Chapter 90: Chapter 90 ⟴ Yotsuba Grows a Brain
"Welcome... Eh? Rizu Ogata?"
At the entrance of the luxury apartment.
Ichika opened the door expecting Daiki, but found second-year student Rizu standing behind him.
"I'm so sorry! I ran into Daiki-kun yesterday while delivering takeout and asked if I could join the tutoring sessions. Please forgive my presumption, Nakano-san." Rizu bowed deeply, fidgeting nervously.
Though she knew the quintuplets were wealthy, the apartment's luxury overwhelmed her.
Being in such a high-end place for the first time made her anxious, and she worried the Nakano quintuplets wouldn't welcome her presence.
"It's fine! Come on in." After a brief pause, Ichika put on a gentle smile.
She led Daiki and Rizu toward the elevator on the first floor.
"I'm really sorry!" Rizu apologized again after a few steps.
"Don't be nervous — you're not the only one joining the tutoring sessions." At this topic, Ichika's cheek twitched slightly.
A shameless woman had shown up at dawn, and the quintuplets couldn't say a word about it.
Haruno represented the Yukinoshita family's investment in the Nakano Hospital, with her talk of potential and investment value. The Yukinoshitas hadn't fought for control — they'd simply provided money.
The quintuplets had to suppress their anger. All that talk of investment prospects was mere pretense. The Yukinoshita family's investment served only to curry favor with Daiki.
Next to Haruno's shamelessness, Rizu's presence seemed trivial.
"Daiki-kun, please teach us properly! My passing this year depends entirely on you." Ichika moved closer, clasping her hands in a pleading gesture.
When Rizu wasn't looking, she parted her lips slightly.
"I'll teach properly."
Ichika smiled happily at his promise.
When they reached the Nakanos' floor, the three stepped out of the elevator.
Opening the apartment door revealed a room filled with beautiful girls.
"Daiki-kun!" Miku, who had been waiting eagerly, rushed over — staking her claim before the uninvited guest.
Yukino's eyes dimmed as she held her teacup.
She was supposed to be closest to Daiki, yet here she sat in silence, unable to show any sign, uncertain if he held real feelings for her.
Lost in thought, she failed to notice Haruno's smirk. Unlike her brooding sister, Haruno was quite cheerful.
The bizarre scene before her was simply too amusing. That stubborn girl, Miku, thought keeping the cat outside would maintain order, unaware that the mice were already scurrying about inside.
Miku's possessive display seemed weak to Haruno. If she weren't concerned about Daiki's reaction, she would have shown them all how to properly stake a claim.
Nino watched her boyfriend with puffed cheeks and resentful eyes, wondering when she could finally be honest with Miku and the others.
Itsuki sensed the strange tension in the air.
Meanwhile, Yotsuba stood waiting, wooden stick in hand.
Despite her energy, she struggled with academics. Like her sisters, she had one strong subject — Japanese literature — but performed poorly in everything else.
She showed the least progress among her sisters. Even with group study sessions, she remained most likely to fail.
This was why she eagerly anticipated Daiki's Hundred Teaching ability.
"Don't just stand there, sit down." Ichika broke the tense atmosphere, having Miku guide Daiki to his seat.
The spacious living room was filled with textbooks of various subjects. Haruno and Yukino examined the comprehensive tutoring plan.
Without Daiki's Hundred Teaching, would they all face repeating the year?
As top students themselves, neither Haruno nor Yukino could truly grasp the struggles of poor performers.
Daiki surveyed the subject books and drew a deep breath.
"Daiki-kun, your weapon! Please discipline me thoroughly!" Yotsuba knelt before him, presenting the wooden stick.
Miku tilted her head, barely recognizing her foolish sister.
"Let's start with Japanese literature."
This was Yotsuba's strongest subject and the easiest to pass. It also aligned with Rizu's needs, as she struggled most with humanities.
Starting here made the most sense for everyone.
"Take out your Japanese literature books. I'll begin with a basic explanation, then we'll practice with some questions Mei printed." Daiki retrieved the textbook and instructed them to listen carefully.
"Daiki-kun, wouldn't covering the entire book take too long? Perhaps we should start with tests to find their weak areas?" Haruno questioned his approach to teaching the whole book.
Besides, for a humanities subject like Japanese literature, simply explaining concepts wouldn't be effective, right?
She had clearly underestimated the power of Hundred Teaching.
"They're all weak points, so we'll cover everything." He opened the book and began explaining Japanese literature.
"..."
Yotsuba was already yawning at his first sentence.
This was her best subject — one could hardly imagine her performance in other subjects.
Smack!
The wooden stick struck her arm sharply. With the strike, knowledge and understanding flowed from his mind to hers.
"Ow..." The stinging pain jolted Yotsuba awake, "Sorry, Daiki-kun, I'll be serious!"
"Then explain what the first sentence means."
Staring at the first sentence, Yotsuba's expression gradually turned vacant as she scratched her head in confusion.
Finally, she looked up at him with a sheepish grin.
Smack!
"Don't just grin stupidly — keep thinking!" Daiki showed no mercy with another strike of the stick.
This unusual teaching method left Yukino and Haruno speechless.
Miku and the other struggling students shrank back, trembling in fear.
"Ah, I... I think I got it..." The sharp pain made Yotsuba's head tingle as strange knowledge suddenly materialized in her mind.
In that moment, she felt her brain actually expanding.
"I understand! This sentence means..."
Her fluid explanation left everyone wide-eyed.
No way!
Yotsuba really was developing intelligence. Just two strikes with the stick and she'd had an epiphany?
From her seat on the sofa, Haruno rubbed her chin thoughtfully.
Was this how Nino had become a Sorcerer too? Though it seemed straightforward enough, those strikes must hurt.
Perhaps she could ask Daiki to strike somewhere other than the arm?
'Err...' Haruno's cheeks flushed pink as she gazed at him with misty, expectant eyes.
"I... I really did it!" Yotsuba stared at the Japanese literature book in disbelief.
She understood the first sentence with remarkable clarity, and glimpses of understanding extended to the rest of the text — something that would have been impossible before.
"Sit down and continue."
Daiki occasionally questioned Miku and the others.
As the stick fell repeatedly, they experienced true knowledge firsthand.
Yukino fell silent — Sorcery truly defied scientific explanation.
What principles governed the Hundred Teaching ability? How could strikes from a stick lead to instant enlightenment? And since this was a Sorcerer's ability, could it perhaps teach Sorcery itself?
Yukino's analytical mind immediately turned to questions of Sorcerer righteousness...
