chapter 30
30 – The Prophecy of Calleas
Could it be a book neglected and shoved into some corner of a library?
The prophecy of Kallias was so crumbled and worn that it made one wonder.
Despite it being stored in a dry place and protected by magic and blessings, it was man’s touch rather than the passage of time that proved more daunting.
The book was so ancient because it bore the traces of countless individuals.
Just as Caelius was now calmly examining the contents of the ancient prophecy, so too must our ancestors have read and reread this distant past and future countless times.
“Very… interesting.”
How could all this have been prophesied and all of it come true?
It would be dismissed as nonsense if anyone were to read it.
But the history that has passed, already documented, proves it.
The more one reads, the harder it becomes to believe as only incredible stories are outlined.
Year XXX, Month X
Someone is hurt by the fury of the dragon.
Year ○○○○, Month ○
A giant squid covers the sky of the continent.
Year □□□□, Month □
A cult religion brings a major threat to the continent.
Year ◇◇◇◇, Month ◇
A major gambling event occurs, shaking the economy of the continent.
….
..
.
Surely, our ancestors must have read and reread it until the pages became worn.
She spread open Kallias’s prophecy book on one side of the desk, pulling out another book.
– Journal of Prophecies –
It was another book, in a relatively better condition.
This journal, assumed to be decided after Kallias’ prophecy, was also a relic.
‘Our other ancestors must have had a lot on their minds too.’
The diary, containing the stories of the ancestors who read the prophecies, was filled with their worries.
– At first, we found it hard to believe Kallias’s Prophecies.
– The revelations seemed so shocking that we thought there could be mistakes, thinking it was a joke or misunderstanding.
– We were half-hearted at first, but the moment dozens of details lined up, we realized it was not a fraud.
The script was filled with profound fear about the prophecy.
─Is she a god who can control the world? Or has she merely glimpsed the future?
─Knowing the future is not permitted to us. It would be blasphemy against the gods.
─Kallias may have been our ancestor, but we are nothing more than felons. Do we have the right to hold the prophecy?
─We were always in a dilemma.
─Should we burn this book? Or should we pass it on to future generations? After much contemplation, we decided to pass it on.
─However, having read the grave contents of the distant future beforehand, we made a decision.
─To cast a magic spell concealing the content of the prophecy.
─We believe that it was the right decision for future generations.
What had they seen?
What they claimed to have seen could have been a past that was already gone.
However, the ambiguously and deviously written content interfered with her conjecture.
─With the help of the Magicians and the Clerks, we were able to cast magic and blessings.
─We believe our choice was correct.
─We cannot be sure that a future of despair awaits us, but it is certainly shocking.
─It was a natural choice given the growing numbers of household members stressed about the uncertain future.
Thus, Kallias’s prophecy was manipulated to prevent knowledge of the distant future.
There was also a mention of countless debates about the prophecy.
─We fought again this time.
─Whenever the prophecy’s content was enigmatic, a new viewpoint emerged, aside from fighting over whether the prophecy was either disastrous or hopeful.
─If we interfere with the prophecy, will it still come true?
─If we, who know the prophecy, interfere, wouldn’t the prophecy become meaningless?
─We decided to try to find out the answer to this proposal.
Afterward, a sentence written in hasty handwriting followed the disrupted prose.
─We endeavored to twist the prophecy that foretold the Duke’s murder.
─Assassinations, poisonings, killings, etc. We blocked all possible methods.
─Despite this, those intending to assassinate came. With robust defenses and scale, we believed we had succeeded.
─Everything went smoothly. We succeeded in executing all the assassins. However, when the last assassin pulled his blinded arrow, we couldn’t believe it.
─Suddenly, the flow of magic warped, and the protective spell disappeared. The arrow broke through the glass window and struck the Duke’s head in that gap.
─How could such a thing happen?
─Can this be chalked up to coincidence?
─We didn’t stop here. We tried again next time.
─We discovered news about the death of a leading trader in a massive accident.
─We hoped he would cooperate, telling him the prophecy to prevent his death.
─He was furious about his future, but finally, he took our hands.
─Accident? I wonder how he dies. To prevent any accident, we took him into the desert.
─We protected him with magic so he would not die in the barren desert.
─We magically hardened the ground to prevent poisonous scorpions from biting him, protecting him with our magic.
─We thought there was no way for him to die, in our opinion.
─With plenty of food and water, we checked the surroundings to prevent him from being struck by hail or a fall of tortoises from the sky.
─We thought we could twist the prophecy this time.
─Until a lightning struck him from the clear sky and killed him from a heart attack.
─He died from lightning. It felt like the sky refused to let him live.
─After a few tries, we came to a conclusion.
─Prophecy happens in some form, though it can be twisted or delayed.
─We realized the dreadful truth that the prophecy is written ambiguously and generally because of this aspect.
─If there is someone among our descendants who tries to bend the prophecy, I will encourage them.
─We failed.
The record ended here.
Celias laid his hand on the prophecy.
The magic and blessings on the prophecy were things of the past. They were crude and simple in structure.
Unless a certain date arrives, one cannot turn the page as the characters will disappear magically.
If she wanted, she could invest time and undo the magic.
But she did not do so.
She didn’t want to necessarily know the distant future.
**** year, * month
The ingénue of the gallery is dead.
She confirmed the most recent prophecy.
Perhaps, the ingénue dies. The prophecy says so.
So when Nerisa talked about the ingénue, Celias could only give a bitter smile.
Joodak’s death was certain, so her question was pointless.
Rustling.
She read the prophecy written on the very first page.
─The final prophecy
─The continent will
Why did the ancestor Kalias put the final prophecy at the beginning?
The prophecy, though dateless, was written boldly.
Almost as if it were final.
“What will happen?”
What did our ancestor Kalias exactly see?
But as life goes on, we’ll eventually approach that statement.
Shelias put the prophecy and the records of the ancestors back in the drawer.
‘With Joodak’s death, everything in the gallery will turn to ashes.’
The prophecy will come true. This time as well.

Today, the gallery was peaceful as always.
It was noisy with those busy with their own conversations and those busy listening to others.
Especially those who only talk about themselves.
They write diligently, even if it means giving up on life.
What could be different for the moderator?
The habit of diligent writing was something they couldn’t give up either.
─Joodak

I guess it was free to leave too. Lol
That was the typical appearance of the gallery.
But was there something in the gallery’s constant posts?
The eyes of someone who was watching the gallery shone in the dark.
“Aha─ I’ve found it─ “
