Ch22 - Considering Employee Benefits for Mofumofu Café

Chapter 22: Considering Employee Benefits for Mofumofu Café

Taichi’s “Mofumofu Café” operates with a two-day weekend.

Today being a day off, he’s relaxing and playing with Luke and the Berry Rabbits.

“Hey, Luke,” Taichi says.

“Hmm? What’s up?”

“I’m thinking about improving the conditions for you and the Berry Rabbits. Do you have any requests or suggestions?”

“Hmm… I appreciate your intent to improve things for us!”

Luke wags his tail vigorously and says, “The most important things are a good meal and a space for exercise.”

“Got it. But don’t get me wrong,” Luke adds, “The most important thing is this bead cushion.”

Even if the location changes, Luke has his designated bead cushion that he carries around. The Berry Rabbits understand it’s for Luke alone and don’t use it.

“Exercise… Do the Berry Rabbits need to exercise outside, too?” Taichi asks.

“Mii?” The Berry Rabbits roll around on the sofa and run around the room, showing they enjoy the indoor environment with food and shelter from the rain.

Taichi considers that they might have had frightening experiences outside, such as being targeted by adventurers.

“If they’re happy with the indoor environment, that’s fine,” he decides.

“How about Luke running in the backyard?”

“Do you think a noble like me would be satisfied with such a small yard? Take me on a hunt occasionally.”

“Eh!? Hunting as exercise… You really are a Fenrir. But moving around is important. Alright, I’ll make time to go hunting with you regularly.”

Luke’s tail spins like a propeller, showing his delight at the prospect of Taichi joining him for hunting.

(This tsundere is so cute!)

“Alright, then… Next is ‘food.'”

Currently, Taichi gives fruits, vegetables, and meat bought from the market. He could possibly make something with his skills, but getting the materials is challenging.

Taichi heads to the kitchen to think about their diet. He gives strawberries and carrots to the Berry Rabbits and meat to Luke, though Luke eats almost anything.

“It would be great if I could make something with strawberries and carrots. [Snack Cooking]”

The materials are insufficient for cooking. If you have strawberries, carrots, Moonlight Grass, flour, and eggs, you can make ‘Rabbit Cookies.’

This could be a good treat to sell. However, he doesn’t know what Moonlight Grass is. Even though he used identification at the market, he didn’t find it.

“Is it something special…?”

He suddenly thinks it might be worth asking at the Tamer Guild. He realizes he hasn’t even told Shalti about opening the café.

(I forgot because I was so busy…)

So, Taichi quickly gets ready and heads to the Tamer Guild with Luke.

“Ah, Taichi-san!! I was worried since you haven’t been around lately!”

“Sorry about that…”

Entering the usually empty Tamer Guild, Taichi sees Shalti looking bored at the counter and puffing her cheeks.

“So, today… it looks like there’s no one here?”

“Hmm?”

Taichi tilts his head, noticing Shalti looking around him.

“Luke is here, though.”

Wow

Only Taichi understands Luke’s words, which translate to, “Don’t you see the noble me? Humans are hopeless!”

“No, it’s a newly tamed monster! I was really surprised when ten Berry Rabbits came all at once…”

“Ah…”

Shalti seems wary of another surprise, causing Taichi to smile wryly and shake his head.

“No, today I came to ask about something and to let you know about the café opening. We’re closed until tomorrow because of the two-day weekend.”

“Congratulations! I’m glad to hear about it as your assigned receptionist!”

(Shalti was my assigned person…)

“Please visit when you have time.”

“Yes!”

Having successfully informed Shalti about the café opening, Taichi feels relieved and shifts to the main topic, which is Moonlight Grass.

“By the way, I want to know where I can get Moonlight Grass. I’m not sure where to find it.”

“Moonlight Grass, you say.”

It turns out it’s a common item. Shalti quickly nods and brings out a book.

Flipping through the pages, she stops at one showing a pale green plant with white flowers.

“This is Moonlight Grass. It can only be gathered at midnight when the moon is out.”

“Midnight…?”

Even with Luke around, wandering at night in a world with monsters seems daunting.

(This world doesn’t have streetlights…)

It’s a forest after all.

While Taichi is pondering, Shalti continues, “If you want to buy it—”

“Oh, is it for sale?”

“Of course.”

(Then my searching must have been lacking. I didn’t find any stores selling it.)

“Moonlight Grass is sold at a magic shop. It’s about a five-minute walk from here.”

“A magic shop…”

Taichi had been focused on markets and hadn’t noticed any shops selling magical items or even known they existed.

(But it makes sense… this is a fantasy world.)

It’s good he doesn’t have to go gather it at midnight. If he did, he’d be worried about the cost.

“By the way, what do you use Moonlight Grass for? I heard it’s used for making potions…”

“I’m planning to make a treat for the monsters.”

“Oh, Taichi-san, you have cooking skills. It’s nice to see you’re preparing something special for them…”

Shalti looks somewhat envious of Luke.

(Is it really that expensive…?)

Feeling a bit anxious, Taichi decides to check it out himself.

“I’ll head to the magic shop for now.”

“Yes! Have a good trip!”
