Chapter 7: Managed to survive
*********************************************************
[Ding.]
[Congratulations to the host for successfully creating Banppee Wolf poison.]
[Fame: +9]
[Skills: +7]
[New skill awarded: Sixty-seven Needle: This skill increases the speed of the host's sewing skill as well as the precision.]
[Please keep working hard.]
'Sweet,' Damien grinned as he immediately activated the latest that he had been rewarded. Just as Dan said to him, this new skill allowed him to sew the wound of his patient in a few minutes and with great precision.
"Is he really sewing a person like a piece of cloth?" Robin questioned in disbelief.
The tribe leader also frowned upon seeing Damien sew Lax's wound but he stayed quiet as he noticed that the bleeding of the wound had stopped.
Once the wound was sewn close, Damien neatly removed the needle from Lax's skin.
Throughout the process, Lax did not scream or make a fuss which made the entire process much easier.
It was a good thing that the beastmen were more powerful than humans.
However, that did not mean that Damien was going to give up. Until he could not get his hands on modern anaesthesia, he would look for a way to make a substitute for it.
"Honey! Honey! Do you feel alright?" Cora asked her husband who was lying on the ground.
Though Lax did not look as pale as before, Cora did not dare to jump the gun. What if she believed that her husband had gotten better only for him to leave her alone in the end?
After all, Banppee Wolf poison was something that even healers could not treat!
Cora did not trust Damien's concoction which was made from herbs that had light poison inside of them.
"C…Cora?" Lax's eyes slowly regained their focus, earlier he had lost all of his vision bit by bit and could not see anything or anyone anymore.
But now he could see his wife's face as well as the dark sky over his head.
"Lax, you can see me?" Cora was so surprised that her eyes turned red and she couldn't help but shed tears.
Banppee Wolf poison ate away the senses of those who were infected by it. First, they lost their mobility followed by their vision and slowly all of the senses were destroyed before the infected person died.
Since her husband regained his vision doesn't this mean that he was healed!?
"I can see..you," Lax nodded and upon hearing his response Cora was overjoyed. She reached out and hugged her husband tightly. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she cried, "All hail the beast, God!"
Damien was amused by her prayers, the one who saved her husband was him but she was thanking the Beast God.
"Don't worry too much," he said to the woman. Damien pushed himself off the ground and said to her, "The treatment went smoothly, as long as your husband takes care of himself, he would be fine."
"Thank you, thank you very much!" Cora lowered her head and thanked Damien again and again.
"There is no need to thank me. I am a doctor, saving as many lives as possible is my duty," Damien told the woman as he turned to look at the rest of the tribe and said to them, "Who wants to go next?"
The tribe members were stunned at first but when they saw that Damien really succeeded in saving Lax——-
"My father! Save my father!"
"Save my son! He is only sixteen!"
"Alright," Damien smiled at the beastmen who were making a ruckus and said to them, "Calm down, I will do my best to save each one of you."
Robin watched the sight in front of him and his fists unconsciously tightened. This was his first time seeing a healer treating hyena beastmen so politely and kindly.
No, this man was not one of those haughty healers. He was a doctor.
Fortunately, this man did not listen to his rude words just now or else ——
Robin's cheeks heated up due to embarrassment before he turned on his feet and walked away.
Tribe Leader Mae looked at Robin's back and sighed. "It seems like he is still not willing to accept that this man is truly here to help us."
"On the contrary, I think he has accepted the truth," Jalle shook his head and remarked. "If my understanding of Robin is correct, he is just embarrassed."
Robin's departure had little to no effect on Damien who continued treating patients. Of course, he could not save everyone as some patients lost too much blood and their wounds were too severe.
However, no one blamed Damien. These beastmen were already prepared to bury their fifty tribe members tonight. Compared to that, burying two tribe members was much better.
But for Damien who couldn't save these two beastmen, it was a huge blow to his self-esteem.
'I thought that I had nothing more to learn but it seems like I still have a lot of things to learn,' he clenched his fists while staring at the beastmen who were covering the two beastmen who lost their lives to Banppee Wolves with shrouds.
If he was fast enough, then these two could have been saved.
Leader Mae held his hands together as if he were praying while standing next to the two beastmen who died.
Damien did not understand a word that Leader Mae spoke while praying for the departed souls.
However, he waited until Leader Mae was done praying and was about to take his leave when ——
"Mister," Leader Mae hobbled over to where Damien was standing and said to him, "Thank you for saving the members of our tribe. If you hadn't shown us kindness then we would have suffered a big loss."
"I just did what I could," Damien was neither too arrogant nor servile as he said, "Since I could save the lives of these people, it would have been cruel on my part to ignore them when they needed help."
Leader Mae smiled at Damien's words. This young man seemed to be kind and generous, he was different from the healers who only served the rich and the powerful.
"No matter what, you still helped our tribe," he turned to look at the small girl who was standing behind him and said to Damien, "This is a small gift from our tribe, please don't refuse it."
As he spoke the girl stepped forward with the wooden tray in her hands and on top of the tray was——
