Chapter 159: Daylight kidnapping
"Yes, that's right." The beast-man replied with a nod. His eyes were filled with awe as he stated, "Not only Lord Jami but even the soldiers who were cut, stabbed, and even those whose fingers were hanging by the tendons, he saved them all."
"It was such a miraculous sight that if I hadn't been watching it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed that such a thing was possible. It was similar to watching the God of healing work himself."
Julian clenched his fingers upon hearing the words of the beastmen. It seemed like Damien was indeed better than he imagined. He could actually connect fingers that were almost cut off? Wasn't this simply a miracle?
'Maybe this man can save his brother,' Julian thought.
Three days later,
"How are you feeling?" Damien asked the soldier on whom he had tested the penicillin spell. He had done everything accordingly, from collecting the blue mould to removing the fat-soluble substances and then absorbing impurities.
However, no one could guarantee that he was going to succeed at the first trial.
"I feel alright?" The soldier moves his arm that was stabbed by the porcupine needle. "Thank you very much, my lord."
"There is no need to thank me," Damien stated. "Just keep an eye on your condition for the next few days. If you feel like there is something wrong, then you should come to look for me straight away. There is no need for you to hesitate, alright?"
"You are really kind, my lord," said the soldier with an emotional voice.
"Oh no," Damien clapped his hand on the shoulder of the man as he shook his head, "I am not at all kind. If anything, I should be the one to thank you. You all actually allowed me to test my new spell on you guys."
The soldier sheepishly smiled at him before taking his leave.
Once the soldier left, Damien sat on the chair inside the shack and started reading the stack of textbooks that he had collected from the library. Though being a doctor was his primary goal, he couldn't fall back on getting stronger.
Only when he was powerful enough to protect himself could he achieve his primary goal.
He wanted to find a way to connect with the Ironclaw Eagle much better than he was at the moment. Damien knew that their strength came from the infusion of the energy from the dragon scale as well as the magical resources. While the latter half was easy to do, as there were many magical resources available in the market as well as the guild hall. The Dragon scale was a problem.
Thus, Damien knew that he could only rely on himself and train harder. After all, as long as he trained harder, Claw and his strength would sooner or later be on par with each other.
Claw had learnt how to instinctively share his energy and mana with Damien, which allowed them to create the misty wall after they absorbed the water stone. Since that was the case, all Damien needed to do was to find more such resources.
He flipped the page of the book when someone knocked on the door and he raised his head to see Wistoria standing on the threshold. Discover hidden tales at M V L
"Are you busy?" she asked.
"No, come on in," Damien said to her as he set the textbook aside.
Wistoria walked inside the small shack that had made his clinic and behind her was Xavier, who set down the bucket that held something wriggly inside of it.
"I brought your eagle a little something," Wistoria said to him when he continued to stare at the white worms that looked like silkworms except they had a large mouth instead of having eyes or anything else. "These are called earth-digging worms. They are similar to earthworms, but they are a bit dangerous as they can also dig into the flesh of a person if they are not careful, as you can see."
Claw raised his head and looked in the direction of the bucket. He flew to the other side of the room and landed on Xavier's shoulder such that he could peer inside the bucket.
"I heard from someone that they are exceptionally nourishing for bird beasts like Claw."
Xavier set down the bucket and Claw immediately attacked.
"Easy there, tiger," Damien said to the ironclaw eagle. "There is no need for you to splatter blood all over the floor. This is where I treat the patients; please pay attention to the sanitisation."
In response to his words, the eagle rolled his eyes and then caught hold of the bucket and flew outside the shack.
"What are you doing now?" Wistoria asked as she looked at the book that Damien was holding in his hands.
"Nothing, just reading about the resources that could help me in controlling the bond that I share with the iron claw eagle better," replied Damien. "Though the two of us are fairly connected, I can only draw a limited amount of mana from him. For now the water stones are working just fine but it will be better not to put all the eggs in the same basket."
Wistoria nodded and the two of them sank into silence before Xavier raised his head and looked at Wistoria, who sighed and asked Damien, "How are you able to use the mana stones? Xavier had tried to gauge the energy out of these stones but he could not break through it properly. Either he will break the entire thing in one go or crumble it due to the low amount of mana."
"That's easy," Damien said. "Of course it will not be easy for you, as what I did was to stand in the tub full of water and use the very resource as a link. Maybe you can use the heat of flames to channel the energy?"
"Thank goodness you didn't ask me to stand in a sea of fire," Xavier heaved a sigh of relief. When he heard Damien say that he stood in the water tub to break through the mana stone, he thought that the man was going to ask him to do the same.
