Chapter 7: The Prophet
Enoch moved about the house rather strategically as Fitz followed him intimidatingly, which was very out of sorts.
"You don't believe all of this do you?" Lance asked as Patten and Mick glanced over the many different pictures strewn across the walls.
"I'm not really sure what I believe at the moment," Patten sighed.
"Looks like this is all just kids doodles," Lance groaned.
"But look at the things around them," Mick acknowledged, pointing at one a child's rendition showing the Avengers and Ultron battling on a floating island that had been Sokovia.
"That is just a coincidence," Lance scoffed. "Media ran wild with the Sokovia incident."
"Only SHIELD knew about the floating island," Patten said as Fitz called for them.
"Yeah, all those people involved and you think only SHIELD knew about that?" Lance muttered as they rejoined in the kitchen.
"The Seer should be in the park across the street. I typically meet her on Wednesday's to see if the prophecy has changed," Enoch said as Fitz seemed quite annoyed at how long it took Enoch to be ready.
"So this Seer sketches out these prophecies?" Mick asked as he glanced at a picture of two figures in army looking attire standing in the kitchen, one male and one female.
"Yes," Enoch stated.
"And this person would know when or if the future changes?" Patten asked as Lance shook his head and covered his face in annoyance.
"Yes," Enoch replied once more.
"Great, then let's go see her and find out how we get to our friends back," Fitz demanded as he pointed the pistol at Enoch once more.
"Follow me," Enoch seemed unfazed, which only showed off his robotic emotionless nature.
Mick watched Enoch carefully, after how things went with Aida, he wasn't very willing to ever trust another robot. Aida also seemed quite nice the few times he met her, human like even, so there was no way Mick was about to let his guard down this time. At least this time, Fitz wasn't behind the creation. Mick struggled not being upset with Fitz due to Aida and his assistance with perfecting her body, because he had no way of knowing what Holden Radcliffe had planned for her. It was also a very sore spot in the wake of things. The less they spoke of Aida and the Framework while they were in custody, the better.
They walked across the empty street into the rather spacious park. There was a large track with people jogging around, kids and parents by the swings and various other climbable toys. Off to the side a woman with dark hair sat on a bench with a blonde little girl drawing on the sidewalk. The woman looked up with a slightly concerned look seeing Enoch accompanied by Mick and the others.
"Having a party today are we Enoch?" she seemed quite skeptical.
"We're with SHIELD," Patten said as the woman nodded. "I'm Agent Patten Brent."
"Lance Hunter," Lance nodded with a slight grin.
"I'm Fitz," he said as he eased around the bench looking at the drawings. "I believe we've met before."
"Mick," he said as the girl turned and looked at him nervously as he knelt down beside the woman. "We're friends with Daisy and Coulson."
"I'm Polly Hinton, and this is my daughter, Robin," she said as Mick glanced at Fitz curiously.
"Hinton? Like the Deathseer guy?" Mick asked as both Polly and Fitz nodded.
"Charles was a good man before he went through Terrigenisis," Polly said as Mick nodded. "Despite trying to protect Robin, she ended up going through it herself. Thankfully Enoch found us and explained what was going on, greatly helping me understand how to communicate with my daughter."
"Yeah, I'm very grateful for what Charles did for Daisy. I owe him a lot, so if there's anything you ever need," Mick said as Robin continued sketching.
"Robin, we really miss our friends, and we want to see them," Fitz started. "How can we get to them?" The girl looked unfazed by the question, almost as if she were ignoring him.
"She's not very talkative is she?" Patten asked as Polly shook her head.
"Not since Terrigenesis. It was so hard on her, especially for such a young age," Polly sighed.
"Are all of these prophecies?" Patten asked, pointing at the small folder seemingly filled to the brim with papers.
"Yes," Polly sighed. "She's been very active lately."
"Maybe that's a good thing," Mick said with a haphazard smile, then turned back to see the drawing of a man with a spider on his chest fighting against a man with black all around him. "Is that supposed to be me?"
Robin nodded, then grimaced as Fitz took in a deep breath, trying hard to be patient. "Please tell us how to get to our friends."
"You can't," Robin said, then turned around looking toward the road. "They're here for us."
"That's a lot of soldiers," Lance muttered.
"Way too many for us to fight out way out," Patten groaned.
"Then I'll web them and you guys escape," Mick stood up popping his wrists.
"Wait," Enoch stated as he pulled out several pairs of earplugs, handing them out to everyone. "Hurry and put these in," he urged.
"What are they for?" Mick asked cautiously.
"They'll buy us time," Enoch stated as Mick shrugged.
"Good enough for me," Lance chuckled.
Enoch then pulled out a small pen-like device, then glanced around to be sure everyone had placed their plugs in. "You're all coming with us!" Lieutenant Lucas barked as Lieutenant Evans followed behind with a platoon of armed soldiers.
With a click, everyone without the earplugs went rigid. Runners froze mid-stride, kids frozen in midair as they jumped off the swings, people on the slides motionless. The approaching soldiers were like a wax army before them. Enoch the pulled the plugs from his ears, then everyone followed.
"What the heck was that?" Lance asked as Fitz seemed slightly bitter.
"That's what made that buzzing sound, right?" Mick asked, thinking back to that night.
"Precisely," Enoch replied. "Now we must hurry, they will only be frozen for thirty minutes."
"Where do you plan to go so they can't follow us?" Fitz asked skeptically as they made their way toward the road.
"I'm taking you all where I sent your friends," Enoch said reaching for the door to the RV.
"I thought you said that was impossible," Fitz grunted.
"I said where, not when Mr. Fitz," Enoch stated as he climbed into the RV.
"Shotgun?" Lance seemed to be more offering than demanding.
"I would suggest you rest," Enoch said as Mick stared at him. "This will be quite a long drive."
"How long are we talking?" Lance smirked.
"Roughly eleven hours, not calculating traffic or poor driving conditions," Enoch said as Lance seemed surprised.
"Where are we going?" Mick asked as Enoch turned toward him.
"Fair Haven, New York," he replied.
"Oh boy," Patten frowned. "At least we'll have a couple friends close by."
"Really? Like who?" Mick seemed surprised.
"Davis is stationed there," Patten said, though he seemed slightly annoyed. "Jerren is there too."
