Chapter 125: Chapter 116: Zaboru's Ninja Gaiden, Gun-Nac, and Metroid
Wednesday, December 18, 1991
Zaboru kinda forget about his birthday back then , so Only his family congratulate him at his birthday at 15 December, thinking about that Zaboru smile because that all he want to be honest, Big and huge birthday party aren't exactly his style
Now in ZAGE offices , Zaboru meticulously performed the final checks on his soon-to-be-released games. This Saturday, three major titles would hit the market: Ninja Gaiden, Gun-Nac, and Metroid. Each had undergone significant improvements under his guidance, ensuring that these games would surpass the originals in quality and gameplay.
The first game, Ninja Gaiden, was a particularly ambitious project. In his previous life, Ninja Gaiden had multiple versions: an arcade edition that focused heavily on action, an NES version that provided a gripping storyline and served as the main timeline, and a Sega Master System version known for its challenging gameplay. Instead of choosing between them, Zaboru decided to take the best aspects from each. The Ninja Gaiden for ZAGE's console would follow the NES storyline while incorporating the refined gameplay and graphical improvements of the Master System version.
As always, he couldn't resist inserting his signature touch—Zabo-man, though the details of his role remained a secret for now. Additionally, he created a hidden boss battle, much like he had done in Legend of Akechi, to reward players willing to explore beyond the main path. To add a unique flair, he slightly altered Ryu Hayabusa's design, maintaining his signature purple ninja attire but embedding intricate dragon engravings on his chest armor. He even included a subtle reference to Legend of Akechi within the game's story, further expanding the interconnected world of his games.
Next on the list was Gun-Nac. Unlike Ninja Gaiden, this title required fewer changes, as the original game was already solid. However, Zaboru still made improvements. He decided to keep the Gun-Nac name but redesigned the box art. Instead of the original, somewhat comedic depiction of spaceships shooting at giant carrots, the new artwork showcased a spaceship locked in battle against robotic rabbits, making the game look more appealing and serious to a wider audience , Ayumi actually pissed how Zaboru make the cover shooting Rabbit but he just shrugs and said There are evil rabbits in this world!. Gameplay-wise, he made subtle refinements, adding smoother controls and an plenty of new power up for the players. Of course, he couldn't resist adding a secret boss and yet another Zabo-man cameo, ensuring continuity across his expanding library of titles.
Finally, there was Metroid. The game retained much of its original brilliance, but Zaboru wanted to push it a step further. He tweaked the platforming mechanics for more fluid movement and fine-tuned enemy behaviors to provide a greater challenge while maintaining fairness. One of his biggest additions was the ability to play as Zero Suit Samus—though unlocking her required completing a hidden challenge. This addition would surprise players and reward dedicated fans willing to explore beyond the conventional experience.
After going through his final checklist, Zaboru leaned back and smirked. "These games are ready to ship. I hope they make a blast on release day," he murmured to himself. With that, he gathered his development team and began introducing them to the finalized versions. The excitement in the room was palpable—ZAGE was about to make history once again.
Once he wrapped up the presentation, he shifted gears to discuss the upcoming third-party game releases and his 2 new games. January would mark the first time ZAGE would publish a third-party title, and it just so happened that the debut game was Karate Bunny, developed by none other than his girlfriend, Ayumi. She had already handed over the final version of the game, and it was ready for distribution.
Zaboru had played Karate Bunny several times and found it to be a solid and enjoyable game. While it wasn't groundbreaking, it had a distinct charm. More importantly, it served as a milestone for Ayumi as a game developer, and Zaboru was proud of her accomplishment. He knew that as she gained more experience, her future projects would only get better.
During their discussion, Ayumi shared another surprising piece of news: her older brother, Akechi, had begun assembling his own game development team. Zaboru raised an eyebrow at this revelation. Akechi had never shown much interest in game development before, though he had always been a smart and resourceful individual. He lacked technical prowess, but with his financial resources, he could certainly hire the right people to bring his vision to life , and as usual Zaboru can`t really read Akechi mind.
Zaboru couldn't help but grin. "So Akechi-san wants to make a game, huh? This should be interesting." He was genuinely curious to see what Akechi's team would produce. More than that, he was thrilled by the prospect of seeing more independent developers enter the market. The video game industry was still in its early stages, and competition would only push everyone to create better games.
As Zaboru wrapped up his day, he felt a deep sense of accomplishment. This Saturday, Ninja Gaiden, Gun-Nac, and Metroid would launch, marking another step forward for ZAGE. Meanwhile, January would bring Karate Bunny , Z-man , SpongeBob and possibly even a game from Akechi's newly-formed team will be ready and submitted to him. The industry was evolving rapidly, and Zaboru was right at the center of it all.
One thing was certain: the world of gaming was about to change, and ZAGE was leading the charge.
