Chapter 3: First Taming

The breeze brushed against his cheeks, and something soft touched his face. Struggling against the desire to continue sleeping, Taichi slowly opened his eyes.

The deadline was imminent, so he needed to finish his work quickly—he reminded himself.

“…Hmm?”

However, when he opened his eyes, he found himself in a vast forest.

“Oh, right… I met the Cat God.”

He recalled that he had died and been transported to another world.

“So this is the new world…”

He would have preferred to be sent to a town rather than a forest, but since he had already received so much help, he decided not to ask for more.

He knew well from dealing with demanding salespeople that complaining about things beyond his control was futile.

“Alright, first, let’s check the current situation. The Cat God said this world uses magic, and I was supposed to become a Tamer.”

He thought he should be able to check his skills and abilities.

As Taichi said “Status Open,” a window-like display showing his status appeared before him.

Taichi was astonished by the numerous skills and tilted his head, confused about his occupation.

“What is this ‘Beloved by the Fluffy Ones’…? I was supposed to become a Tamer…”

He wondered if there had been some mistake, but the occupational skills seemed to indicate that he was indeed a Tamer. He could tame and control monsters, and he had various support skills as well.

“And what’s with the infinite levels…”

This seemed like it would make him invincible. Taichi chuckled at the thought, imagining he could easily tame a dragon with his infinite Taming level. The possibilities were astounding.

(But it feels like I’m setting up a flag for trouble…)

Just as Taichi thought this, he heard a rustling noise behind him.

“Huh?”

He couldn’t believe he was already encountering something typical of a new world scenario. However, it wasn’t certain yet if a dragon had appeared.

Moreover, dragons were rare and hard to find, though some games featured them frequently—a detail Taichi chose not to dwell on.

Feeling a cold sweat on his back, he turned around to find a dragon with red scales.

He gasped.

The dragon was about five meters long, which might be considered large or small for a dragon, perhaps it was a young dragon.

But that wasn’t the issue.

“I-I-I need to escape…!!”

Taichi’s body was frozen, unable to move as he wished. To the dragon, he might look like a tasty snack. As he was gripped by fear, the dragon opened its mouth wide and breathed fire.

“Gyaruruu!”

With a loud roar, the fire missed Taichi and exploded the trees behind him.

“Yikes…”

(Escape—no, since dragons are monsters, maybe I should tame it…?)

That seemed like a good plan.

—But what should he do with a dragon once tamed? His mind was in chaos. After all, a large monster like that would attract attention and might make running a cat café impossible.

Suddenly, a white figure leaped in front of him.

“What…!?”

Before he could voice his surprise, the white figure had bitten the dragon’s neck.

It was a dog-like monster with golden-tinted white fur. Its fluffy fur looked soft, but its sharp eyes made it seem intimidating. It was about two meters long.

“Wow!”

The white dog monster then used its sharp claws to attack the dragon and quickly defeated it.

“…Huh.”

As Taichi let out a sigh of relief, the white dog monster ran towards him. Assuming it might consider him the next prey, Taichi found himself shouting without realizing it.
