Ch33 - Wanting to Go to the Neighboring Country!

Chapter 33: Wanting to Go to the Neighboring Country!

“Luke, Luke!!”

“What is it? I was having such a good nap…”

When Taichi called out Luke’s name and came back home, Luke looked grumpy but was wagging his tail happily, clearly pleased to be the first one Taichi called out to.

Taichi wanted to smile at this, but he kept his mouth shut to avoid getting scolded by Luke.

“Actually, I want to go to the neighboring country.”

“Neighboring country? You mean the Azern Kingdom?”

“You know about it?”

As Taichi sat down next to Luke to explain, Kerberos hopped onto his lap, clearly interested in the conversation.

Noticing the unusual atmosphere, the Berry Rabbits gathered around, turning Taichi’s surroundings into a fluffy haven.

(Is this heaven…?)

“What for?”

Kerberos, sitting on Taichi’s lap, asked with curiosity. Taichi eagerly started explaining.

“I want to tame a Forest Cat that lives in the forest of that neighboring country—Azern Kingdom.”

“Are you going to add a new member to the group?”

Noru, who was a bit lonely, perked up at the news.

(Good, it seems they don’t mind.)

Relieved, Taichi continued, “They said it would take about a month to get there by carriage.”

“A month? Hmph, horses that cater to humans are indeed slow! If it’s a noble Fenrir like me, we’d get there in no time!”

“You’re amazing, Luke.”

Though Taichi thought Luke was being a bit harsh about horses, he praised him anyway. Luke puffed up with pride at the compliment.

“If Taichi insists, I suppose I could carry you on my back!”

Taichi had planned to flatter Luke into agreeing to take him to the Azern Kingdom, but Luke offered on his own.

Though Luke acted as if it were a bother, his tail wagged vigorously, which was incredibly cute.

Taichi grinned at Luke, but was met with a disapproving stare.

“Eh! No, it’s just that you’re willing to take me. I’m so happy!”

“I-I see? Hmph.”

Luke’s cheeks softened slightly, showing he was pleased to be appreciated.

Kerberos, perhaps feeling left out, piped up, “I want to go too!”

“You can ride on my back!”

“Hey, this is a conversation between Taichi and me!”

“Ehh!”

When Luke scolded Kerberos for butting in, Kerberos puffed up his cheeks in displeasure.

“You lost to me, so you should obey!”

“Grrr!”

“That’s a cruelly reasonable argument!!”

“I’ll be lonely if left behind…”

(Survival of the fittest…)

It seemed Luke had established a hierarchy by defeating Kerberos in a fight. However, Taichi had tamed Kerberos before that was resolved.

Taichi considered his options, looking at Kerberos.

(I want to take him, but…)

This would leave the Berry Rabbits alone, which wouldn’t be ideal.

(Pino, Chloro, and Noru should be able to manage the Berry Rabbits.)

So, Taichi decided to ask them to stay behind and take care of the Berry Rabbits while he was away. It would be difficult to move everyone, and he planned to bring back a cute Forest Cat.

“Pino, Chloro, Noru, I need you to look after the Berry Rabbits while Luke and I are away. I’m relying on you since no one else can do it.”

“Eh!”

“You’re relying on us…?”

Kerberos was thrilled to be trusted by Taichi, wagging his tail so energetically that Taichi couldn’t help but touch it.

“Hehe, fluffy, right?”

“Absolutely!!”

Taichi nodded vigorously at Kerberos, who continued to wag his tail, encouraging Taichi to keep petting. He felt overwhelmed by the fluffiness.

(Ahh, I just want to be buried in fluff…)

As Taichi was lost in his desire to be surrounded by fluff, Luke’s tail hit his face with a thump.

“Stop being so smitten! It’s disgraceful!”

“Oh, right…”

Taichi reflexively pressed his lips together and sat up straight.

“Don’t get so excited just because you were entrusted with the task! You should be able to handle it!”

“Y-Yes, we’ll do our best!”

“Leave it to us!!”

“We’ll do our best!”

At Luke’s scolding, Kerberos straightened up and sat properly, resembling a disciplined army.

But even that looked cute with the fluffiness involved.

“Hmph, if you understand, then that’s good! While I’m gone with Taichi, protect this house!”

“““Roger!”””

Though the plan was set, preparing food for a long absence would be challenging. It wasn’t practical to just leave food and water for an extended period.

(I wonder if I can hire someone for a short-term job?)
