Ch27 - Midnight Fluffiness
Chapter 27: Midnight Fluffiness
The solitary Fenrir, Luke, had declared that he would not lose to a mere Cerberus. With that confidence, he took Taichi and dashed into the night forest.
As they sped along, Taichi called out from Luke’s back, “Are you sure this is safe? I really don’t want you getting hurt!”
“There’s no way I’ll get hurt! A Cerberus is just a piece of cake!” Luke responded with a grin, clearly enjoying the exercise.
Thanks to Luke’s speed, they quickly arrived at the forest where the Cerberus was said to be. The area felt eerie and ominous, possibly because of the pre-existing warning about the Cerberus.
Luke sniffed the air and pointed in the direction of the Cerberus. “It’s that way.”
“Can you really pinpoint it?” Taichi asked.
“Yes, it has a strong presence! It might even sense me approaching,” Luke replied.
Taichi’s anxiety spiked at the thought of the Cerberus getting the jump on them.
Despite Taichi’s growing concern, Luke continued through the forest without a hint of worry.
“Oh, I remember now… the adventurers were supposed to be keeping watch,” Taichi said.
“Hmm? Oh, you mean those guys?” Luke glanced ahead, revealing a faint outline of the ruins and a party of adventurers hidden among the trees.
“So, they are the ones keeping watch?” Taichi mused.
He lowered his voice to avoid detection. “Isn’t it dangerous if they spot us?”
Luke didn’t seem to be worried. “Just make sure you watch me shine!”
“Wait, what?” Taichi was stunned as Luke placed him atop a tree branch for safety and then let out a loud bark, charging forward.
The moment Luke announced their presence, the Cerberus emerged from the ruins. The atmosphere instantly thickened with tension.
Taichi was struck by the sight of the enormous black beast with three heads, far larger than Luke. It was like a monster straight out of a fantasy comic or game.
“Whoa!” Taichi exclaimed.
“What’s happening?” one of the adventurers shouted. “Report to the guild immediately!”
The sudden appearance of the disaster-level monster caused panic among the adventurers. They scrambled to contact the guild, while two of them lay unconscious from the impact of debris and magic fallout.
Taichi observed the scene with a mix of awe and concern. Luke and the Cerberus were engaged in a fierce battle, with Luke roaring and the Cerberus retaliating with dark magic.
Despite Taichi’s initial assumption that Luke would easily defeat the Cerberus, it was turning out to be a close contest.
“What happens when this fight ends?” Taichi wondered, thinking about whether Luke would devour the Cerberus as he did with other dragons.
“Even though they are both in the dog category?”
He was intrigued, especially since the Cerberus appeared quite fluffy.
“Upon closer inspection, that Cerberus… looks pretty fluffy too.”
The thought of how nice it would be to touch such a creature sparked Taichi’s curiosity.
So, driven by his interest, Taichi decided to use his [Taming] skill.
