Ch77 - Past Events

Chapter 17: Past Events

Taichi, feeling confused, called out to the boss, who was watching the direction Koroglis had run off to.

“Looks like you know something… care to share?”

“It’s nothing big, kyuu,” the boss replied.

Even so, the boss began talking about Koroglis.

Mount Korogri is a relatively peaceful mountain. While there are strong monsters, you won’t be attacked as long as you don’t approach the summit. There’s plenty of acorns to eat, and the water is clean.

“Today’s acorns are delicious, kyuu,” thought the boss as he ate an acorn atop a tree.

That’s when the disturbance began. The mountain became uneasy, and the monsters and animals started to act wary, retreating into their nests.

(This feeling… there’s a strong monster here, kyuu!)

Curious about what was happening to the peaceful mountain, the boss quickly climbed to the top of a tall tree and looked down. That’s when he saw it—an eerie, red-black wolf attacking the other monsters.

“Is that… a wolf variant, kyuu!?”

Even against a normal wolf, the Koroglis would stand no chance. Against a variant, they were even more helpless. If spotted, they would surely be killed. Some Koroglis had already fallen.

“A wolf variant is here, kyuu! Everyone, flee to the nests, kyuu!”

“Mokyuu!!” responded the other Koroglis, quickly retreating into their nests.

However, one Koroglis was lagging behind. It was slower and less athletic compared to the others. To make matters worse, it tripped.

“Kyu~”

“Weakling!”

The boss shouted in panic, but the Koroglis had twisted its ankle and couldn’t move. The wolf variant was about to attack.

Just as it seemed too late, the roar of a Flowerbear echoed through the forest.

The Flowerbear charged forward, leaping at the wolf variant. It appeared the bear had come to save the Koroglis.

Despite being a variant, the wolf was still no match for the Flowerbear, a creature with dominant strength on this mountain.

The Flowerbear swiftly defeated the wolf variant.

“Th-thank you, kyuu! You saved me, kyuu!”

“…Grr,” growled the Flowerbear, saying nothing as it began climbing up the mountain.

Watching this, the injured Koroglis made a decision.

“Hey! Weakling, don’t go! The mountain beyond that point is dangerous, kyuu!”

Ignoring the boss’s desperate warning, the Koroglis chased after the Flowerbear.

“That Flowerbear back then was the one without bees, the Bee-less Flowerbear, kyuu!” the boss explained.

Since that day, the Koroglis had stayed with the Flowerbear, most likely out of gratitude for being saved.

“I see… after hearing that, I’m worried not just about Koroglis, but also about the Flowerbear,” Taichi said.

Considering the Flowerbear had saved Koroglis from the wolf variant, Taichi assumed it was a kind-hearted creature. He grew anxious, feeling the need to find it quickly. If it unintentionally hurt someone, other adventurers would be called in, and it would inevitably be hunted down.

(Before that happens, I have to find it and hear its side of the story.)

Usually, Taichi relied heavily on Luke, but this time, he was determined to step up himself. Not that he intended to fight, though.

“—[Search: Flowerbear]!”

He used the skill granted to him by the Cat God, [Search: Monster]. When he specified a monster, it created a map of the surrounding area showing the target’s location.

As Taichi activated the skill, the area around him became visible, like a map. This way, he could locate the Flowerbear and Koroglis.

“There are quite a few Flowerbears… but, ah! There’s one near the base of the mountain! That must be the Bee-less Flowerbear!”

It was a bit far, but with Luke’s speed, they could catch up quickly.

“Alright, let’s go! Luke, Cerberus, boss—”

As Taichi called out to them, the other Koroglis gathered around the boss.

“Is the Flowerbear going to attack, kyuu?”

“Will we be okay, kyuu?”

“No worries! Lord Luke is strong, so even if the Flowerbear attacks, it’ll be an easy victory, kyuu!”

The boss stood tall and explained that there was nothing to fear.

(As expected of the boss of Mount Korogri, he’s really trusted by the others.)

“Oops, sorry for keeping you waiting, kyuu! Let’s hurry to the Flowerbear, kyuu!”

“Right! Let’s go, Luke, Cerberus!”

“Aye.”

“Alright!” came the unified response.

With the search skill active, Taichi leapt onto Luke’s back and took off running.
