American Comics: The Girl Next Door is Spider-Gwen

Chapter 18: Delivering Medicinal Food! The Charm of Oriental Creations!

Ding-dong~

The doorbell of Gwen's house rang as Ye Li waited with a pot of medicinal food in hand.

The door quickly opened, and Gwen's mother, Jenny, peeked out. "Oh, Li, come in quickly. No reporters came looking for you, right?"

Ye Li walked in. "Not yet, but it's only a matter of time. Jessica really knows how to cause trouble for me. I'm probably going to have to move back to Sunnyvale; this place can't accommodate security guards."

"It seems you've seen the news too. That girl Jessica always manages to surprise people."

Jenny smiled and poured him a hot drink. "George is already on-site handling the situation. He'll warn the reporters not to bother you."

Ye Li was noncommittal—George's position as NYPD commissioner couldn't keep everyone away. "Where's Gwen? I've made her some special Oriental medicinal food. It's good for beauty, skin nourishment, and overall health."

He didn't say everything—the primary purpose of the medicinal food was to replenish blood and heal scars.

"Beauty and skin nourishment?" Jenny became interested. "What a magical Oriental creation! Gwen is upstairs in her room. Take it to her—she'll definitely be happy."

"Let me serve you a bowl first."

"Oh~ how could I accept? This is for Gwen."

"I'm sure she wouldn't mind."

The conversation downstairs wasn't quiet. Gwen, upstairs, naturally heard everything and couldn't help feeling a bit annoyed. Her mom was too easily won over—selling her out by casually letting a guy into her room!

It wasn't that Gwen was wary of Ye Li. In fact, she had privately given him a key to her room.

It was just that she was secretly bandaging a wound on her forearm. Thanks to her unique physiology, the wound had almost closed, but she still needed to wrap it up. If her family noticed any blood, it would be over.

After winning over Jenny, Ye Li arrived outside Gwen's door and found it locked. He knocked. "Gwen, can I come in? I brought you something to eat."

"Li, come in. Do you have your key?"

"Okay, Gwen. I'm coming in."

Ye Li rummaged through his pocket for the key and unlocked the door with ease.

Gwen was sitting obediently on the bed, wearing an adorable long-sleeve pajama set with a chibi spider pattern.

Ye Li jokingly exclaimed, "Oh, my little sweetheart, were you waiting for me to bless you with my presence?"

Gwen played along, throwing him a flirtatious look. "Come here already~ you rascal (in Chinese)."

"Haha~" Both of them laughed.

Ye Li placed the medicinal food on Gwen's desk and handed her a package. "Gwen, where did you learn such strange Chinese phrases?"

"Is it strange~?" Gwen asked, smiling as she took the package. "What is this?"

Ye Li spread his hands. "Jessica said it's the sanitary napkins you asked her to bring."

"Uh…" (〃=〃) Gwen's face turned red with embarrassment.

She did recall asking Jessica to bring her some bandages and anti-inflammatory medicine… but what kind of ridiculous excuse was this?

Gwen quickly stashed the package behind her and looked at the medicinal food on the desk, changing the subject. "So, what did you bring me~?"

As she spoke, she moved forward and opened the lid. "I don't really understand it, but it looks very hearty."

Ye Li explained its ingredients and purpose.

Gwen happily started eating.

Hmm, Gwen was much more cooperative—not picky like Jessica.

Feeling gratified, Ye Li started chatting with her. A lot had happened today, so there were plenty of topics to discuss.

Gwen responded while eating.

"I saw the news. Aside from Jessica's situation, I didn't expect the supervillain Green Goblin to have some connection to us. To think it's Harry's father, Norman Osborn—it's unbelievable. I imagine Harry must be going through a tough time right now."

Ye Li wasn't particularly concerned about this, given that Norman Osborn had dared to target Gwen.

"He'll handle it. I'm more worried about whether Jessica will be hounded by reporters and the authorities in the future. She's too careless. I'm already considering whether to move back to the estate and hire more security to keep the flies away."

It wasn't Ye Li overthinking things.

This wasn't the future era where superhumans were everywhere. The exposure of a superhero—even a rookie—would attract significant attention.

Unless an even more prominent superhero was revealed, people wouldn't forget about Jessica anytime soon.

Ye Li thought of someone: "Iron Man" Tony Stark, who would publicly reveal his own identity.

Who knows if he had already gone on his "tour" of the Middle East and received a "warm welcome" from the terrorists.

"Li…" Gwen, hearing him talk about moving back, said reluctantly, "I'll miss you."

"Gwen, I'll miss you too. That's why I'm just considering it."

"Actually, my dad has been thinking about moving to the affluent district recently too."

"Why don't you all move in with me? My house is pretty big."

"My dad wouldn't live in someone else's house, but moving near you shouldn't be a problem. I'll mention it to him another day~"

Time flew by.

A young man and woman, alone together in one room.

As they talked, they naturally ended up leaning closer to each other.
