rose from the chimney of a small cabin built on one side of the village.

“Oh.”

At that moment, I heard a subtle gasp. Shifting my gaze towards the source of the sound, I spotted a middle-aged man standing at the village entrance.

The gatekeeper whose name I didn’t even know. If it weren’t for that gentleman, my adventures might not have even begun.

“Long time no see.”

What I couldn’t tell before, I could now recognize. The brilliant light the gatekeeper held. Even though he might have left the Paladin Order, he still held faith deep within his heart.

“Ah, man, those guys must be getting anxious…”

The gatekeeper shook his head with a cluck of his tongue. He slightly turned his head, gesturing with his chin towards the small cabin.

“Go on. It seems dinner is being prepared.”

The gatekeeper asked nothing. Even though my sword and the horse I rode on must have seemed suspicious.

He always wore the same annoyed expression as he returned to his post.

“Shall we head home too?”

“Ah, yeah.”

Su and Shu departed just like that. Of course, it was only to the places in sight. The distance between Shu and Su’s house and our home was merely about a hundred steps.

“Let’s go.”

I pulled on Nightmare’s bridle and walked slowly. With each clopping sound of hooves, the voices of the villagers echoed.

“That, that girl is…?”

“Isn’t that Emilia…?”

“What? Emilia is back?”

“What does that mean?”

“I don’t know, go ask.”

It seemed tonight’s dinner was stew. The familiar scent of stew wafted even through the closed door, stirring my appetite.

Arriving in front of my house, I gently stroked Nightmare’s mane. Instantly, he shrank in size.

The little Nightmare, now the size of a small puppy, jumped up in place and burrowed into my arms.

Taking a deep breath, I pulled the door. As the firmly shut door opened, I shouted.

“I’m home!”

In the brightest, cutest voice possible. So I wouldn’t get scolded.

*

“Alright, that’s it.”

“Ah!”

The small girl with long, water-colored hair let out a soft sound at the sudden interruption. Her hand, raised high, moved frantically as she tried to retrieve the thing that had been snatched away, but the adult who took the book from her hands refused to return it.

“It’s bedtime now.”

“But I haven’t finished yet!”

Su smiled faintly as she looked down at her daughter. Who could she take after to be so difficult to handle? As she thought of that, she shook her head, recalling her own childhood self.

Indeed, this little girl was definitely her daughter.

“If you don’t sleep now, you won’t grow tall?”

“But…”

“Sarah.”

“Y-yes…”

Sarah puffed her cheeks and turned her head away. It was a silent pout, but it didn’t work on Su.

Eventually, the book Sarah was reading was placed high on a shelf, out of her reach.

As time passed, the night deepened. Sarah was a girl who never gave up. On a night when everyone was asleep, Sarah, not wanting to sleep alone, got up and began to tiptoe around.

What she needed was a lightweight wooden chair that would help her reach.

Everything she needed has gathered.

Sarah climbed up onto the small wooden chair and successfully got the book that was placed on the shelf.

[Otherworld Transcendence Record]

Sarah was curious about the backstory she hadn’t read yet. The small girl smiled happily while cradling the large book.

Next, Sarah headed toward the cluttered storage room filled with various items. She remembered that her mom used to keep a lantern in there that she used when she was an adventurer.

How long had it been? Sarah, fidgeting with her hands and feet, could finally grasp what she desired.

Tap-tap-

As Sarah’s little finger gently tapped on the lantern, a soft light began to seep out from within.

It wasn’t bright, but it was enough to read the text close to it if a book were placed right in front of it.

Relying on the dim light, Sarah began to read the book again.

In the Starlight, Seris spent happy times with her family. Not as Seris, but as the ordinary mountain village girl Emily.

She helped her mom prepare meals and went hunting alongside her dad to catch game instead.

However, there were things that disrupted Emily’s happy life. Those were the boys from the mountain village.

To them, Emily was nothing but an ordinary girl who knew a bit of swordsmanship, so they didn’t hesitate.

The day after Emily returned to her hometown, the boys began their earnest courtship. They fought over the小girl and ventured deep into the mountain to pick rare flowers.

But no one could move Emily’s heart.

Was it because of the boys’ vigor? Or was it the wanderlust she always had?

On the one-week mark, she quietly left again, just like before, with only a simple note left behind.

[I’m leaving to find my dreams. I’ll visit often.]

It wasn’t only Emily that disappeared. Su and Shu, the twin swordsmen with water-colored hair, also vanished at the same time.

Emily became Seris again. To act as an Adventurer, as the Starlight.

Seris’ adventure has not ended. To fulfill her dreams of the past, she took Su and Shu aboard the Airship.

The world is vast. Seris set off once more to explore that wide world.

The great Airship emits mana and disappears beyond the sky.

“Wow…”

Sarah clutched her racing heart. Thump-thump, it was the moment when the light of adventure was engraved in the heart of a girl whose world had been all about home and village.

That light was enchantingly amazing.

Sarah’s gaze slowly moved towards the splendid sword hung on the wall.

A blurred dragon shape glinted along the long sword’s blade. Entranced, Sarah approached the sword.

She felt an inexplicable cool chill.
