Chapter 25: Let's Dance Part 1
It was time for the dance. Ryder managed to secure a suit for the dance with some assistance from Yang. He's never worn a suit before, so it was awkward at first but he's getting used to it. As Ryder approaches the Ballroom in Beacon Academy, he takes notice of a certain Rose wobbling in an unbalanced fashion as she walks towards the ballroom. Ryder gained a look of amusement as he realized that Ruby never wore heels before. He walks over to her to give her a hand. As Ruby wobbled to the entrance, she nearly tripped and fell but Ryder caught her.
"Not use to heels huh?" Ryder asks with a smile.
"No. Not at all. I hate these things. I wish I could wear my boots. Those are easier to walk in." Ruby complained.
"While I'm not one for fancy clothes, a dance isn't a place for boots unfortunately." Ryder said. "You'd stand out like a sore thumb."
"Maybe I want to." Ruby said.
"Ruby." Ryder said in a scolding tone.
"I'm just not a fan of these stupid shoes." Ruby said.
"Why don't we head inside." Ryder said. "Need help?"
"I think i got it." Ruby said.
The two walk to the front door at Ruby's pace. They eventually reach the door and get inside the ballroom. Yang was at the front podium waiting for new quests to arrive at the dance. When she sees Ruby and Ryder she flips out, mostly because of Ruby's outfit.
"Ooooh, you two look amazing!" Yang comments.
"Thanks. Was worried i wouldn't pull off a suit." Ryder said.
"You pull it off like a pro." Yang comments once more.
Ruby groans in distress.
"Can we have a serious talk about how Weiss fights in these?" Ruby asks.
"That's.... actually, a good question." Ryder mumbles.
Ruby tried to maintain her balance as she walks to the podium where Yang is. Ryder was following her ready to catch her if needed. Seeing Ruby like this brings amusement to Yang. Ruby reaches the podium and puts her hands on it to stabilize herself while Yang had a good chuckle.
"Please don't laugh." Ruby begged.
"Alright, alright. I'm sorry." Yang apologized.
Shortly after Yang said that Blake and Sun enter the Ballroom. Ryder looked at Yang who just smiles seeing Blake here. Ryder smiled slightly and turned his gaze to Blake.
"Glad you could make it." Ryder said.
"It took some convincing, but I decided to come to the dance." Blake said.
"That's good. Ruby here was worried that you wouldn't make it." Ryder said.
"I was almost not going to go if you weren't." Ruby said.
"Well, now she's here. Let's get this dance started!" Yang said.
Everyone moves into the ballroom before Yang and Blake have a dance together. Everyone just watched them as other people danced around. Ryder got a good look at the fully decorated Ballroom. Streamers were hung through glass chandeliers with pink and blue balloons everywhere. Students wore either dark suits or bright dresses. After Yang and Blake finish dancing, Sun comes up to take Blake's second dance. After this, Yang walks over to Ryder, Ruby, and Weiss who were watching from a far.
"I told you she would come." Yang said.
"Mission accomplished." Weiss comments.
"Soooo, what do we do now?" Ruby asks.
"Just have fun!" Yang said before he walks away to have fun.
Weiss walks off in the opposite direction leaving Ryder and Ruby alone.
"Does that mean i can change out of these stupid things and into my hood now?" Ruby asks.
Ryder chuckles a little before he spots someone familiar in a corner of the room.
"I'll leave you to it, Ruby." Ryder said before walking off.
Ryder walked up to the person and smiled a little.
"Thought you weren't one for parties?" Ryder asks.
Kairos scoffs. Kairos was in a black suit with a purple bow tie. He stops leaning on the wall and turns his body to face Ryder.
"Glynda said it would be best to attend instead of focusing on training. Though, i see this as a waste of time." Kairos said with full honesty.
"I wasn't one for parties myself. But I was convinced to come to it." Ryder said.
"By whom?" Kairos asks.
"Yang and Ruby. Said it could help break my anti-social shell." Ryder said.
"You're anti-social?" Kairos asks with a raised eyebrow.
"Yeah, I am or well was. I still am slightly." Ryder said.
"How has your training come?" Kairos asks.
Ryder was about to say something but decided he shouldn't mention he figured out he can fly. Well, he can't. He needs to learn how to, but he wants to keep it a secret since he doesn't understand it and he doubts the others will understand it either.
"It's... been moving along. Currently focusing on increasing the amount of power i can amplify." Ryder said. "Though, I'm still looking for weaknesses."
"That wasn't your first priority?" Kairos asks.
"Unfortunately, no. Without a training partner finding stuff like that is difficult." Ryder said.
Kairos notices the doors to the ballroom open and sees who came in. He narrowed his eyes suspiciously, making Ryder turn to the door. He sees Mercury and Emerald walking through the door. Yang was at the podium and greeted them.
"What's wrong?" Ryder asks.
"I don't trust them." Kairos said.
"Why?" Ryder asks.
"They acted weirdly during your duel with Mercury, and their team leader. There's just something about them that makes me suspicious. I think my Semblance might be acting up though." Kairos said.
"Acting up how?" Ryder asks.
"Umbrakinesis does a lot of things for me. But lately, I've been getting a bad feeling whenever those two are around. I especially get bad vibes about their leader." Kairos said.
Ryder looked at Emerald and Mercury once more.
